The system is currently set up so that it either labels you as your security level (obviously that is buggy, the mods all are in a security role called "Forum Moderator", so that's what their label will be), or a global override "special title", like "Bungie.net Overlord". Everybody else is "Member" because that's your security role in the main site. In the "new hotness" 7th column, you'll be able to define the names of your chapter's own security roles, effectively allowing titles to be assigned.

Of course, the side effect is that in the public forums, almost everyone is a "Member". So, we're thinking about ways to mix it up a bit to label you as something other than your security role. It won't be based on post count. Actually, I have a really good set of ideas that we're probably going to do, but they are really creative and cool, so you can just speculate about them for now. ;)

That's awesome, oh great Overlord! I can't wait to see what kind of Hotness the New, um, Hotness will bring.

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Hmmmm... Interesting news, Achronos.

Achronos's avatar rules all. Bungie.net Overlord indeed.

I've got one for me, as an alternative to the Barron's suggestion (Wiseman.... Although I really like that one, too):

Mediator

Is it just me? I feel like I'm usually posting things in order to stop other people from flaming and fighting eachother senselessly....

Maybe its just me...

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Mine would HAVE to be Mr.Smiley's -blam!- :D

If not: "Long time member that hates all these damn kids making all that racket."

Or: "Halo53: The game to redefine gaming"

You all KNOW there will be a Halo53. And when the time comes, I will laugh at you all! Bwahahahaha! Mwahahahaha!

You know what Barron? I honestly think that would fit perfectly. Only because they wouldn't allow my first choice... :P

That's the result when you get mehve to make a drawing of you - utterly amazing. Remarkably, though, that's a fairly accurate portrayal of how I really look - although I usually don't wear sunglasses. :)

I wonder what Lorraine would draw when faced with my terrorist-resembling passport photo...

Cool... utterly amazing, indeed....

I wish I could draw portraits that good (I really suck at portraits...).

I also wish I could use color in my drawings that well.... for some reason, I just can't use color.

Give my compliments to mehve. That's awesome.

Hmm, I think I would like Neanderthal Deathmonger as my title. That, or Habete Quidam. Oh wait, that one's reserved for Jones. My bad :-)

BTW, that’s some really awesome news, Achronos. The new hotness can’t come soon enough!

That's not fair, Frankie and Sketch have a history with me, especially since I teased both of them. Sketch the story, and Frankie with numerous bald jokes....

So I'd get some really odd, unique name like 'Village Idiot'.

My title would be Smartest Dumbass.

I wonder how they will be making this titler. I mean they said they won't do it by posts(because that provokes spam), so the only other ways I can think of is if the labeled every individually(highly unlikely), or if they title them by how long they have been here(which I hope they don't do because I accidently deleted my old login and now I have a new one). So what other ways are there besides the ones I've mentioned.

That would be Shishka. Have you seen him on the HBO forums every once in awhile? Talk about a Shishka-bob.

Though there was one time I saw him lose an arguement on the HBO forums. (Of course he would never admit it...*snicker*)

bah

Well, with the built-in special naming system that Bungie uses on themselves, there's no reason they couldn't give people funny names. But it was meant as more of a show of respect. I know how damn good I'd feel if Bungie decided to slap a special name onto my profile. And the *cough* new people *cough* would get a better idea of whose someone to listen to around here. Like if Banshee Barron was "Master BS" they'd know to just ignore him!

  • 07.13.2004 8:23 PM PDT

I'm assuming the "Master BS" means "Master Banshee".

*ahem* Anyhow you have a point there, only a select few (maybe 15 out of the Million or so users) should have the special titles. Otherwise they'd become less of an honor to have.

Agreed. People who deserve recognition, or have a unique quality or skill that benefeits the community. Titles should mean something.

Perhaps some really lucky (ie. active and highly contributing) members could even get their own custom avatars.
