I've been on Halo 3 since release date, and I've got a pretty decent rank (42) and I was thinking, since some people say Halo 2 takes more skill than H3, would be sticking to Halo 2 for a month make me a all round better Halo 3 player?

Whats your time?
Im no forum ninja, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Never really thought about it, I played h2 alot and now started 3. I dont think that 3 takes less skill its just that alot of the really good players have since moved on to COD, Gears or one of the other hundred games.

Halo 2 will not make you better at Halo 3.

The reason for this are as follows.

1) Auto aim in Halo 2 is rediculous, you can kill someone by simply walking left and right. The game bascially aims for you.
2) if you use button glitches then you are only going to harm yourself by becoming reliant on them. Just ask walshy.
3) The weapon Balance in Halo 2 is in many ways worse then in Halo 3. When you get attacked by that guy with the SMG you can simply laugh at him and then slaughter him and all his friends with the BR.
4) Halo 2's netcode is by far the best of the 2 games and as such you will find that tactics you learned in Halo 2 won't work in Halo 3 because of bullets not registering, getting shot through walls all the time and mass lag for no reason.

I have been playing Halo 3 for a couple months and i am a 31 skill i go into team swat and i only get like 15 kils but i go on swat on Halo 2 and i get about 25 kills a game I have played a lot of Halo 2 but not a lot of swat and i can tell Halo 2 is easier in some game types but harder on others

I doubt it. If anything, I believe playing Halo 3 may make you a better Halo 2 player, but don't hold me to it.

Why are you here?

Well I was pretty good at Halo 2 when Halo 3 came out, and I got a 50 pretty easily.

QFT, except 4. Halo 2 had just as many laggy matches in it's hayday, and Halo 3's "host advantage" is blown out of proportion by the little kids with bad connections who are too cheap to upgrade.

actually i picked up halo 2 again after a long period of playing halo 3.You know what i noticed?first of all its gameplay is alot faster.Another thing is it seems alot harder to stick people.I was surprised when i picked up the shotgun it actually killed people with one shot instead of 1 shot and a melee.overall, playing halo 3 will definitely weaken your skills in 2.I mean ive played 1000s of h2 games but now i can hardly play a decent game against level ones!If you look at my profile it will only show a few h2 games because i played h2 mainly on another account.anyway i think neither game will make you better at the other because they are both very different. They will actually make you worse at the other.

While halo 2's mostly similar, if your trying to get better at halo 3, then thats the game you need practice on. Yes they have their ups and downs and whatever but i think your best bet is to just keep playing halo 3, maybe mix up your style more here and then.
But if you can't seem to change your style and halo 2 helps you acheive a different syle of play then go for it.

A soldier should never be honored for something that was expected

well i guess so.i mean the story is different ,but besides the new weapons, the actually gameplay is the same so u play the same way.so ya u could get better by playing halo 2.

But the shotgun in Halo 3 is stronger.

umm if you try it you will only do the opposite. play h3 to get better at h2.

not if you use bumper jumper. I was a little surprised when i was playing it yesterday

  • 04.06.2009 9:23 PM PDT

Probably not... the grenades throw differently, and there is less aim-assist in halo 3.

All my opinion.

It is harder to hit targets in Halo 2 because of the increased speed, so if you can successfully 4-shot in H2 then it shouldn't be a problem in Halo 3.
