New to the Halo2 Forum Thread....

Ok first off let me start by saying... i don't need all the smart a$$ people that LIVE in forums replying unless you have some help for me.... no one care to read your flaming posts...

now with that said....
I have been playing Halo since DAY 1. i have been playing Halo 3 since it came out and have not put in my copy of Halo 2 since the day Halo 3 came out, well the other week i popped it in because i was gonna play online with someone who does not have Halo 3... well needless to say it WILL not let me sign online... Let me Explain.
I CAN NOT sign into Halo 2 (Online)
I CAN play any other game in the world online. including Halo 3
I have tried, A different, Xbox, a different Disc, even my Old Xbox 1, even deleted my saves, and did all the work with router and soo on...
I CAN sign in and play with a different account....
I HAVE called 1-800-4-MY-XBOX ( about 6 times) NOO HELP
I HAVE email webmaster@bungie.com 6 times so far ( no reply)
I HAVE called Bungie ( Yes i have, yes i know the number is hard to find but i found it and talked to two different people so far) Not much help.... supposed to get back with me sometime in the future.

so basically i have done everything to make sure it is my account not my hardware....

Now let me say, i am a very GOOD gamer. meaning i am not a jerk, i don't cheat, i don't do anything what so ever other then just play the game... keep in mind i haven't played since... Last Played: 9/24/2007 8:33:04 PM as it says on my Bungie.net stats... so not sure why my profile would be banned....

My Plead for help is. does anyone have any better idea as to find out if i have been banned? I am at a loss and have tried everything. why wold i not be able to play Halo 2 online... when i know there is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for me to be banned...?

Thanks for reading. and if any of the mods or anyone from Bungie actually reads this will you PLEASE help me... i just want to play the game i payed you guys for...

My gamer tag is RHINOTRONICScom if you can find anything out. message me there.

imo i think original x box games dont work so well on 360's cuz i had ran into some problems with halo 2 on the 360 before

Take it easy man, if you've spent time here lately you would know we don't flame in general.

Now, you didn't say how you are trying to sign-in. You must load H2 and do all the sign-in again through the H2 dash. Did you do that?

Did you get to the part that wants to update and then the part that has you download Map Packs?

When you are on the H2 dash, can you see your gamertag?

When i try and sign in it says can not and wants me to do a trouble shoot.
i have tried updating, i have tried deleting everything from my HDD and re downloading it.

i have tried absolutely everything... i have found that it might be NXE and a lot of people have some different theory's as to why. but im finding its more then just me now...

Yeah, sometimes you gotta wait it out. One last thing, you did clear the cache, right? I assume you did.

At the end of the pinned thread (Dr WE1RD) is a couple of interesting comments about the same thing.

Good luck with this.

Oh, one more thing. You said you hadn't played in a while. Did you happen to buy a one month subscription? A lot of people have had the one month problem, but if they go ahead and buy a 3 month or 12 month subscription, it overrides the one month and they can play. Otherwise you wait it out.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

wow this happened to me yesterday when i decided i would try halo 2 again, what i did was i deleted all of the halo 2 data on the hard disk then cleared the cache, i had to re-download everything but it just worked as normal in the end.

I GOT IT!!
I read in several different places about the ONE MONTH GLITCH... meaning if you ever used one of those 1 Month of Xbox Live cards. i have and i just got a 3 month card put that in and whola!! im online with HALO 2!! thanks to anyone who helped and i hope this helps everyone else who is as frustrated as me...

Just get yourself a 3 month card...
Clear the Cache.
Delete and re download all maps..
i even deleted everything, game saves included.

Good for you, but to anybody else, don't delete the saves because it will not help. All this stuff is in Dr WE1RD's thread.

There are several things I would try in this instance.

1.) Clear your Hard drive's memory cache. I can't recall the button combination needed to do this, however it will allow you to re-download the updates needed to games on live.

2.) I would check your account's settings. Perhaps you are not allowed to play old xbox live games on live. That may be your only problem. Xbox 360's factory settings generally come with that function disabled. I would enable it to play original xbox titles.

3.) You said you deleted your saved content and that may be true, but did you delete your current maps? I personally would delete your current Halo 2 saved files, including the map packs. Then, I would proceed to clear the cache as stated above on your harddrive. This will allow you to redownload the patches necessary to play the game, as well as allow you to redownload the maps needed to play on live.

Those are really the only options I can think of and sorry if I am reiterating what others have mentioned. Good Luck in your endeavors.

EDIT: Haha, wow, I see you were able to figure it out. Guess I was a wee bit late haha. Glad to hear it.

I respectfully disagree, emphatically. Get the 3 or 12 month, delete Map Packs, clear cache (Y at HDD page, then XX, LB, RB, XX), update, redown and try it to see if you can get on. The skull saves are important so don't delete them unless it still doesn't work after trying what I said above. I've got saves from day 1 and I wouldn't want to lose them.

There's just no reason for the server to communicate with saves. Those are for Campaign only and the server would have no reason to examine them. The server reads the cache and grabs your Map Packs.

He already solved the problem; not to mention I merely mentioned the saved files since it is possible they could have been corrupted and I am asuming he wouldnt care about campaign saves. The only things would be character profiles, which are attached to gamertags. I would think that could cause issues...but perhaps not. That was merely my quick thinking on the subject.

Honestly though, the map packs would have been a good thing to delete because Bungie did ultimately have to have us reinstall the last map pack due to an error on them. Furthermore, I have heard of issues being resolved by their deletion and then subsequent reinstatement on the hard drive.

My quote after he told me he'd fixed the problem so I knew. My later text was for anyone else.

We are in agreement then on the Map Pack thing.

I dunno if anyone's said this yet, but delete the maps from your hard drive, and then re-download them all. It should work.

  • 02.23.2009 3:01 PM PDT

The same thing happened to me and I tried everything but it wouldn't work, until....
the other day I decided to try it again and it magically worked I don't know what happend or if it was just not the day but it worked, I guess just wait a couple of days or something then try it again.

Ask Shishka, although you may not like the reply.

Bungie is the best.

Simple as that.

lol, the OP got the fix many posts ago, it was the 'one month subscrption' that was killing him. MS can't fix it in a timely fashion so he bought a three month and that did the trick.
