Just out of curiosity... what are you using to capture with? I could be wrong... but what you have there on youtube is not HD resolution.

What format and res are you capturing at? What format and specs are you rendering with?

Ummmm.... correct me if I'm wrong, but that capture device doesn't capture in HD. It doesn't have the capability. You may actually be reducing your final quality by rendering it in an HD format. I would stick with a normal SD format... 720X480.

What format does the card capture to? Also what size are the files you capture? What cables are you using to capture with... s-video or composite (yellow + red/white)?

I'll check the new video you put up though.

Oh and I'm not trying to be a jerk... just trying to help you get the best quality you can.

Ok just watched a bit of it... looks good, BUT, definitely not HD. I really think you'd get better results if you weren't rendering to the HD format and stick with the standard NTSC 720x480.

You'll still get the same quality, it will most likely look better in youtube, AND you'll have a smaller file size.

Here's a link to the montage I just edited for a friend...
Teh Pacifist's First Montage

I think we have about similar quality. It was capped with standard def composite cables... and would probably improve with s-video connection. What do you use?

Peace,

That's a bummer... but still your quality isn't bad. I mean it's definitely not detracting from you video. I do think however, having the HD link there and the window expanding to 16:9 format HD when the video isn't... IS a bit distracting.

Like I said... I would render as high res as you can, but keep it at 720x480. Personally I think you'll have a better final result.

Also if you're interested in truly recording HD... look into a Black Magic Intensity cap card. It allows you to capture via HDMI... and you can actually get 1080i HD! it costs around $250 USD.

edit: the other option if you HAVE to use USB to connect to your computer is Hauppauge's HD PVR... again the cost is around $250, but it can also capture 1080i via Component (Red/Green/Blue) cables.

Well everyone is new to it at some point... so yeah... no prob! I'm still relatively new to editing myself. I've had a capture card for a year now, but didn't really get serious about editing until I got a copy of Vegas Pro... which I've had for a couple of months.

Pretty much it just comes down to practice and do your best not to take people's criticisms personally. Brush off the flamers and try to get as much as you can from those who are being constructive with their criticism.

Also check out Halo3forum.com and HighImpactHalo.org for more editing resources!

Peace,
Murph
