Thanks everyone. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
NbRsKnGnGlR: Species 001, yeah I can honestly say that will not get answered in this story arc. Perhaps, it will be better clerified in the next (and last) book; Title pending. But as to what youll be reading next?? Some very big confrontations, some more resolutions, and even more Black Ops goodness.
col pain:Another great stage but it seemed that gravemind was killed too easily... It did seem easy didn't it. Simple answers to that, one that I'm sure you all thought but didn't formulate. This gravemind was small, not nearly as large (or old) as its "brethren". The Domadree Gravemind had a nearly inexhaustable amount of flood bodies to feed on while on Dorenth. The Sammy/Justin Gravemind didn't have such a resource.
Commander Watson: Thanks, I wanted to show guilty in a different light then from what we know of him. Considereing that he had over a thousand years of solitude and the lack of physical or mental contact could have drove the little AI... batty. lol. But simply he had a "true" reclaimer at his disposal and was told what to do, according to Protocol. Think back to how he seemed to always be curious whenever the Chief did something different, unlike what a reclaimer would normally do. In Halo 1, If you shoot at him he says the wildest things, or if you go backwards in the library. I wanted to show 343 GS in his natural element.
Scorptank: whoops... this time I think I did miss you. I saw your name but swore I had already sent you a PM. Sorry. pleasedonthateme.
As for the squad. You are correct, but since they all boarded the Rogue Fantasy, they hadn't really found the time to actually "regroup" all the divided sqauds, and platoons. A lot was happening in the space of only a few hours. In my mind I didn't see them as having the time to organize a platoon (which is what actually deploys at the lake side) and since Wesley was heading the charge, he simply labeled the Platoon Red Squad for ease. Wesley brought in roughly 3-4 squads, and some heavy artillary, and since his CO (Eric) wasn't around he didn't bother giving the platoon call sign. Truthfully, this was all in my head as I was writing in Wesley's segment, and I'm glad you spotted this, cause now I see that I didn't add it. Good eye.
And finally the good point.. what did that flashback have to do with IIWYH? There's a pattern starting for these last three stages, one that will lead directly into the last book... not a cliffhanger, but more of a lead in. I think you will all like it. The flashback segment is a retelling of what the Halo's do when they fire. The next flashback will also be at the beginning of stage 25, and it will follow the destructive path of the Halo Wave... essentially, you'll "SEE" why humans and the prophets have this massive hatred for each other. And you'll see why the prophet used the Elites as their "instruments" of destruction. A whole swell of answers are ahead... at leats I hope so. lol
Uberdawg: Palab has a bit of a histoy in the first part of the Trilogy; "Stand Five feet High". And being that he is the descendant of the grunt king (known as the grunt that killed the last Arbiter during the Grunt Rebellion), it is understandable that he is... da man.
highland brute: You bring up a very good point. I've struggled really hard with this story to not include the large Ark theories that are floating around; Killamanjaro, Africa, New Mombasa, Atlantis. I have my beliefs as to where the Ark is, but I don't want to reveal that until I am 100% sure that it is correct... and that won't happen until Halo 3. But don't let that shock you, I fully intend to write the remainder of this story in such a way that the Ark is included, yet the location will still be a mystery, AND you will all be happy with the way it is presented. Granted, I know you will want me to come out and say exactly where it is, but I'm sticking to my moral of not interferring with the Chief and Aribiter's story line. One thing I will admit though, I am sure that the Ark is ON Earth.... but I won't say where.
gruntsRgreat: The only thing that is bothering me is this new plague of rage that eric has towards the elites. All through the story he was honorable and kept his word and seemed to want to protect the innocent (rose)...and now after things are coming to a close or closer close he is gonna through away all that he has accomplished and done for the human race to fulfill a vendetta that he has somehow stowed away up until recently...I sure hope he doesn't let his rage and revenge get the best of him. This change seems sudden, I must agree, but that will be briefly explained in the next stage. It is true that Eric has been harboring some ... deep feelings, but now that things are finally getting back on track, he isn't about to let it slip away. I won't say much about it, but yes, it does have a lot to do with the death of his fellow Black Ops, especially Kim 04 (Siren), but the elites aren't the only ones he has bad blod against.
As far as rose goes...well everybody basically hated her at some point early on...but there has been a strong sense of character development and in rose's case it is humility, compassion, and a smack in the face of sacrafice. I feel like she has come a long way and is actually more appealing to me now than Melanie as far as a character (MEl is always spiteful and angry towards her when she only wants to do better and be helpful).By the end of this tale, Rose will either be the most Hated character I've ever written or the most loved. I'll give you all a brief hint, since we are soooo close to the end... Think about Rose, now think about the title...
Are you surprised?
