Incredibly low sales =(
Exactly. Gamers aren't stupid, especially PC gamers. It was a lackluster port with a lot of problems. M$ tried to force both Vista, and the GFWL interface on people at once. The noobs were turned away by the Vista requirement. Some thought (incorrectly) you had to have a gold Live subscription. The Halo PC player that wanted to use the mouse and keyboard was taken in the rear by the awful mouse lag plus the auto-aim for the controller. And on top of that, the Xbox player was anticipating H3. The game was DOA probably just from the buy in cost alone, and the one feature that may have expanded the player base (cross platform) was never done. Also, the game was DX9 only, which may have turned off some of the bleeding edge too.
It was a frustrating game...I bought it, played the campaign, dealt with awful mouse controls, but the multiplayer was so sloppy it was painful. And lets not forget that Vista is in the process of being buried by M$ to make way for the next unsecure OS nobody needs to buy. The deck was stacked against H2v from the start really. Sure some people got it working on XP, but I don't think that mattered too much. The support was cut off b/c nobody was buying the game, and things were 'good enough' for them to walk away as quickly as possible.
And that's why I don't like Microsoft. No concern for customers at all. Only the desire to sqeeze every last penny from every person in the world with there crappy products. Quite the opposite of Bungie. I'm sure that if Bungie owned the rights or whatever to the Halo games it would have turned out much better, and we could see our stats online.
