I like spiders because they are less harmful than bugs which spread pestilence and infest your house (and in some cases cause serious structural damage). Also, since I hate all bugs except dragonflies I love spiders because they eat bugs. I once chased a large mosquito-like bug into a spider's web and watched it be eaten, because this spider didn't bother with webbing it up for later, it just ate it alive even though the bug was 5x bigger.

Once, I rigged three 9 volt batteries together and made it so there were two wires sticking out, I called it the spider prod. It didn't kill the spider though, just made him ticked. Need some bigger batteries, maybe a car battery..........hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......put him in a pool of water...........then add wires attached to a car battery.............or mist him first and use a safe battery...................that just might work..........

I am scared off the medium and larger ones too, but not tarantualas, cause you can hold them. Spiders are my only real fear, but I can overcome it, I don't have Arachnaphobia.

I had a pet tarantula once and it was a pretty cool pet, even though I never got the courage to handle it. But as long as they aren't toxic I see no reason why people fear spiders. Come on they are PUNY. Most of them couldn't hurt you if they tried.

I am scared to death of them.

STORY TIME!

I was sitting on my computer being all happy. Then from under the keyboard crawls this spider. I am scared to death of those things so I looked around for something to smack it with. I picked up my Janne Da Arc DVD but that was too precious so I grabbed around and got out a floppy disk, started smacking the spider with it. Of course because of my terrible aim I missed and it ran under a pile of papers. So since I was too scared to pick up that pile of papers I ran into the kitchen, opened the closet and grabbed out a yard stick. I ran back into the computer room and used the yard stick and started beating the pile of papers with it. The spider ran out and fell on the floor, somewhere where I couldn't see it. So I sat the chair far away from the computer and typed with the yard stick.

Boy, was that fun...

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I love 'em... Wouldn't want one as a pet, but still.... And yes, I am a freak... damn proud of it, too.

Spiders are damn cool, in my opinion. 8 eyes, and spin the strongest natural substance found on Earth.... and bite the heads off of lesser bugs. Mmmmmm, tasty.

The only "spiders" (not really spiders) that I don't like are Spiderman, and "vinegroons" (they're arachnids (but not really spiders), and not really vinegroons, but many people call them that (real vinegroons are actually whip-tail scorpions...)... I can't remember thier real name).... Vinegroons are creepy as hell. They're not poisonous, but I think they should be... Massive jaws, legs that look like they're armored... long and thick.

Here's my story of a bad incident with a Vinegroon:

I was reading a book (can't remember what it was) in New Mexico on a bed, and a vinegroon crawled across the page. I through the book across the room, but the vinegroon jumped off it onto the bed just as I did. Luckily, it didn't go anywhere... it just sat there. So I got another book, hands shaking (the thing came up so suddenly it scared the crap out of me (not litterally)), and smushed the bugger. I scooped up its corpse, and carried over to the garbage bag. Then, I threw it away. BYE BYE, VINNY!!!

BUT THEN!!!!

RIGHT after throwing Vinny in the garbage, I stepped on a scorpion... BAREFOOT! I heard the damn thing crunch, too. Luckily, my foot was spared from a painful sting (I don't want to know how painful that can be... I have a hard enough time with bees), since they don't really sting on reflex (unlike stingrays, which nail you if you step on them). But it was a close call. All because of my dear friend Vinny. After that I threw the scorp corpse down the sink... don't ask me why I didn't put him in the garbage... I think it was because the sink was closer... Can't remember.

Vinnies are bad luck, see?

But, although they sting, Scorps are cool, just like normal spiders.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

And because of things like that, I strongly suggest that you never walk around barefoot (even inside) in New Mexico.... not necessarily because of scorpions, but because there's tons of stuff that will mess up your feet if you step on them.

The best and most common example are Goatheads (they're not heads of goats, they're seeds to a type of plant that grows in the desert in New Mexico (and probably other places, too)).... Barbed, spikey, nasty plant-seeds of death and evil, I tells ya! They stick in your shoes, car and bike tires, everywhere.... and then if you walk on rugs, they come off your shoes and stick in the rug, too!

Never walk barefoot in New Mexico.

Those spiders are super freaky; the vast majority of spiders, especially ones any of us are remotely likely to find at home, are harmless unless you happen to be allergic. There are a few odd species (Loxosceles reclusa, Latrodectus hesperus, you know...)that should be handled with care, and they're sooper-dooper famous for it because it really is unusual for a spider to be more dangerous than a bee. Jay likes spiders and finds them to be very interesting. Jay also refuses to kill something just because it's creepy; Jay will ONLY kill a spider if it poses some mortal threat to Jay. Spiders are appreciated in this home because they kill nasty flies and are much cleaner than flies.

There are two groups of people in the world - those that hope, and those that wish. The first group hopes that nothing bad will happen. The second group wishes that they are there when it does. Which one are you?

-Felix

You people should see something called the Camel Spider in Iraq. Ugliest god damn creature I have ever seen, won't hurt you, but man will it get your attention. Also there is one called the Cane Spider in Hawaii, they don't bite you either and they make good pets...but at about the size of your hand...they can be a little intimidating.

Is this what's meant by "Camel Spider"? Jay would like to point out that it's not a spider,(despite the common name) but a non-spider arachnid. Those interested shoud Google "Solifugae". Jay saw one of these things on some documentary on something else entirely and wondered what the heck they are since they look closely related to spiders despite being obviously not spiders...
