Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Mr. B–
1) No– at least I can't get it to work. I can set it up so that when I mouse click with the Control key down I toss a grenade, but not if I just hit the Control key without mouse clicking. As far as I can tell, (thought I saw it in some documentation), the game designers locked out Command, Option and Control except as modifiers for the mouse click.
4) If the enemy gets your flag out of your base you should have to carry it back in, not just tag it and have it zap back in place. At least that should be an option in the game setup.
5) Sometimes hogs are stationary and even if the chain gun is not accurate, a zoom can be used for recon, just like you use the one on the rocket launcher.
6) Rocket hog seems to be effective at close range, like when you get close to another hog and blast 'em. And for that it's great. Maybe it's just that I hate Banshees and I'd like something like the tank turret to zap 'em out of the sky with, only more manuverable.
7) Yeah, the aiming reticle. Can't for the life of me figure out what you're supposed to line it up with to hit the target. I'd almost rather not have it in my face when I'm trying to use the gun. I've come across people who can kill with it from a distance, so I guess there's a way to aim it.
Of course I want new toys, (weapons and vehicles), I expect pretty graphics. As someone who started playing Marathon, I miss the story. Yeah, Halo has an ok story behind it, (better than most), but it's just not as interesting as the Marathon series. Durandal is a tough act to follow.
Also, the architecture in Halo, while better rendered, is kind of bland. And the campaign is very linear– basically only one way through the levels. Marathon had a maze quality that appealed to the puzzle solver in me that games like Doom did not have. I guess when you develop for the console crowd some things fall by the wayside.
I also miss the mapping feature in Marathon. In a complex map it would help to be able to bring up a map view showing where you've been. Of course, if there's only one way through and they point the way with flashing lights, you don't need the map.
I have not played Halo2, so I don't know about the ranking. I enjoy it more when I plat at my level than when I'm getting slaughtered or when I'm killing with no apparent resistance. I'd like to be able to bookmark servers that I've enjoyed playing on. Or at least have the server name appear when you check the score and when the game ends.
Another thing– when youve got team mates in a hog with you, I wish their names appeared near their health readouts. We all look alike, so it would be nice to be able to know who your gunner is, etc.
