when i try to instull one of them it says

16 bit windows subsystem
c:\WINNT\system32\autoexec.nt. the system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications chose 'close to terminate the application.

i dont get why they are doing this, a while back i uninstulled a few old games that i only played once and a while to save up hard disk space (cuz i was using fraps, a lot) now i dont use fraps as much and i got most of the files compresed now anyways. the disks are in good shape and there are no remains of them on the hard disk.

any idea why none of my old games work anymore?

k probally the only thing i can think of is that these games just got too old to play no ur OS, 1 thing u can try is to have a shortcut to the game on ur desktop, right-click the short-cut, go to properties, click on the "Compatibiblity" tab, and there u can change what OS the game runs in, so it makes the changes to ur OS to let the game run as if it were played on an old system, on my comp. at least it lets u go back to Windows 95. However this will not permanently edit or screw up ur comp. it just runs it for that particular application, in this case, a game, u can try this on the different OSs, and if this doesn't work then i'm out of ideas....

P.S and and whatever u do don't listen to what that guy said above me .....;!

omfg, search for it under the start button. When u found it, right clikc it and selct create shortcut. Then right click the desktop shortcut, and go under properties, and ther you go.

If he can't install them, he can't do the compatability fix. I would say google your problem and look around at some different forums. If you can't find anything, it sounds like the file has been altered or is just too new for those games to play on. If it is the later, tough bananas, if it is the former, try reinstalling windows AFTER backing up EVERYTHING. No point in deleting all your stuff just to see if the games will work.

I think the message is saying the problem is in autoexec.nt This is the file that Windows invokes to set up DOS environment variables when you try to run old ass DOS programs which Duke nukem 3D qualifies as. I get this at work when I try to run our fix utility, which was originally made for Novell. If I download my autoexec.nt from my machine to the clients it fixes the problem. Try copying Autoexec.nt from a different computer on yours and see if that works. Or Open that file with notepad or wordpad and post what it says and I'll see if there is anything suspicious in it.

I can’t find a file with the name of "autoexec.nt" but there is a file called autorun witch gives me the same message as the setup. Since this is the closest thing to autoexec.nt, how do I open it into a notepad?
