Subject: Who misses Halo CE?

- Stop whining and take a beating like a man!

- Retired Halo player that came back after a couple of patches so that modding would stop, but quickly realised people don't like staying on maps anymore, rather hide up top when in the lead. I'll get you all, even though I don't superjump.

- Also hate people that double shot, because without it they lose the confrontations.

- S2I ---> 7th major clanmatch, 21st minor clanmatch.

So lets see, I've been playing Halo since....well it came out. I remember the good old days when I was about 12-13 use to play halo 4 hours a day. It was a religion to play halo. Everyone remember the falls of death? Oooo I do, i died lots until I got the trick. Moreover, anyone remember the good old warthog launching? Up on top of silent cartographer and driving around the island like a maniac? Going into the water and seeing how far you could go? See those were the good old days.

Another fun part was doing the game over and over again on legendary unaware that there was a tactic much easier than pure lead on legendary, but the fun was spraying lead into opponents until the dropped. I can't recall how many times I finished halo and redid it without getting bored.

A couple of years later came halo 2 and it also introduced me to Xbox live and I'm guessing the countless hours of gaming on Halo CE helped get an edge over my opponents in my onslaught against newcomers to the halo series and other fans of it. I remember being recruited by S2i, we loved big team. We owned big team. That is until mods started occurring online, I still remember the first day I saw one....was my day back after my internet had crashed for a 1 month or so, I sucked really bad, but when I saw a hog flying in the air my jaw dropped in amazement and all I could say is...hHhhhhhaaaaaaaccccckssssssss. The funny part was when someone was speeding and came full tilt towards me, I just pressed B and the guy flying right through me. Once against I was amazed and left with a self-explanatory conclusion that speed + melee to face = pwnt. But I guess I stopped playing...Came back 2 months later and guess what NEW EXPLOITS, I could only shrug and put my head down every time I was doubleshot and then in post-game kids would be screaming out I KILLED YOU, I"M BETTER THAN YOU, YOU HAVE NO SKILL!
All I could say was no really? You need to exploit a good game because you were never good at it? Does your score matter that much? Well apparently it did and it worked its way to halo 3.

I don't know if lots of you have played online games but if any of you have played counter-strike, do you know the exploit behind crouch walking other than no sound(which has been fixed recently). Well it was messing up your hitboxes. Now I know there must have been debated on this issue on the halo forums, but I haven't had much time to look into it. So When i'm playing Halo 3 and seeing kids jump around the screen for no apparent reason other than jumping around while fighting, it kinda clicked to me, noooooooo not this game too. And I have come to the conclusion that yes this game too.

See most people would say, go with the flow. Either you can't shoot people, or your just bad at jumping. Welllllll no, I can shoot and I can jump alot. But I don't see why so many people feel the need to do so in battles where as KEEPING IT REAL. I know this was even done in halo 2, but halo 2 seemed to have better reg ( if ur were host lol). But it seems that in halo 3, whether your host or not, if people are jumping around, you ain't gonna reg sheeeet yo. Which lead me to my next point.....

Halo CE was a man's game you see. There was no inclines or walls to hide behind. It was either you fight like a man or you die like one. But seems like adding all these little edges, hiding spots, corners and etc, Halo lost its all out epic FPS title (for me that is). It's always so disppointing playing a game just to know that the other team is hiding because they are in the lead, or fighting someone just to see him run off from you when he gets the chance. I'm like are you serious? This ain't Tag son this is Halo, come back here and die like a man. And I feel that this came alot from Halo 2, where super jumping became popular and lead to people hiding on top of maps, that was so horrid, what kind of skilled strategy is that?

Sooooo there are my rants and complaints about both games after Halo CE. Whether you like it or not, too bad. Get good and stay in the ring; as russell peters would put it: Be a man!

I'de like to have feedback, does anyone feel that halo 2-3 were better( other than introducing online play)

In Halo 3, the Scorpion machine gun turret requires a gunner.

Really, that's all I can think of.

Halo 2 and Halo 3's gameplay really doesn't appeal to me much, aside from the new graphics and online capabilities. Like you said, the glitches, the hiding, and all the extra geometry is just annoying. The running and hiding was easily countered, due to lack of hiding spots, and health made running only a partial solution; however, if you could survive to the health pack, you deserved another chance. Nowadays, you can just hide and be back at full strength within seconds.

