Smeeisqualityfoo, the scenario design was done by Double Aught, which consists of two members I don't know of and Greg Kirkpatrick, who is credited as the co-writer of Marathon.
I knew it was something like that =)
So the game still retains it's trueness to the original two in that aspect, the story just gets a whole lot funkier and more complicated (somehow). Infinity uses the Durandal engine, and the engine is under GNU...
The engine (source code) was released under GPL, but the data files were still owned by their respective copyright holders.
so I don't know if that means subsequent games under it are free as well or not. Bungie did release M2 as freeware as a fan-service, and the own Infinity as well anyway, so I'd say that it *probably* is free too, but I really don't know.
Yeah, that's been mentioned in other threads on this board - I haven't seen any official word so I prefer to be cautious on that sort of thing. It would be great though if the data files for M2 and Moo were made available for download for PC and Mac, as suitable for AlephOne.
I have all three, and if it is free to distribute I'd be glad to help someone who is on a PC since the PC has no hope of playing PiD anyway. Otherwise, if you own a Mac then I'd say to buy the Action Sac since you'd be getting an official copy of the whole trilogy plus PiD, which is worth the price of admission alone. Not sure about those other two games; never played 'em.
Minotaur only works on very old macs using an appletalk network - I haven't tried it on OSX but I would be supprised if it worked. Abuse is good fun, worth playing if toy have the chance. Not sure if PID works on OSX - might give it a go sometime soon.
It's worth buying the Sack if you only have a PC anyway, as you can use some utilities to get the M2 and Moo data files off the disc and play them using aleph one.
