Wait urk/lukems shouldnt the title be "Broken in" instead of "Breaking in". Or is Shishka still new enough for the Breaking in title?

He gets younger every day, so he's always new when it comes to things like this :-)

That was a very interesting read. I enjoyed all those little tidbits, and it's always nice to read more about the people working for the greatest company out there right now.

Our destiny is not frightful because it is unreal, it is frightful because it is irreversible and iron-clad. Time is the substance I am made of. Time is a river which sweeps me along, but I am the river. It is a tiger which destroys me, but I am the tiger. It is a fire which consumes me, but I am the fire.

Shishka is boss.

Proud Halo fan since Combat Evolved.

Formerly known as iamTEALC (in Halo 2) and InAmb3rClad (when H3 first came out).

I missed out on codes AGAIN....

I tried all three in Sketch's signature but they were all used.
I believe I was one of the first to find the one in Stosh's signature, that was out of order. I went through the possibilities until I finally found the right one... unfortunately someone beat me to it.
I also looked on Stosh's twitter and found ANOTHER code but someone beat me to it AGAIN.

RIP Deathpimp72 - A friend, a brother, a man who will never be forgotten. This place isn't going to be the same without you.

RIP ~B.B.

It really baffles me how much breaking in to the industry back in the day seems to have consisted of meeting the right people, or being in the right place at the right time. Many employee interviews that I've read and listened to (admittedly I haven't checked them all out) seem to tell tales of the individual being good at what they do, and just happening to meet to right people to show off to.

Being on the brink of completing University, and preparing to begin a Graduate program in computer animation, I couldn't even imagine going out in to the world looking for a job in my field without a resume full of credentials. I've talked to industry professionals and it always seems to boil down to "going to school is your best shot at being successful."

Is this a product of today's overcrowded market? Do lucky breaks actually still happen? As much as I admire what you have accomplished Shishka, and how much I aspire to land an equally successful and stable job as you, the path you took through life quite frankly scares the crap outta me. I'd never feel safe about my future, but maybe that's what it takes.

I don't know how some of you guys did it. Good stuff, nonetheless.

Brace yourself, it's about to get a whole lot chiefier in this room!

Lol, anyone else notice this?

it sits amongst portraits of such luminaries as William Shatner, Dick van -blam!-, and Don Knotts.

Dick van -blam!-, ha. The swear filter is working I see. Anyway, nice update. It was pretty cool to read a little bit about Shishka.

That really sucks.

The sad thing is that a lot of these codes are probably going to lurkers that don't even post on these forums.

I miss playing Halo with my friends.

Dick van -blam!-, hahahahahahaha!!

I'm surprised it's not -blam!- van -blam!-. Hahaha

Many bulls encompass me; strong bulls of Bashan surround me;
they open wide their mouths at me, like a ravening and roaring lion.
I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint;
my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast;
my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws;
you lay me in the dust of death. -Psalm 22:12-15

Shishka, who would you be more afraid to ban, Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris?

...and thanks for using my screenshot on the cover picture!

Wort,

I wondered when we'd see Sir Chad's "Breaking/Broken In" entry. I bet the reason we haven't seen it sooner was one of the same reasons given in H2:SE's Biography list. Ah well, there is no escaping the interview, even for the mighty Shishka.

Oddly enough, I never would have guessed you originally got your name from "Shishkabob". Also, now that we (or at least, I) know your real name, I'd hope you have some better defenses than a giant slingshot to stop a Sangheili Armada, especially with Chief in his "hushed casket". ^>"<^

Keep up the good work. Schooling is a nightmare for some, yes...I myself wonder exactly what will happen...

EDIT: How come Shishka didn't do the "FIRST" maneuver on his own page?

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

Great read. I have a similar situation with college as Shishka did, so it is really nice to see that people can pull through. :)

  • 03.05.2009 6:04 PM PDT

The one question I still have is what the hell does one ask when spending the day interviewing someone for a position such as Shishka's? As an ignorant player there doesn't seem to be that much to game design but apparently things are far much more than "implement thing because it sounds good" which many kids on the optimatch forum, including myself, seem to believe is the case for such work.

Hopefully future articles, or even podcasts (remember those!), may help remove this pocket of ignorance, though in such circumstances, when talking about cool -blam!- and good times, the last thing I would want to talk about would be the specifics of my job.

Its pretty cool that I learn in my social studies class like the amount of U.S Dollars in the world. I learn alot from Bungie that they get a certain amount of codes for the Mythic Map Pack and Shiska gets to give out Recon. So he gives it to a small amount of people because if he gave it to more people it will be less valuable. But people don't understand with there I wantz Recon. Well since i was small I always wanted to be a game designer. I got my inspiration from the Grand Theft Auto Series. I played it every day in my game boy. I remember the days.

i love recon but love my br even more thik about it if any one had recon but bungie got brs youd want that insted

hi u must get a thousand million questions about recon and it must get annoying but please just here me out for the past year i hav been looking for a way to get recon i have been told if you beat miles or take a cool scren shot youll get recon guess waht i beat miles twise and as for the screen shot thing i have over a dozen good ones. one time i even met some one that said hed give me recon for 1600 microsopht points. he seemed ligit but in the end ripped me off i felt silly after that for just giving away a 20 doller bill and i dont know if ill look back at this as silly. the ods of you giving it to me is slim but i would like to belive that the creators of such greatgames would let me earn it from you

I think I would just be better off avoiding that last stall.

I just wanted to reiterate the fact I could do a much better job than Shiska.

Seriously he's awful.

The Sentinel Beam isn't excluded from Matchmaking due to any performance concerns. It's excluded because it's ridiculous. It may as well be firing super-accelerated clowns. - Shishka

Signed stall photos are great. There must be one of Marty with the mullet though.
