Um, i just recently bought Halo 2 Vista but for some reason i can only play it on low at 800x600, and i have vista 64-bit. My system specs are as follows:
AMD Phenom Quad-Core 2.2ghz
6 gb DDR2 ram
Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS (256 mb of VRAM and a 64-bit interface)

I'm thinking it's because of the low bit rate on my video card, but i just wanted to know, because i can play games like left 4 dead, which honestly look better, at medium settings, at 30 fps.
EDIT: basically, i'm getting a glitchy framerate that doesn't change at all when i alter the resolution or level of detail, which i'm hoping just means it's a known issue that i can fix

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

It is most likely because your video card is pretty weak. Low bit-rate, and it's a low end 8 series card.

having researched the problem further, i think i'm gonna have to disagree. It seems a lot of people have been having the same troubles on other forums as well. I have checked the minimums and i meet those quite well, plus the system requirements lab site says i exceed the recommended settings as well. I can play games like Left 4 Dead and Fear 2: project origin on medium settings just fine.

Happened to my when I had my Radeon X1300. Try reinstalling the game or updating your drivers

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

I'm convinced that Halo 2 was not ported, but emulated. It runs like crap on hardware that should kick its ass.

You're telling me that H2V is really software being run inside an Xbox emulator? I'm sorry, but that's not just the case.

What happened here was incompetent fools who could not write good code were given the source code to an epic piece of software.

It's pretty much Halo 2, ported to Windows, but held together by crappy spaghetti/glue code.

Prophet94

This could be due to to much frame-rate per second. The game could be going to fast for it to be displayed/processed which could cause the image to blur. You could also be playing on a low video setting on the game itself. You should also try to go online with it and check for updates.

I've done everything I can think of, from cleaning the registry, reinstalling the game, and updating my drivers. Having just recently done more research on this problem, it would appear that this is a problem with some updated video drivers, specifically Nvidia. After a certain driver number there seems to be a problem with this stuttering. It would appear that which driver causes the problem is dependent on the card that you have. Personally, I'm at a loss for what to do at this point. While this game didn't cost that much, I did intend to PLAY it when I bought it, not just set the box on my shelf. Any suggestions would be helpful, just please read what I've already done before adding a suggestion

He wasnt being literal here... He knows it's not really an xbox emulator.

anyways, if you found which drivers dont cause it why not download the older ones? Personally I havent bothered with the game since 2007 but basic computing holds true, find what works then dont mess with it.

The only thing I can think of would be to get a new card. I got a nVidia GeForce 9500 GT for about $50 of eBay, new.

Pretty sure it's your GPU, man. That thing is sad. It's a low-end card from its generation, and it's got a low bitrate to top it all off.

A good vid card is cheap on Newegg.com. You can get a nice piece of hardware for around 100 dollars.

I think its definatley your 8400GS that is the culprit.
Its one of those bottom of the barrell graphics cards with like total crap performance on most if not all newer first person shooters in the past few years.

I have used both the HD 3850 AGP8x and GeForce 9800GTX+ and never had anything but stellar performance, even with anti aliasing cranked all the way up to 16x with 16x anisotropic filtering combined with transparancy AA. Both are classified as midrange cards.
