Tomorrow isn't looking too good either.

I just got my copy of Halo 2 today (I ordered both Halo 2 and CE again just to have som more variety for MP in the room, and because even though I like Halo 3 the best I'm a sucker for nostalgia) and after downloading the maps I went straight to the two I never got to play: Tombstone and Desolation.

Wow. Just wow. I had stopped playing Halo 2 by the time these came out, but I wish I had gotten the chance to play them online. Even though they are re-makes, they are amazing. Its too bad I'll never get to play them online-I don't think any of the playlists they are in have a population anymore.....

You may want to try Team Snipers. From what I can remember, Tombstone came up pretty consistently in the snipers playlist. Not only does it come up there, but Team Snipers had a decent player count the last time I checked. As for Desolation, I think Rumble Pit has this map within it. I'm not at all sure on what the population is for that playlist, but I remember that Desolation popped up every so often there.

Team slayer has them both and they come up way too much. The more you play them the more you will hate them.

I agree. Although, SWAT on Desolation is good for high multikills. And Tombstone can be fun for Snipers if your team is dominating.

I don't know. They look good for other gametypes as well..but with the state MM is in, I'll doubt I'll see any of it. Even more so since I won't have any of my rank from when my gamertag was "yugor1000".

The two worst maps ever released for Halo 2 IMO. All I ever played on there were mostly SWAT and snipers in matchmaking and it was utter garbage every time. For a map as big as Tombstone I never understood why it was used only for snipers or swat in matchmaking. Neither map shows up in BTB when both maps seems to be perfect for it. Flag games on Tombstone or BTB with vehicles on Desolation would have been great.

On another note I think Tombstone is just ugly to look at IMO. I don't understand why they remade Hang 'em High so that it took on a human theme instead of a Forerunner theme like Warlock or Lockout. The map's odd combination of tombstones, blocks and catwalks were believable when it was supposed to be an alien structure and when converting it to a human theme they failed miserably by trying to rationalize the layout of the map. The crane, soda machines, doors and storage crates were all out of place and never quite rationalizes the setting.

The problem with Desolation was the lack of variety. It's a tad too big with too many open spaces and not many ways to move around. The map is a BR fest. It dominates the map and most of the action takes place taking potshots with it across the map. The map should have been the size of Midship with more ways to move around the map like crates stacked up for players to reach the upper levels.
