Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

I know, Halo 2 is not yet on the Mac/PC platform(s), but since they port the X-Box to PC and the PC to Mac, we need to think ahead. And make our voices heard early.

I have a few things I'd like to see in Halo. Feel free to chime in with your own wishes.

1) I wish the Command, Option and Control keys could be used, not just as click modifiers, but to do things like toss grenades, jump, and crouch or alt trigger.

2) If you've ever played XIII you'll know what real hand thrown grenades can be– First click of the grenade button pulls the pin and the seconds start ticking. The second click throws it. Hold it too long and you go boom. Much better than 3 seconds after it comes to rest. In hilly terrain that could be next Tuesday. Or, the assault rifle grenade launcher from Marathon had a better firing arc. In Halo, you can toss a grenade across BG, but you have to throw so high that your target is out of your field of vision. If Master Chief can flip a tank you'd think he could toss grenades like a major league pitcher.

3) You should be able to set it up so that you have to press a key to pick up the flag, just like you have to to pick up a weapon, (this should be an option in case you like it as is). Sometimes I want to kill an opponent before taking the flag, but I get a hair too close and all of a sudden I have a flag in my hands. I know I can melee with the flag, but I'm not always close enough and sometimes we're playing without shields. Also sometimes I want to drop the flag for a moment to kill a pursuer and blunder into the flag before I get a chance to dispatch him.

4) A CTF option that requires that you carry your flag back into your base, not just touch it, or wait till it resets. That could get really interesting.

5) Zoom scope on tank and hog guns. Most people use the rocket launcher as a close weapon, the scope on that is a waste.

6) Speaking of hog guns, the rocket hog could use some Viagra. Slow, limp trajectory needs a boost.

7) Fuel rod gun needs a scope that does something. Just what are you supposed to do with those horizontal lines? Again, the grenade launcher in Marathon had a predictable arc. Your distant target could be in your field of vision when you fire.

Mr. B–

1) No– at least I can't get it to work. I can set it up so that when I mouse click with the Control key down I toss a grenade, but not if I just hit the Control key without mouse clicking. As far as I can tell, (thought I saw it in some documentation), the game designers locked out Command, Option and Control except as modifiers for the mouse click.

4) If the enemy gets your flag out of your base you should have to carry it back in, not just tag it and have it zap back in place. At least that should be an option in the game setup.

5) Sometimes hogs are stationary and even if the chain gun is not accurate, a zoom can be used for recon, just like you use the one on the rocket launcher.

6) Rocket hog seems to be effective at close range, like when you get close to another hog and blast 'em. And for that it's great. Maybe it's just that I hate Banshees and I'd like something like the tank turret to zap 'em out of the sky with, only more manuverable.

7) Yeah, the aiming reticle. Can't for the life of me figure out what you're supposed to line it up with to hit the target. I'd almost rather not have it in my face when I'm trying to use the gun. I've come across people who can kill with it from a distance, so I guess there's a way to aim it.

Of course I want new toys, (weapons and vehicles), I expect pretty graphics. As someone who started playing Marathon, I miss the story. Yeah, Halo has an ok story behind it, (better than most), but it's just not as interesting as the Marathon series. Durandal is a tough act to follow.

Also, the architecture in Halo, while better rendered, is kind of bland. And the campaign is very linear– basically only one way through the levels. Marathon had a maze quality that appealed to the puzzle solver in me that games like Doom did not have. I guess when you develop for the console crowd some things fall by the wayside.

I also miss the mapping feature in Marathon. In a complex map it would help to be able to bring up a map view showing where you've been. Of course, if there's only one way through and they point the way with flashing lights, you don't need the map.

I have not played Halo2, so I don't know about the ranking. I enjoy it more when I plat at my level than when I'm getting slaughtered or when I'm killing with no apparent resistance. I'd like to be able to bookmark servers that I've enjoyed playing on. Or at least have the server name appear when you check the score and when the game ends.

Another thing– when youve got team mates in a hog with you, I wish their names appeared near their health readouts. We all look alike, so it would be nice to be able to know who your gunner is, etc.

The choice of voice chat, a friends list, well writen net code, favourite server list, and optimization in the video aspect so you don't need a high end card to play well.

I'd like to see a paint job option where you can re-coat vehicles, and whenever you get in them, they change to match your custom paint job.(Of course with multiplayer only, they would think it would be too obvious on single mode if a re-painted shiny banshee attacked.) Wouldn't it be fun to trick n00bs into thinking they put the Yellow Banshee into Halo 3? lol...
I'd also like to see the covenant fooled into thinking you're one of them if you don't attack in a wraith or banshee. They just seem to "know" it's you..

1.) huh, what u talkin' bout' Willis?
2.) Ya they did put that in America's Army as well but those games are based on real life Halo is a sci-fi shooter (i.e NOT REAL~!!!!) so it would just be too complicated, halo is so good in the fact of its simplicity. As well, the thing with the amount of power u throw grenades wth, many people argue that games aren't realistic and they don't make sense, well they're NOT REAL, they don't have to makes sense, they made the MC able to flip tanks and other vehicles because with the current physics system what happens if the vehicle flips over, what, u can't use it again? that would be more stupid, it's just stuff that makes sense given the games elements, alas it would be just silly if the MC could throw a nad eacross the map.

3.)hmmm I thought they have an option for this, that u have to physically bring ur flag back to it's flag holder. well if not they should defenitely put this in Halo 3 or add this to Halo 2 for PC.

4-7.) Oh and all that talk about scopes is sily, why, back in my day, we colud actually use the sight on a tank well. If u know how to actually use those lines (like me) they are quite useful, scopes on vehicles is just an erraneous thing that would just take away from the game's simplicity, however scopes on weapons is acceptable, i use the scope on the rocket launcher time to time when shooting a long shot at a non-moving target (like that happens a lot...)

P.S to the guy above: this is Halo a sci-fi shooter, NOT Need for speed making paint-jobs on your hot-rod. What do u want Bungie to let u do? put nitros in the back of ur hog?
