There are 10 kinds of people in the world: those who know binary, and those who don't.
the first time i played halo i was at my cousins house for thanksgiving. we decided to boot up his box to play this halo game he had mentioned once or twice. it was my first time playing, but i was used to fps's, and although i hadnt really played any on ps2(my FORMER gaming platform, now a doorstop) i was able to pick up on the next gen "two thumbstick" controls fairly quickly. were playing a 2v1 ctf at sidewinder, the third person being another one of my cousins who, besides sucking with the new controls, also couldnt seem to figure out the L shape of the level, so he was next to useless. i put up a decent fight, but somewhat hopelessly. i had however begun to see how this could be a sort of fun game. I was on a ghost, and suddenly saw the enemy near the middle of the level, near the mound with the overshield, combating my other cousin. i charged in guns blazing, but it was too late, my infanty buddy was killed. he had, before his death, throw a single grenade, which i was too newbish to spot, really off aim, directly in my path. i decided to try to ram my opponent to death, giving back some of my humiliation, but then the grenade blew up, launching me into the air high above him. he backed up into the wall, drew his sniper rifle, and as i was flipping thru the air, shot me out of the -blam!-pit. but some events cant be stopped once put into motion, physics wont allow it, so my ghost, still in its large, but relatively low arc trajectory, slammed into the wall, right side up, just at head level.
more specifically, my cousin's head level. we called it a draw, but from that point on i was completely hooked, and days later i bought an xbox and halo. i just couldnt go without a game with action that detailed and in-depth. where have i gone from there? well lets just say that as far as i can tell, my signature isnt the least bit arrogant.
and by the way, i've spread the joy. because of my personal introductions to halo, i have persuaded over a dozen of my friends into getting xboxes at first if not still for the sole purpose of xbox. weekly lans, 16 player matches, tournament teams assembled from those i first introduced to the game, those most deserving of its glory. now halo and halo 2 are the core of my being.bungie...will u marry me?
