What is a good PCIexpress AMD mobo/cpu combo that would cost less than 300$? I don't need anything spectacular, but something that is good enough to say, play Half Life 2 on high detail settings. (yes I know a good video card is going to be needed, which was also another question I had) What is a good PCIe video card that can handle those type of settings for cheap $$$?

That is pushing the budget a little bit. An asus A8N-E with an Athlon 64 socket 939 processor would be good. Shop around, the first place to go to isn't always the best.

Well the good cards will be around $200. The 6600 GT is a good one for price/performance. If money is no object, get dual 6800's. Compare the specs on the box or website, if the site doesn't show specs, don't get it from there.

the 6600 gt is very good. Its a midrange card, but can play most games nowdays. Its clock speeds are fair, and the features that come with it are great!

I would say its an upper middleclass card. There are alot more cards under it than above it when talking about performance.

Noob question: What type of ram would I need for a ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard?

DDR 400 and PC 3200 are the same kind of ram.