It was a man's game, thats true (in a certain tense of the phrase) There were no hidey-holes or any sillyness, just hardcore death and destruction from all sides. Great point.

For me the Halo franchise went slightly downhill after Bungie didn't include the E3 Halo 2 New Mombassa level, then the debacle that is the Halo 3 ranking system which has galvanised and enforced boosting and cheating to new levels and also bought the "iTz" and "Br 4 ShOt" brigade out of their dank cave dwellings and into the light.

Am I the only one that feels Bungie peaked with Halo CE ? ok it wasn't perfect - it had no online features, no forge, theatre etc....but I think Halo CE would have ended up like Halo 3 if the online MM was bundled with it (although XBL wasn't around back then)

So in essence, perhaps Halo CE was saved due to it not having online MM ?

I like your post, lot of very good points, but its just a shame knowing that you are going to get some fool saying something about China and a wall....

I wouldn't say that Halo: CE was saved by the lack of good online, but it saved its reputation as having an absolutely great Campaign.

If they left out Matchmaking, then online would be great, but as is, Halo 2 takes forever, and Halo 3 is bull-blam!-. CoD isn't bad, but that is based around time spent playing, rather than who you get matched with.

the worst part is i bought the legendary pack of it, so lame to have wasted so much money. I'm looking forward to selling H3 and going back to Halo CE or moving to a new FPS title.

(Bungie > 343i)

I don't even own it anymore, which kind of sucks.

Retrospectively I think that it was, look how Halo 3 has been tarnished by the rank boosters / exp boosters / medal whoring.....list is endless.....

The current phase that Halo 3 is going through is, for me, damaging the game. A real nasty layer of players have come through boasting about ranks and judging others based on these ranks.

Now if Halo CE had online play and it did not have the ranking system of today (or had it hidden from public view) , nor did it have the toxic players that have been bred due to its existence, then yes Halo CE could be that little bit better.

Halo 2 matchmaking was a bit slow, but I hardly touched on it due to the fact I enjoy the campaign experience more as I find it more immersive.

Halo CE had a great campaign, no doubt about that....I always do wonder though what Halo CE would have been like if they have had an extra 8 months to develop the game.....hmmm

Richo, there are still those annoying and evil players playing the Halo: CE: PC version. You see them occasionally using aimbots, shutting down servers, and just generally talking smack and TKing.

The only differences I could honestly say would make a difference would be a server list rather than Matchmaking and the gamelay itself. Little kids would likely not find this game quite as attractive as the other two games because it takes effort and tatctics to get kills in multiplayer. It's not just a matter of spraying bullets in an enemy's general direction for a free kill.

I'd say the games are tough to compare. They all have different strengths. Halo 1 was the most impressive game for it's time. It had ridiculously awesome graphics, sweet story, music that sounded like it came straight form Lord of the Rings, fun multiplayer, innovative controls; it was simply AMAZING.

Halo 2 was also an amazing game with great gameplay and and a story which (To me) rivaled Halo 1 even. It was no-where near as innovative as Halo 1 was in 2001, but it still was wonderful.

Halo 3 also was sweet, but doesn't compare to the first games in a couple ways (to me anyway). The story doesn't compare to Halo 2's story and, as with Halo 2, it's not particularly innovative.

Still, I think they're all wonderful games, but Halo 1 was much more impressive in 2001 than Halo 3 was in 2007. So as someone who played Halo 1 back when it came out, no game will ever replace the memories playing the game for me, so it's prolly my personal favorite.

I have never had the chance to play Halo CE on the PC, as for some reason it never really appealed to me, don't get me wrong I play games on the PC like C&C etc but Halo CE doesn't strike me as the sort of game I would go for on that platform....but I guess no matter where you go the Idiot Brigade will always come out in force....

Little kids would likely not find this game quite as attractive as the other two games because it takes effort and tatctics to get kills in multiplayer. It's not just a matter of spraying bullets in an enemy's general direction for a free kill.

I would be inclined to agree with that one, generally the little people prefer to have an instant hit of run 'n' gun action, whereas the older generation that started with CE tend to use more cunning methods and employ tactics....

I am still glad that Halo CE has not been infected by the current trend of idiocy, so clearly found on the Halo 3 forums....(that's in remarks to the endless repeat threads/boosting etc not quality of the majority of its members/contributors)
