Subject: Level from E3

"YOU LIKE THAT -blam!- , BABY !!!!"

I just watched the trailer of halo 2 at E3 recently and remembered the disappointment I felt when I saw that the level shown wasn't in the actual game. Firstly, why was this level taken out? And was it ever released onto the internet?

-Have fun.

I don't actually know? Too big maybe I don't know. Honestly though I don't think it really matters, the game is awsome as it is.

That was a mistake on Bungie's part. Since that level was better then the one found in the retail game.

Bungie is the best.

Simple as that.

Parts of the actual level is in the game, just parts though, the models are better in the retail version too :P

Can you believe it?

That level was much more epic than Outskirts and Metropolis. I'm not sure of why they would want to take it out and replace it with two less interesting levels.

All I wanted was the cutscene at the end of it. That's all.....

  • 02.24.2009 11:11 PM PDT

It was seven minutes long. Yeah, Halo 2 should have been 90 minutes long! That would've made it much better! ...not.

R.I.P. Halo 2

I'm not sure why they took out that part, but I do know they re made Halo 2 after E3 because the physics engine in the E3 trailer was that of Halo 1, you can tell by the way the warthog splatters all those Jackal, and the way it moves.

It was one of the levels I was looking forward to playing too...

you need air dude.............

They ran out of time, I've also heard that the Xbox 1 couldn't handle that level properly so they had to take it out. It did look pretty damn cool but stuff changes all the time in games development.

Obviously, that wouldn't have been the full game. :)

*re-watches trailer*

I'm just guessing that a level like that would be incredibly difficult for the players who planned on beating the entire game on Legendary. By the looks of that trailer, that would be quite a feat.

Other than that, it's still a great looking level. I really would have liked to at least try that level :-)

I remember that. I also wanted that level in. As well, I was looking forward to the BR being single shot, but I still like it all the same.

I remember the old vids too. I was so excited about Halo2... :)

AHHH wrong...according to the halo 2 limited edition dvd, it was a part of an ideal level they were going to implement into the game. But, due to the time and the choices they made for the story, the mombasa level couldn't fit with the storyline they were making. It would of been awesome to play tho. Hope ODST brings the feeling back.

Not only that, but there was a lot changed from what I have gauged in seeing the LE DVD, and in reading all the Weekly Updates.

The biggest problem I have with the removal of this level are all the events that take place. The trailer had certain things like Longswords flying overhead, that plasma cannon that actually did something, the new Jackal shields, hell, even the fact that the ODST's actually had a unique property to them, rather than just feeling like marines with a different skin. That patio was a nifty place to shoot from, the ride through the city was pretty cool, but the best part I feel was what they actually portrayed Earth to be like in 2552.

The city had certainly evolved into something substantially awe-inspiring. The stacking levels, the gigantic structures, the architecture, there was just so much to it. I was so looking forward to exploring the level, looking at all the set pieces that had been designed. It's such a shame that it all had to go to waste; I don't know if the statement 'The grass is always greener on the other side' applies to this, but the New Mombasa we ended up with was just not interesting at all.

I don't know if it's just my eyes playing tricks on me or if this does happen to be an interesting easter egg, but if you look into the blinking red signs (I think they're warning signs for the bridge) at the beginning of Metropolis, you can see the old version of the city being reflected.

Not to mention the music; why is it that every unique-sounding segment from every pre-release video for Halo 2 and 3 goes missing in the retail versions? :(
