So I hear all about this leading problem in halo: Combat evolved. I understand it really only works in situations where a person is running in one direction but how far ahead do I shoot. Are we talking just to the side of them but still inside the red of the scope or like so far ahead that the target isn't red anymore?

Depends on your ping and the weapon you are using, as well as the angle they are running, and how you are moving, and most importantly distance to target.

If they are really far away, sniper/pistol distance, you don't have to compensate as much because them taking one step doesn't require you to adjust your aim much. On the other hand if they are in your face, taking one step can require you to lead by around 45 degrees, which is why melee battles are often unpredictable and unsuccessful.

I see well ok, what about like in a typical blood gulch where you are running parellel with a guy using a pistol. Not too far not too close, how far would you lead?

Reality is just a crutch for people who can't cope with drugs.

I guess just try putting the side of the reticle touching them, if you miss, aim further. If your computer can handle decals, turn them on so you can see bullet holes and stuff and adjust accordingly.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I usually aim 2 person-widths in the direction the target is moving. I don't always score hits so I'm sure I'm not leading correctly. I die a lot.
