I have been floatin' around the bungie forums, and whenever I post a comment, I get "flamed" or whatever the hell it is, for bein' a so called noob. Then I come to the septagon and I hear talk of "higher intelligence" here, and veterans, and how the underground sucks because of all the -blam!-s and jerks, etc etc. Yet I have read several posts talking of noobs, noobs suck, blah blah. If the septagon is so much better, why don't the people blasting us noobs get a life and grow up. excuse me for signing up late, and excuse me for having another life outside of my bungie/Halo/xbox obsession. It says alot about a person when he has to blast others to make him or herself seem better. That's basic education, think about it

i'm sorry to hear that, you being flamed and called a noob that is. But we seriously are searching for a way to solve that problem. If you seriously get flamed, then let the moderators know, they are here to help you... i think (right stosh? shiska? right?)
But we do tell people to knock it of. we do, and i hope you won't be experiencing too much problems.

I'm in complete agreement with your opinion of people that call others noobs.

I haven't seen a thread where you've been called a noob, however. That's something listed as being explicitly against the rules. In the future, if someone calls you a noob, message me, and I'll take care of it.

The thread about the septagon being a superior forum to the Underground and Maw is a stupid one. In my opinion, some of the people around here are acting just like what they're accusing others of being, if you catch my drift.

Anyhow, I'm sorry you've had a rough start on the forum. If people call you a noob again, please, message me.

Being called a "noob" is really the "noob" thing to do. People do need to grow up and the veterans just might have to march into the Underground and ass wip everyone who's "falming". When I joined the 7 th column, I never got called a noob, I was never made fun of because I asked a question that seemed obvious, I was just told the anwser and good day. But now everyone has to be better than everyone else and it's a load of crap, seriously, grow the heck up.

It would be a good idea to tell a moderator at least who is doing the "flaming" that whay if they contiue, we can give them some kind of penititly or warning be issued. If we're going to have an inmature community, I guess we're going to have to inforce heavy rules....

and we don't want that to happen! i'm just glad i have only been called a noob once ( along time ago). This might work aswell: send the flamer a message, telling him what he did wrong and that he should stop it.

I've never thought as someone as a noob, as long as they are cool, it's ok with me. I like meeting new people, but if they want to go around bashing people because they a new, it just makes me want to chuck a brick through their windown!

Flaming people in general shouldn't be tolerated... If you cannot tell them in a kindly manner just don't repond or send them messenges and stuff...

It's good to know there are those of you out there who actually give a damn about the people using these forums. Thanks for the help folks, much appreciated.

Usually you'll see a tred of which people use what forum, and if that ever arises here (which I doubt), we will be ready to welcome them in.

At times I've thought of other users as "noobs" or "newbies," but never in the bad sense that flamers tend to use the word. I simply think of it as a description of that person's status, which can change with their first post, depending on what was in it. For example, if NewMember joins the forum and starts a thread titled "What's teh release date for Hlao 2?" [note that I didn't misspell words on purpose. I just didn't correct all of my own mistakes], I'll think of them as a noob. I won't think they're stupid for being so, just simply that they are new to the forums and don't know all that much about Halo 2. If someone else doesn't beat me to it, I'll politely explain it to them and ask them to do a search (oh wait, they can't do that . . . yet ;) ).

Still, I don't call people noobs, since it might offend them. But I hope people won't take offense if I think so.

Just my thoughts,
Poocho :)

I've been on the column since 2002, (The only reason it says 2004 is because i waited too long after the .Net Passport change to get this LOGIN back) and I remember when I first arrived. The "Halo Diplomatic Core" was the largest chapter at the time, so I eagerly signed up and offered my services. The founder, HUNTER12, gave me Staff privs, and basicly trained me for hours on end! Even stood behind me when i founded my own first chapter! Whatever happened to those people? Of course, we live in a society where respect is scoffed at and seldem ever learned, if EVER implicated. Do people really think they're achieving any great feat by oppressing the champions of tommorow? To all of you who are new, and have been flamed, never forget it. There will come a day when the newbies will be looking to you for guidance, and ou will have a chance to right the wrongs done to you. Understand that the majority of flamers are 10-14-year-olds who have no girlfriends, are most likely insecure about themselves in some way which drives them to lash out at others to appease thier own selfish pride. Your day will come, and may you be what they cannot.... "Professional"

Proffessionalism isn't reflected by skill, but by character. You're all better than them. By a LongShot!

hey i just suddenly thought,i dont think ive ever been called a noob, unless people did it behind my back...the only thing that was even slightly noobish of me was a quote that got into noob quote central at MSXL, i was jsut asking what yap yap was. i know now...

  • 04.24.2004 12:26 AM PDT

I was called a newbie whilst playing myth on b.net years ago (I don't think "noob" was even a word back then), but that was because of my complete lack of skill and tactical ability. :P Also I freely admitted to be a newbie, since it didn't really have anything negative about it; it was a direct synonym for "newcomer".

Don't lose too much sleep over it. Most of the people who will call you a "noob" aren't so old as they pretend to be. You have shown yourself to be a better and more intelligent person than they are, so just ignore it. In fact, by calling you a "noob", they're portraying the qualities of somebody who isn't familiar with the Bungie community at all and what it's about. The real "non-noobs" are just like you. :)

All good points. And I do not get offended when it's used to call me a newcommer, because I am when it comes to the forums, no doubt! LOL in this case it only makes sense to be called one? It's in the negative sense that sucks the slime off a Grunts behind!

  • 04.24.2004 8:22 AM PDT

OK, that put a really sick image in my head. Thanks. :S

n00b (noob means nothing, I laugh when people call others it) seemed to appear during the time I played QuakeWorld Team Fortress... It replaced the word LLama which was slang for Lamer and was placed on people that used hacks and cheats in games. But now-a-days people seem to mix up n00b and newb... =S

I was the biggest noob of all noobs on bungie.net back in the myth days. Man...I don't even want to think about it. Myth was also the very first internet game I ever played. You see there were no internet providers where I used to leave until around 1997. I lived on the side of mountain in the middle of the smokies. The lines were just too old and noisy. Very rural place.

But yea don't feel bad if someone calls you noob. Just ignore people who say that.

Calling people a noob is really starting to reflect who the flamers are and it’s really showing their ignorance. Really just ignore them, and when you become a big shot, be like; “that was the idiot that put me down, look where I am now!” and then just sit back and smile…

if you are called a noob-> ignore the flamer-> then call a moderator (or a mobster)->than sit back and laugh as they get punished.-> then stay friendly.

remember just ignoring doesn't help.

Look at this post. It's amazing but no one has called him a noob yet. Not only is he new to bungie.net, but he's also brand new to halo and the bungie community. I'm really happy with how the users here have treated him so far.

It's cool that we can have a place like the underground where new bungie fans can come and ask simple questions. So um...I don't really have a point...other than when you see a user ask a simple question, just answer it. You don't have to make anyone feel stupid.

It's funny to see how people think to what is the boundary for who gets called a 'noob' or not. What does it take to be called a noob? And what gives these people authority to distinguish if you're a 'noob' or not?

At first, I thought banning the word noob, or any variation of it, would be a silly idea, but I see now their reasons for it

And yea, the UG is getting a little messy, but it's not at a really bad point yet (a la xbox.com forums)
