Subject: CE's campaign is better than Halo 3s

Halo CE's campaign rapes H3's. No contest.
What is? A newcomer?

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

In terms of campaign.....

Halo:CE is the juicy medium-rare steak that was new and exciting but Halo 3 was the left over of the meal and now should be found in your toilet seat waiting to get flushed.

Basically Halo:CE is what started it all and Halo 3 was a mediocre game at best in its campaign nothing new in terms of experience except the scarab battles.

Halo 3 online is where its all at though!

The Elites are more of a challenge to fight. They have recharging shields, which means they need to be finished off, quick, rather than taking potshots.

And nothing had recharging health; everything aside from Human Vehicles and Dropships were finite in damage resistance. A well-timed melee(no Lunging) felt satisfying, and behaved equally so.

Oh big time, I prefer fighting the Elites and I still get a kick out of fighting them. Elites having recharging shields meant (especially on Halo 2 legendary) that you had to get them or your ammo was going to run out very fast indeed...Brutes just seemed (pardon the pun) to monkey around all the time and generally not pose a threat, except for a Chieftain every now and then.

I have to agree. It's no fun fighting an enemy that you know you just have to put a few potshots into. There's no challenge. And Legendary is just painful.

Need some Potatoes in there, and a Caesar salad to warm up, then it's a perfect meal.

The improvements to the meal we are making or the campaign levels?

Back on topic: do you think the next Halo related game will take onboard the lessons of Halo CE's style campaign/design or the skullduggery of Halo 2 and 3's ?

I don't see why everyone claims H3 campaign difficulty is babyish. Sure, the Brutes aren't as formidable foes as the Elites (how it should be) but they aren't lumbering idiots, and they are quite deadly on legendary.

They're only deadly because they take 1 melee or only 4 shots with a Plasma Rifle to kill you.

I wouldn't say that Halo 3's campaign is babyish.....Brutes to me are just not as formidable.....take an Elite from Halo CE or even the deadly Elites from the opening levels of Halo 2....whack it up to legendary and you are telling me you cannot see the difference between them and a Halo 3 Brute?

However I do wonder if our opinions would be the same if the Brutes had appeared first then Elites appeared later....

  • 03.12.2009 1:27 AM PDT

The Campaign in Halo 3 definitely isn't babyish. Like you said, the Brutes aren't as good fighters, they just do much more damage with individual shots.

I suppose we'll never know the difference.

Elites are smarter anyway. They haz... FOUR mandibles!

  • 03.14.2009 11:54 AM PDT

You, like many many others, are a casual a gamer. I know this because people who understand competitive gaming know that having a "god weapon" is vital to competitive play. Reach's sandbox makes you choose a weapon and stick to it's niche. But when you have a dominant all-purpose weapon, you are free to move around the map. When you can navigate the entire map, you are suddenly given many more options strategically, and being able to find the best option is indeed a skill.

CE is better in general.

I liked Halo 3's storyline. Sequels frequently have higher expectations that fall short if the original is successful.

Pretty much, I can only think of a handful of sequels that have been better than the original - Streets of Rage 2 on the Mega Drive (Genesis) Street Fighter 2 (SNES) etc etc, more or less sequels tend to give the gamers more of what they want, but somehow fudge it up.....

If I was going to suggest a couple of improvements to Halo CE's campaign, then I would be being very picky indeed, as for me, its as close to whatt I want in an FPS campaign...

One of the aspects that makes Halo: CE's campaign so much better is the simplicity and mysterious aura that surrounds it. You know so little of what is going on.
Take the Covenant for example. In Halo 2 and 3, they are humanized and much more about them is revealed so that you can sympathize with them.
However, in Halo: CE, they are merely a an extremely advanced, apparently fanatical alien coalition that is bent on humanity's destruction.

Well when we look back on it Halo Ce seems like a great game ['cus it is].

Great story, insidious enemy, not to mention a major plot twist. Man the flood, when i saw those guys for the first time, i admit i was scared [this has nothing to do with the fact i was about 11 at the time]. IMO it was more the ppl who we played with then just the game, but Halo helped it along too.
