The Brute Plasma Rifle simply wasn't too popular in Halo 2. It overheated incredibly quick compared to the normal Plasma Rifle, and did about the same damage in the same time frame. That ended up turning it into a weapon that wasn't going to be brought back. However, the Brute Spiker is almost a 'brother weapon' to the Brute Plasma Rifle. I remember reading somewhere a while back that the Spiker was considered a replacement.

guitarplyr: That, or, Halo 3 didn't need two weapons which were practically the same, except one had a tweaked firing-rate and color (lest we forget, memory on the 360--especially for a game of this caliber--is a scare resource that can't afford to be wasted in any way possible. So I doubt they'd want to waste any of that on a duplicate weapon that wasn't even necessary in the first place).

Every weapon in Halo 3 should be unique, and have their own unique niche.

And yus, I'll have to agree; the Spiker pretty much did take the place of the Brtute Plasma Waffle.

We need a madness to the method!

However, I've seen a rumor saying that it may come back in ODST, but that's a rumor.

I'm pretty sure it's more than a rumor.. Bungie practically confirmed it by saying "Older Halo players may also feel the nostalgia of the return of some of the long-lost weapons they grew up with, like the.. Ah neverming." Or something along those lines. There aren't a whole lot of weapons that they've taken out since Halo 1.. I can almost garuntee you we'll see them again.

I personally loved the Brute plasma rifle, but it was too similar to the original for it to stay around. The spiker serves as a much better and Brute-like weapon.

"To be a Gringo in Mexico — ah, that is euthanasia."

I loved walking around with a red and blue plasma rifle. That was just for fun.
