you won't need to read them, but you should, at least fall of reach and first strike, i though they were pretty good, the flood was just a rehash of the game and was kinda boring, i found

NO you dont need to read the books , however bungie did work with eric nylund closes with the storyline, they are very well written and stand on their own as good military sci fi novels. i recommmend

i still think the books have nothing to do with the games.

The Fall of Reach and First Strike are great reads and while they are not needed to follow the story in Halo2, they explain many things in great detail around the story. So it's completely up to you whether or not you wanna spend the time to read em, just your preference.

However, the books ARE closely tied to the games. As stated in another thread, there is a Halo Bible (as it's been called) that all of the stories originate and are written from. Everything in the books has been OKed by and closely checked by bungie, Nyland worked closely with Bungie staff when writing the books, so what's in em is in the story. And First Strike leaves you right up to when Halo 2 will probably begin

The books are based on the Halo Bible, so their stories are not only connected to the game stories, they are part of them. I am sure that there will be a sumation of events after halo 1 at the begining of halo 2 so that it is not neccasary to read the books. And dont think of it as wasting $20 or so on a handful of books, they are all good reads and help pass the time till halo 2.

The word you're looking for is thread, not forums

If we locked 20 forums, we'd have to lock all of Bungie.net's, and then 10 more

I really don't think Bungie will focus their game strictly on the books. Mainly because there is a chance that could cause negative feedback. Most people want a smooth transition from one game to another, not requiring to read books to get updated to be able to follow the story to the second game. If Bungie will follow the other books, that will be great for the book followers only, not all 4 million-plus Halo game buyers. I don't know how many people have bought the Halo books, but I haven't seen them in the best sellers. However Halo for xbox has been in top 10 all it's life. Now I know I am about to be "bashed" out the rearend by everyone, but that is my thoughts, and I'm sticking to it!

Not gonna bash you cause your worries are valid. However, we've simply been stating that while reading the books is not necessary to follow the story in the game (and i'm sure they'll tie up a lot in the opening sequence) the books give a more in depth look into a story that's intrigue millions of fans everywhere.

Example. Anyone who's read the books knows that there are other Spartans alive headed to Earth. They will certainly explain in enough detail at the beginning of Halo 2 why there are other Spartans (could even be something as simple and easy as "There were unexpected survivors on Reach" or something like that). But if you read the books you have a much greater understanding of not only who they are, but what has happened to them, making the story, IMO, more in depth and enjoyable.

I think they will have a quick sum up of the book "first strike" in halo2. or else everyone wouldnt understand why there are other spartans along with the MC, or why johnson is still alive.

Yeah and I could see that being easily explained by Cortana to someone over a comm channel ot something as the MC and crew fly over Earth, it'd be as simple as that. Hell they could even have a scene at ONI HQ with interregations, but that all depends on what's goin on when Halo 2 begins. For all we know the Covies could already be there as it seemed to be in the first trailer.
