I was just sitting around today reading somethings in the forum when this idea struck me. Will duel weilding really be used all that much in SP? I mean honestly, don't you like the idea of being able to toss a grenade whenever you really need to. As far as I can tell, you'd have to drop one of your guns, then throw the grenade, then if you wanted....walk back and pick up that weapon again. The thing I liked about Halo is that the game always kept you moving forward...this whole thing of stopping to duel weild again just seems pointless. All in all, it just seems like this feature will be cool in MP.

Now I know my thinking may be flawed since we don't really know all of the contol specifics yet...but don't flame me for thinking this. Just post what'cha think!

I'm kind of lazy so I didnt read all the words in your post, and I saw the word nade a lot...but my point is that dual weilding will be so badass. 1. it is only an option, you don't have to do it 2. the covie shields are taken out easier by covie plasma, therefore you can have one plasma weapon and one bullet shooting weapon to quickly take out aliens 3. havent you ever seen a john woo movie?

Okay I just realized that nade is short for grenade...

you dont have to stop to dual weild...the fact that you cant be tossin is what balances the whole thing out.

Well, I think it will all have to do with preference and strategy. I have personally found that using tons of grenades in legendary helps like no other. Therefore, I will probably not use dual wielding in single player. In fact, since I use grenades so much in multiplayer, I will probably not dual-wield at all. However, since other players use different strategies, I'm sure that many will use duel-wielding in single player and it will work.

i think duel wielding will work, you've got your two weapons, you wanna chuck a grenade so quickly throw down your weapon, chuck a grenade, then finish them off with a single gun..
Otherwise just use duel wielding to kill opponents quickly, i can see myself duel wielding thw whole way, and if you think your gonna be able to take on a duel wielder with a single weapon (unless its a strong single weapon) your probably gonna be wrong, any player can dodge a grenade!

To solve this problem of not being able to throw while dual wielding, is you switch to the next weapon set. (ex. you have two SMG's for one set and the other set you have a Battle Rifle). There, problem solved.

Wouldn't it be easier to swap to a one handed weapon, then throw a grenade? then you don't have to go pick up the dual wielded gun again...

EDIT: lol, beaten to it

are you sure they are going to have it set up like that? i thought if you went to switch from duel weilding to just a single weapon you dropped one of the three you had...or something like that

yeah. one weapon is, for example, dual smgs. press y, and you switch to, for example, a battle rifle. then press y again to switch back to smgs.

What i meant is your holding 2 SMG's and then press Y to switch to your Battle Rifle- 2 sets of different guns. What was said just above.

Something that might fix this conflict is the new weapons that we don't have data on except for reading- the Brute grenades seem to be shot out of a gun- and probably from a two-handed gun (or one! Who cares-), like the M-75 in the Marathon series. It'd be a fascinating aspect to add.

You guys are taking this a bit too seriously. You simply put away your second weapon and chuck the nade. Then you can whip it out later. I mean seriously, how long can it take someone to figure that out?

OK let me try to get this straight. In Halo you can have 2 'sets' of guns (ex. set 1-pistol set 2-AR). I'm almost positive you'll be able to still do that with dual wielding (ex. set 1- 2SMG's set 2- Battle Rifle). Therefore being able to have 2 'sets' of weapons just like in Halo.

Guys hers how duel weapons work. Example: I am holding 1 SMG and 1 Battle Rifle now if Im holding the one handed weapon i.e. the SMG and am over another one hander like the plasma pistol than I hold Y to pick it up in my left hand now its my 3rd weapon. Now heres the thing about duel weapons, if I want to melee toss a nade or switch to my battle rifle than you will drop/throw down your 3rd weapon its that easy. Thats how its going to balance those that use duel VS those who can toss nades use melee and switch weapons ok go it understand?

Here's what I'll probably do: I'll use my two-handed weapon (probably the BR) to shoot the elite, while still being able to throw grenades. After the elite(s) is gone, I'll pick up his plasma rifle to dual-wield it with my SMG and mow down all the grunts/jackals that I would want to waste my grenades on.

Really, it's all about personal preference. Some people like the endless spray of bullets, because it's impossible to dodge as long as you can keep the reticle on your opponents. Others like the area-effect of the grenade. I like a combination of the two.
