When I said "suck it up", it refers to the person who is calling someone a "noob"... Just to make that clear.

I was the biggest noob of all noobs on bungie.net back in the myth days.
But I was the biggest noob of all. Not really though. JHM was huge, so was JBD, but you remember Frag-Fest right? Poster of the most cocky crap possible:I desparetly need someone to kick my ass in Halo multiplayer. I've only lost one match of multiplayer ever (I actually did let them win). Our house doesn't even have broad-band capability since it's 70 years old. Playing over the net-work is out of the question.

I want to know the most amazing things everyone has done in Halo. Sniping, killing, time it took to beat the game on legendary. You name it. I will make it my personal goal to beat your best records. My favorite experience was when I sniped a blue elite and a grunt in one shot, and on the second, took out the two red elites and the grunt in front of them.
Ahhh yes. And I still need someone to kick my ass. A single person. Even with Halo PC at my friend's house I still pwn most everyone. Maybe when Halo 2 comes out, and if I ever get LIVE, i'll show you all how to play some real Halo. :P

At times I've thought of other users as "noobs" or "newbies," but never in the bad sense that flamers tend to use the word. I simply think of it as a description of that person's status, which can change with their first post, depending on what was in it. For example, if NewMember joins the forum and starts a thread titled "What's teh release date for Hlao 2?" [note that I didn't misspell words on purpose. I just didn't correct all of my own mistakes], I'll think of them as a noob. I won't think they're stupid for being so, just simply that they are new to the forums and don't know all that much about Halo 2. If someone else doesn't beat me to it, I'll politely explain it to them and ask them to do a search (oh wait, they can't do that . . . yet ;) ).

Still, I don't call people noobs, since it might offend them. But I hope people won't take offense if I think so.

Just my thoughts,
Poocho :)

You nailed it, when I say "no0b" that is exactly what I mean. You guys know i say it a lot. But when I say "n0ob" this is what I mean, Rookie. Thats all I mean. I'm not trying to start a flame war. But I prefer the septagon to the underground simply because there are alot less "rookies." Anyways just thought I'd get that across and make amends for my previous posts that were interpreted incorecctly

But KIA I know you're a nice guy, but it just makes you sound much more nice when you say rookie and not "noob". People take "noob" to heart and then end up hating you and wanting to kill you*. (only in some extrem cases) So I say we stick by the code of conduct and just play nice.

What about adding the word "noob" and all of its variants to the profanity filter? I mean in the Rules and regulations or whatever it is a banned word isn;t it? So why not just add it to the filter?

While it may seem like a good idea if you see: "you're a -BLAM-!" then it's pretty much just fill in the blank and people will take it pretty far.

That's a bloody well point. It just might give you the wrong impression. No, i think the word n00b noob, or however you write just shouldn't be used. If you see someone using it in the wrong way, tell him so. If he/she doesn't listen, tell it to a moderator and let him take care of it. If could just keep our eyes open, and tell the people that this is wrong, i'm pretty sure the word will be used less and less. Altough it will never really go away.

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

Being called a "noob" is really the "noob" thing to do. People do need to grow up and the veterans just might have to march into the Underground and ass wip everyone who's "falming". When I joined the 7 th column, I never got called a noob, I was never made fun of because I asked a question that seemed obvious, I was just told the anwser and good day. But now everyone has to be better than everyone else and it's a load of crap, seriously, grow the heck up.

It would be a good idea to tell a moderator at least who is doing the "flaming" that whay if they contiue, we can give them some kind of penititly or warning be issued. If we're going to have an inmature community, I guess we're going to have to inforce heavy rules....

^^agreed

Count me in. When do we start the ass kicking? :D

I also was never called a noob at the 7th column. I dont really recall many people ever being called n00bs ever at the septagon prior to this update. There were people I thought to be n00bs (The "I wull j01n ur chapta if j00 joins mine h4r!" types of people) but I thought better than to even reply. I will admit I was probably a bigger n00b than most of you but it was a learning experience and instead of put down, I was helped up. I am sorry to hear you have been called a n00b but most of the people (not all) that have called you a n00b are either just 12 year olds who are the same ones that ask me when Halo 2 is coming out or if I like Halo everytime I join an XBL game or people who have been here for a few months and want to be looked at as "cool" Well this isn't middle school or high school but those kids are still loosers ;) If you need someone to kick their ass I am in. Although I probably can't do much. Just sit here and act as I can... but the moderators can so they should be your choice if they continue do be ****ing ******ds that ***k the **n *e**! L** *@*# them!

:D

The moderators might just turn into a Big Brother type person, because Big Brother is watching! (God was 1984 a boring book!)

For a forum that's not supposed to use that four letter word, this thread (and the forums here in general) has enough posts that use that word. I ain't complaining! I can read a post, or be called a name and actually NOT let it affect me.
I've yet to be called a (blank) here, and I don't expect it to happen (watch it happen A LOT after this).
The key thing to remember (it works for me, anyway) is, when surfing the threads, don't just read things and let the words dig into your head and then go spouting off something inane as a reply. Read a post, think about what the person was trying (or succeeding) to say, and think about the answer you initially want to post. Is it intelligent? Will it be taken as a joke (if that's how you mean it)? Does it offend? Is what you're trying to say clear and concise, so as not to cause confusion to the person (or persons) who'll be reading it?
All these questions (and a lot more), answered with patience, can lead to better threads in general, more tolerance for the (blank)s, and less spreading of the word I didn't write above.
At least that's my opinion.
Failing that, institute the golden rule: Treat others the way you would have them treat you.
Or: If you don't have anything nice to say, say nothing at all.

Well, there is a big difference between a newbie and a n00b. A newbie is simply a new person, a n00b is someone who acts like an idiot.

And most of these people here who are understand you, were in the same position you where in. And I hope you realize
that most of the people here who posted have sticked with bungie for a while, infact I think we have contributed to make halo what it is.Real bungie members like us do not turn new members down....We encourage them!
