probebly the shields. or plasma caused electricity. if you know science youd know that plasma has a -blam!-load of energy in it that can be turned to electricity.

Well technically we dont know what that is, MC could have just blown up some plasma core or other destructable object on the ground. But it could be a plasma 'nade, in which case, the explosions seem considerably more destructive, electricity and all.

lazy link I think it is just a graphics upgrade. Besides woudn't charged plasma emit electricity anyways? Oh ya, plamsa is supercharged gas that makes the atoms shed electrons, as most people now, electricity is made up of electrons.

I actually think it's the jackel's shield that is exploding which is causing the 'electricity' effect.

What about lightning? Or static electricity. Air is as poor conductor, but it can conduct if it has to. As for P.G. emiting EMP, EMPs cannot be seen they are invisable, like magnetic feilds. Oh ya, how come in Halo (1), the P.G. did not effect electrical devices?

Duel pic

Here's a multiplayer pic with a plasma grenade explosion in the background. The 'electricity' effect is shown in this picture also so it looks like it may be a new graphical feature of the PG explosions.

No, Plasma is not supercharged gas. A supercharged gas is a plasma however.
