The Master Chief emerged from his code. After seeing his dynamically lit realtime shadow, he went back for 9 more months of development.

Behold the power of the Originals, the Gods Axeone-Neurone.

One thing needs to be considered when creating a weapon.

1. The weapon must be more cost effective than the defense against it.

Offense
Laser while currently expense to build and operate, may become cheaper in the future.

Defense
The defense against a laser is a shiny surface. Shiny surfaces will always be cheap to produce. This is why during Star Wars (missle defense not the movie) they abandoned using laser to knock down Soviet missles becasue they could just make them shiny.

As with Star Wars the use of other particle weapons such as neutron guns may be of better use.

a reflective surface you mean? not shiney... (or maybe its the same thing... *shrug*) but it the laser is powerfull enough it will melt the "shiney surface"

For the laser to melt it some of the rays would have to be absorbed. If most is reflected then no damage taken. Yes I should have said reflective, shiney sounds so childish. Curse my inner child:)

I was observing some of todays future armor prototypes for law enforcement, and the ARMY. It showed images of the armor, and provided some specs on what it can do, heres what I got.

1. Black helmet (matches outfit) Inside it has visual HUD, indicating if you have any internal or external injuries(this will also appear inside the helmets of his/her fellow crew), it reads the temperature of your body, and the temperature inside the suit.

2. A small water feed tube that travels from a small pack on the lower back by the ammo belt, the pack is of course filled with cold water, and the tube follows to the inside of the helmet where the soldier can drink from.

3. The primary the guy was holding was a compact rifle similar to Halos MA5B
(no joke.), on the wrist of the soldier is a small barrel like thing with I think about 4 holes, and inside them were small rocket like projectiles, possibly fuel propelled, I have no clue but it was cool. They also featured a neat tazor.

4.The suit is entirely black but on their backs were signs like SWAT, ARMY, etc.: To give examples of who could possibly use them. The article also discussed future development with the possibility of invisible like camo. You can find this article at the popular science website, I read it in the actual mag.

5. I forgot to mention the chest armor was made of an advanced form of kevlar, and the thighs were also protected by this material.

the thing with 4 barrels (holes) you mention is called the "hellstorm" (i think). basically it has caseless ammo stacked in the tubes and is fired electronically, firing all at once or one at a time, with other combos. its pretty cool but not related to halo

No where but downhill considering none of us can see what we will really have in the year 2552....yet.

you also have to realize that the army has technology in developement that is top secret and that very few people now about

And as I said before, the low technology aspect of the marines was a design choice and quite appropriate. It was in no way an attempt to indicate what the future would hold in terms of weaponry.

For example. the pump action on the shotgun was chosen because it's "cooler". I love the Ka-chuk as you pump it and if you completely empty the shotgun, right up to the firing chamber then you get a cool snapping sound as you chamber the shell.

Clips, though they are more practical, just don't have that "feel".

as all those who have vindicated that nano-technology will greatly improve materials etc - there was one clever individual a while ago in this thread that briefly touched upon the use of quantum computers.

Quantum computers, in collaboration with nano-technicians and the like will put us foward, as a technologically aware species, at least a 1,000 years ahead of ourselves had there not been any notion of quantum computer.

I wont go into the details of just how cool, and revolutionary quantum computing is - but in short it will drastically change our lives in the next 200 years.

as for all those who doubt that nano-technology will have an impact for the commercial users of the world in the next 100 years, think again.

There are already nano-tech products avaiable to those who wish to get them, from clothing, to opacity-controlled windows and screens, to body armour.............geez I could go on and on. ITs a fasinating subject if you wish to research, but just because its not in the general publics imagination or on tv doesn't mean that it isn't making leaps and bounds.

As for the weaponry - once again I am not going into details as you can research this for yourselves - but DARPA are *this* close to finishing up a Electromagnetic pulse - all purpose rifle. it uses 'raw' elctronmagnetic energy (be it, ozone, oxygen, rouge electrons) and propells it to sub-light speeds.
