Details on the DirectX problem can be found here.
As for game variants, an excellent one I have is called Alien Warfare (and Team Alien Warfare).
Game Options: Slayer* Death Bonus: Yes* Kill in Order: No* Kill Penalty: No* Kills to Win: 15* Team Play: No* Time Limit: None
Player Options* Number of Lives: Infinite* Maximum Health: 150%* Shields: Yes* Respawn Time: 5 Seconds* Respawn Time Growth: None* Odd Man Out: No* Invisible Players: No* Suicide Penalty: None
Item Options* Infinite Grenades: No* Weapon Set: Covenant* Starting Equipment: Custom
Vehicle Options* Vehicle Respawn Time: 2 Minutes* Vehicle Set: Custom* Warthog: None* Ghost: 4* Scorpion: None* Rocket Warthog: None* Banshee: 4* Gun Turret: 4
Indicator Options* Objectives Indicator: None* Other Players on Radar: All* Friend Indicators on Screen: Yes
Teamplay Options* Friendly Fire: Shield Only* Friendly Fire Penalty: 5 Seconds* Auto Team Balance: No
In Team Alien Warfare, simply set Kills to Win to 25 and Team Play to Yes (obviously). Also, make sure that under Vehicle Options, settings for Side: Red and Side: Blue are the same. This is a very fun game that utilizes the lesser appreciated weapons in Halo, which happen to be quite effective in reality. If you can take out that annoying Fuel Rod wielder, you'll find it's not very hard to adapt to at all. Feel free to ask what my thought process was on certain options; after all, I made many of these more like scenarios than just games with rules. I also have Shootout, Snipers, Phantom Snipers, and Karma Slayer under the Slayer game variants (as well as team equivalents). The only CTF variant I have is called Legendary CTF, but this is a true test of team effort, putting your group to a name of legend should you succeed... Manhunt and Stealth Assassin cover Oddball variants. If you're curious about these other game types, simply ask and thou shalt be enlightened.
