I am part of a Halo clan here on Halo PC. Recently, another clan, a clan that we got along with quite well, began to ban our members. That is not the illegal part, but I'm getting there. Eventually, they completely cut off communication with us. Now, here is the illegal part.

They are using a program, and I do not know all of the details, but it raises the PING rate in the game by about five fold or so. Mainly, it makes the game so that it gets so laggy and jerky, that eventually it overloads the server, and shuts it down.

We have found out that this is ILLEGAL according to Bungie, and I was wondering how we can report this? They have done this more than once to us, and we are getting sick of it. Thank you.

You know that's not what I mean. This server that we play on is owned by us, since we own our own clan and stuff. We have a server computer and everything, so we kinda like to use our own stuff. I need some serious answers here, thank you.

Um...im pretty sure he was serious.

See, you didnt explain yourself quite as well. You shouldve mentioned that it was your own server.

Anyways, try to contact bungie about it. I would ask a moderator about it, than asking around the forums about something like this...

Besides, cant you ban THEM?

Okay, ya got me. You're right in saying that I didn't explain it well. =P.

First, I tried to contact a Mod, but with no response.

Second, they don't even have to be IN our game to hack us. That's what they were doing. They weren't even playing on our Server.

errrr that sucks, so this was another clan that was once "friendly" to u guys, and now they're hacking your server? What caused them to act ike jerks all of a sudden? I'm trying to pry, but if the mods can't help u then maybe u guys can resolve this with words, and other crap like that.

nweasel - you should run a google search to see if anyone has had these kind of problems in the past. If nothing else, you should be able to find details on the type of program they are using. This will take some diligent searching, but it will be worth it.

If you can't find out how to beat it, then make sure you get the program yourself. The policy of Mutually Assured Destruction kept the US and the USSR from a 'hot' war for 50 years, maybe it'll help you. (MAD basically means fight fire with fire).

This sounds like a hack more than anything else. It's going to take some ingenuity to shut it down. Buckle down and study all the stuff available on it on the net. Then go kick ass - for your clan and for the rest of who have some sense of integrity when it comes to online gaming. Give 'em Hell.

Btw, it usually takes a few hours, even days for the mods to respond.

After all, they are human. Just like you, they may log on occasionally and find 27 unread PMs, or they may find 0 unread.

Oh, and some mods/overlords have email addresses in their Profile. Just click on their name, brings up a profile screen. Achronos, for ex, has his email displayed.

Other than that, i cant help you anymore...if they arent even in the game to hack into it...well...im at a loss for words at their behaviour.

How do you know its them then? If you were hacked you might have to completly wipe the server and start again. That would be the last thing you do though.

Time to answer some questions... first, we have been trying to resolve this peacefully, believe me. It doesn't work. They're the most stubborn jackasses I've met. Second, we have a security program, which found out their attacking computers' IP addresses, which were from where their Clan lives, because we know where they live in real life.

But, to answer aM Inspire, you have a good point there, and I'm definately going to pass that on to my Clan mates. Thank you!

If anyone else has anymore ideas/suggestions/answers, please post it here. Thank you.

.... okay having done some things that need no mentioning but are somewhat relelbant. This may be less complicated than you all are making them out to be.

one word, Rcon. people can aquire remote control of a server with a simple password... and their is a default password to every dedicated server... and sadly that default password is the same. So use the command sv_rcon_password and DO NOT enter a password to completely disable the Remote control. or if some clanmates are admins to your server, change it and tell them... but be cautious of who you tell, some of your admins may be suffering from diarrhea of the mouth.

secondly, your dedicated server keeps track of banned IP's using the command sv_banlist . so use the sv_unban command after PRIVATELY asking your clanmates what their IP is and unban their IP's.

With this done I'd suggest changing your external IP. If you don't know how to do this google it. (keep in mind that their is a difference between masking and changing your IP, masking it will ensure that no one else can join your server... not even you. Another thing I'd suggest is chaning the server name. Try a name that doesn't include your clan name or clan tag yet you and your clan know it's yours.

Another thing to keep in mind. Just cause it was in their area doesn't mean it was them... it might just be unfortunate timing that they decided to stop talking to your clan. Find out for sure before laying blame. Also, IP queue trackers and loggers aren't exactly reliable as they don't bypass IP masks or locally routed IP's, not to mention if you have any p2p software an IP tracker is about as usefull as spoiled milk.

Hope I helped

If they are using a program to crash the server, will banning them help? As far as I know it does connect before the message says you are banned.

Heyyo,

Ok, what you need to do is just get a firewall on your server's comp, n' deny acess from their IPs, and hope they're not smart enough to proxy. If they do, then they must really be tards...

Lol, the funny thing is HaloPC v1.06 patch was geared to fixing only this problem, people being able to overload servers n' shut them down.. man.. HaloPC v1.06 patch does no good at all eh? oh, if you're running v1.05, then try upgrading to v1.06.. otherwise bungie made a useless patch.

all things i say here are merely thought and guesses, i don't know if any of my advice would actually work

my advice, don't be friends with the clan anymore.

also, If u can change your ip address, they might not be able to use the "program" to "hack" your server. Even changing the port of ur server might help do something, which can be done by using the command line paramater

"-port x"
(x is the port that the server is hosted on, ex. "-port 2302")

i also wonder if you can just use a firewall to block the hacker from connecting to the server, or the computer at all.
