i don't know about the rest of you but i get excited in the pants whenever i even think about flying the pelican, especially in multiplayer... think of it hovering near the top of the sidewinder bases loading 8 of your friends on and flying to the enemy base and unleash your cargo of hell into the top sides and bottom of their base.

and on the reverse side of the coin, what if you were near warps and saw that fat bird coming slam the thing with a rocket or two and laugh triumphantly as you get a quadruple killtacular.

the point being we must have pelicans in halo 2! at all costs! vote if you agree and if you don't want them PLEASE explain why they would not be good, keep in mind you could just as easily turn them off like all the other vehicles.

Pelicans would be useless because you could get from one side of the map to another in about 5 seconds and they'd be too big and awkward to handle

-S

How come whenever anyone pictures their pelican flying around in multiplayer they never stop to think about the fact that it'll probably be shot down by a LAAG before it can approach the other team's half of the map?

People always envision the pelican, loaded with SPARTAN II's, sitting right on top of or next to the base in blood gulch, the spartan's unloading to take the flag and kill the enemy. Apparently in these people's vision of the pelican, the other team never actually shoots their own guns. All it'd take is a grenade thrown at the back of the pelican as people were getting out of it, and boom, your crack insertion team is flying higher than the pelican.

they're not so bad on larger maps. I know it would be kinda' silly in BloodGultch, but the pelican in the mod for HaloPC is actually pretty useful on Death Island (which is maybe 3-4times the size of bloodgultch). Being big and awkward would be the appropriate balance for being able to unload 6 or so Spartans all together by an enemy base.

[edit:] the pelican would be easy to hit because of its size, but if you stayed out of areas with high traffic or a lot of action going on and don't land right on top of the enemy base, then you'd be fine. You can picture yourself slaughtering the entire enemy team singlehandedly with a shotgun, but if you charge head on the whole way it just isn't going to happen. Don't say the pelican is a lousy vehicle because of bad pilots.

pelicans make gameplay unbalanced. A pelican holds..a load of people yet the map only holds 16. What is the point of flying around with 3 people in the back?
How do you know bungie are making absolutley collosol maps? Have you ever seen a FPS with maps as big as halo's before? No I thought not, there are reasons against having huge maps which you are gonna have to learn.

DUDE..... BUNGIE ALREADY STATED THAT IN HALO 2 YOU WONT FLY A PELICAN... YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO USE A TURRET MOUNTED ON THE BACK.. (AS SEEN IN THE 2003 E3 DEMO, AND THE HALO 2 STORY-BOARDS)

Here is your answer as far as the Pelican goes. Its in an update from a few weeks ago. Read Frankie's paragraph:

"I got a look at some new vehicle models today, including the Scorpion tank. Few things I'd love to tell you about that but can't. I can probably tell you about the new Pelican model however, and it's a doozy. It's fully bump-mapped, impeccably detailed and features a real 3D -blam!-pit, complete with joysticks. You can't fly it of course, but it looks so much better than first time around. My favorite feature, apart from the detail added by bump-mapping everything, is the new glass shader. When you pan around the -blam!-pit glass, it shimmers and reflects convincingly. Adding the extra depth makes it look much more like a working vehicle than in the first game. When I saw it, it was having damage applied to it, so expect to see one or two of them smashed up in Halo 2."

There is your answer. Yeah I'm kinda disapointed as well but hopefully they'll put some guns on that motha and we'll get to use 'em.

Hahah! Frankie's update got censored! I guess you can't say "-blam!-"-pit, nor shuttle -blam!-. or "-blam!- the gun" or -blam!- fighting, or thats a huge -blam!-!

The same reason people post about what they think the forerunner are when, clearly, they have no idea and neither will anybody until the game comes out. The same reason there are so many favorite weapons combo posts and "how many levels do you think Halo2 should have". Honestly, being on this board is pointless in and of it self.

But I just feel like being here talking about a pelican because it is an amusing distraction until I have to go to prom today.

Now, golden elite, I think you're missing the point entirely, but I think that may be because you're . . . err. . . not quite on the same level as some of the others on this forum, to put it nicely. Halo PC had HUGE levels for a fps. Heck, look at Planetside, that whole game is one giagantic planetwide fps match (which has been poorly done by the way). Believe it or not, it is possible to make maps bigger *gasp* than bloodgultch because it's been done plenty of times before. Like I said before, on a Death Island sized map, the pelican is still useful in the modded version. I know that the pelican would be quickly shot down on small levels, if it ran straight into a firefight or parked right on top of an enemy base. Those situations aren't the pelican's fault, it's the pilot's. Anybody can stand in one spot on a hill and shoot at passers by, get sniped and complain that the game is too unbalanced and they can't take enough damage before dying.

give arguments a thought before posting.

[edit:] wow tartarus! no blamming way! It had never occured to me that there might not be a pelican in Halo2, especially after reading the article you just quoted. Well snap me down!

The Pelican isn't flyable obviously so just stick to the Warthog with the roll cage and the extra 4 seats in the back for your transportation, that would work better anyway considering its size.

what are you still arguing about Scipio? My post wasn't about that there is a Pelican in H2. Thats a given. We all saw it in the E3 demo. However, if you actually read my post and do it carefully, you will see something in bold. Frankie clearly says, "Of couser you can't fly it" while talking about the pelican control area and joy sticks in other words, the -blam!--pit. You are one thick headed dumb -blam!-, you know that? Whats wrong with you anyways? Come back to this forum when you can actually contribute something worthy.

Well my most educated and enlightened friend, you seem to miss the point that I'm talking about halo2 multiplayer. If you think I don't believe there is going to be a pelican at all then you're the "thick headed dumb -blam!-." Now I'll tell you what's wrong with me, having person after person post the exact same thing over and over and especially someone who feels like they have to prove something about their intelligence to me by quoting an article from bungie, or in this case Frankie. Really, you think I don't read that in the first place? Wow, who the mess is Frankie? What's a pelican? can I have a cookie? You're the one without anything worthy to contribute because it's all redundant information. So tell me, what's wrong with you? why do you even bother with this when you have nothing new to bring to the table?
As for talking about the pelican in the first place, I'm just talking in hypothetical, and for all we know there could be a pelican added in multiplayer later on, perhaps as downloadable content over XBL.

Pelicans might not be as bad as some people think, hopefully in single player therell be a scripted flight where youre the gunner, and in multiplayer on those huge maps that bungie has promised, and anyway, nobdy knows that the maximum number of players is 16 yet, for all we know bungie could have a huge super server that can hold 64, and since the pelicans only hold 15+2 crew, they would be very uselful, since theyre slow big and probable only mounting a small gun (probably the equivelant of an LAAG), youll need good pilots to use them, not some stupid (insert forbidden word here) who goes in a straight line and tries to stop over their base and then hold there for 3 minutes wile everyone disembarks.

I hope ive made the point that it wouldnt be imbalaned, as like everything else it depends on the skill of the user, so if they are in MP take pride when you take a SPNKR fire off a nice big 112mm shaped charge at it and score 17 kills at once. Or even chase it down in a banshee get on its 6, (apply the brakes so oyu dont overshoot the slow thing) line up with the passenger compartment, pull the l trigger and watch that fuel rod blast straight in there tearing those SPARTAN (insert forbidden word here) be boiled alive.

Why is everyone convinced that piloting the Pelican would be so difficult, the Banshee was one of the easiest 'planes' to fly that I have ever flown and seeing as the Pelican if it was in the game would follow the same principle then why does anyone think that if it was hyperthetically in Halo 2 that it would be hard to pilot, there is no evidence to support your arguement.
