In halo CE you could actually use steath! That used to be one of my favorite things to do in halo 1, to see how many enemies I could discreetly takedown before being noticed. In halo 2 and 3 the paths are so linear that combat often plays out the same way repeatedly. In halo CE it seemed like I could approach some situations more than one way .

I miss open ended combat. Anyone else agree?

More than often; forced repeatedly. Especially in Heroic and Legendary, there is usually only one or two ways to approach most given situations without being mowed down in milliseconds.

But as for the question, Yes. It is something I found terribly lacking in the other two games.

Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

o yes, i used to love doing that, sneaking through corridors and punching people in the back. that was one of the things i missed the most from CE.

Remember AotCR? There were probably half a dozen rooms where you could go skulking about and "stealthing" it through. The Camo'd Elite was always tricky, but so satisfying.

And those Jackals, the bastards. I often just shot them all, as they would all cluster in the middle.

one of my all time favorites. i also like sneaking behind the covvies in "two betrayals" and putting them down while they were engaged, usually means a whole helluva lot of flood coming my way but still, satisfying none the less.

yeah, that made it different but a little to easy though, but it sure was fun to knock an elite flat on its back.

R.I.P. Halo 2

It is incredibly fun to go through AotCR using stealth, I have done some pretty crazy things using stealth. Clearing out entire rooms without ever alarming a single enemy, it cannot be done in the other 2, which is sad that they changed the AI in that way.

Tough, but fun. Assassinating Grunts is kewl.

Not to say it was necessary for H2 or 3. I don't think the way they played fit into stealth combat, optional or not.

Totally. I stealth through the game as much as possible, but instead of punching in them in the back of the head I usually slap a sticky grenade on their backside and wait for the Elites to scream AIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE, before exploding......nice

I also love the firefights when you are being stealthy, then get found out right in the middle of a large glut of enemies, plasma whizzing everywhere and you have to literally fight your way out of the crossfire or run like a mentalist...

By the way, I am as about as stealthy as a clumsy elephant wearing a hi-vis jacket whilst playing the trombone.

Try "not shooting". It helps. Also, patience and timing.

Trust me, I do not...having a elder brother with an itchy trigger finger is the problem..even after the pair of us playing Halo since its release (or near it) you would of thought a 27 and 28 year old would know better? .sometimes it is so bad I actually make him wait (in Halo) in the next room....he is a grenade tart aswell...

Have you tried leaving him behind? If you can get down the elevator quickly, you can kill them all before he gets down, if you're good.

Yeah I have tried that, but then he will more than likely get lost and I will have to find him..over and over and over again.....thank goodness he doesn't play Halo anymore.....

Hahaha. Then how do you keep managing to let them see you

I must admit, sometimes I am a sadist and get in the middle of a large group of Covies and announce my presence, either by chucking a grenade at someone/something (the Halo version of bashing some pots and pans in the middle of the road late at night) or doing a classic "sticky on a grunt" moment and watch him waddle towards his colleagues, screaming GET IT OFF.....then all hell breaks loose.......its good fun...
