Why in the world is the energy sword energized when it is just laying around on the ground? Shouldn't it not energize until you pick it up?

<---Added--->
In Halo when you killed an elite with a plasma sword it would deenergize as he fell. It just doesn't make sense to me that it is laying on the ground all turned on.

Actually in multiplayer, when you pick it up, your character do the thing where they snap it on. The blade was there before, but it wasn't energized.

P.S. These swords don't have the failsafes from Halo 1....

yeah but if you watch in Halo the blade totally disappers when an elite drops it.

Well if you do notice, those swords in halo : combat evolved were commonly refered to as PLASMA SWORDS. where as these Multiplayer variants are refered to as ENERGY SWORDS. So there is enough of a difference to warrant the inconsistancy between the two.

Once again, P.S. These swords don't have the failsafes from Halo 1...

so let me get this straight. the covenant just decided to start removing all the failsafes from there energy swords so we can use them against them? doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. i think a better theory would be we finally found out how to bypass the failsafe. which would mean the sword still wouldn't be energized until you turned it on.
