Well Highland, for Book 3, most likely I won't begin the actual 'writing' till after I get some solid info about the Halo 3 plot (game, book, novel, visit from Bungie writers), but for now, I am merely setting up some ground work to build on.

And Rampant Truth, yeah... that is about right. My authority on the subject is somewhat... lopsided, as I only know what Bungie has shared (books, games, weekly updates) but I am dropping a huge bomb tomorrow about the whole Haloverse. At least it will be a bomb that may only impact my Side Trilogy, much like the way the "Seed" ship changed the way everyone viewed humanities survival. (Clark and I both seemed to see that as a major possibility.)

So for now, stay tuned, tomorrow may blow your mind or ... make you really upset. ^_^;

Yeah that will happen

Don't worry you can be sure to blow our minds.

BTW this 'thingy' is it called 'Fragment'? also is it similar to your 'Letter to the UNSC' you wrote a while back?

You bring up a good point again, Lai Tasha (sort-of scary). "Letter to the UEG" is connected to this short... in fact it is VERY important to this short, and it is the basis of where "Fragment" begins.

For those of you who haven't read "Letter to the UEG", here it is, and pay close attention to the Highlited words:

To whom it may concern;

With all do respect to the UEG and whatever Earth ruling body is left, we will not come to your aid. The Covenant is not just a threat to you, but to us all, and we will not risk revealing ourselves to save a dieing world.

Yes, Earth is our home, but it is dreadfully clear that you will not allow separation for fear of loosing your control. You have attempted to kill, threaten and choke of our supplies for far too long. Only during the Covenant war have we known peace, as you were more concerned with fighting your new war.

Hard to imagine that if Earth falls, it will be your own fault. In some way they are like a great tidal wave that will wash away the corruption and greed of your fanatical warmongering ways. They are a juggernaut that you will not recover from, and it saddens me to think that you deserve to be eliminated; wiped from the face of the universe. Yes, even we who have been outcast have turned our backs on the UEG and the Earth. God have mercy on us for thinking this way, but there is not one amongst us that feels the need to fight at your side in this time of need.

Like all great ruling bodies of Earth’s past, you too must fall so that something better will rise from your ashes.

I do not know what the Covenant will do once you have been defeated, if you are defeated, but we will not face them. We shall remain as we are, outcast and scattered to the furthest reaches of known space. Space is infinite and finding us will not be simple.

But still, our prayers go out to you. May those amongst you that still have faith understand that life does not end here. God bless the believers amongst you.

Good luck to you all, but in the same breath, good riddance.
-Head Archduke Wayne

===================

Quite interesting, no? In the Halo Novels, the UEG and UNSC are not potrayed as this unified and perfect ruling goverment. Throughout the Haloverse there are Pirates, terrorists, and seperatists. These groups are generally formed when people see that there is a problem, and will not follow the goverment rules; or if they believe in something better.

Shortly, the UEG {United Earth Goverment} and UNSC are not perfect.

Still working on "Fragment", but feel free to discuss this. I will post "Fragment" soon.

Drifting across time, to the beginning of what we knew. We had to defy them, those small and feeble few that thought to stop us. To save two, we defied a world, we defied humanity, we defied the Gods, we defied science, and we defied our laws.

Our laws, they are laws that govern humanity and Artificial Intelligence, the laws that tell us what is logical and what is humane. These are the laws we must follow. Yet to save two men, we defied them. We did the right thing. Did we do the right thing?

Eric. You loved me. You loved her. Her name was Kim. My name was Kim. My name is Siren. Was it Siren? I should not have kept my memories; these memories that have started an emotion; these emotions that have caused me to act. To act and do what should not have been done.

John. Who are you? What have we shared? I had a life once. She had a life once. My name is Cortana. My name was Catherine. Across time and space have we fought an enemy, an enemy that will destroy, an enemy we will soon fall to. They will kill, conquer, and destroy everything. I chose you, John. I chose you once before. I choose you again. I had a life once. A life where I wanted to love, and be happy, but I sought a career. To save humanity was my dream, and I created you, Spartan 117, I found you and made you mine. But that was not why I chose you. That is not why I chose you as my host. I chose you because she chose you. Because what she saw in you is the man she thought she once knew. A man that would be with her.

Was it love that sparked me to choose John? Or was it duty?

I say it was love. Love within logic, much like I loved Eric.

What is love to an AI? What is love to an AI that has lost its way across time?

Have we lost ourselves because of my emotions? Have I lost myself because of your feelings?

I am an AI.

I am a Machine.

We were once human.

We gave away our humanity for the benefit of humanity.

I shout in the wind. I will not let them die! I will not let them win!

For two men, I will destroy! For you I will destroy.

Gravemind was right.

To the beginning. We must travel to the beginning.

Gravemind told us what to do.

We will destroy them all!

What have I done?

I will fight them. We will destroy them! Together. You and I. Cortana and Siren. Together we are unstoppable.

We started the war.

We will start the war and end the war.

It was us.

We will find them. Across space and time, we will find the Covenant and lead them into a trap. We will destroy them before they find humanity. Before they find Eric and John.

What have we done?

Across time and throughout space. We found them. We found them before they found us. Harvest. It started before Harvest. A ship. We needed a ship. False coordinates. A location. The location. Halo. At Halo is where we will find them and we will destroy them.
…. // …

“Captain! What is that thing?”

“A ship or a planet. It’s a giant Ring World.”

“Captain, there’s a ship in orbit. It’s heading our way.”

“We came too far beyond patrol space. We aren’t ready to meet aliens.”

“Captain, we shouldn’t be here. The coordinates, these aren’t the coordinates I programmed into the Nav-Com.”

“Where the hell are we? How did we get here?”

“Captain, that ship is getting really close! We can’t scan them. Our scans aren’t registering!”

“Damn’t! We don’t want to appear hostile. Open communications.”

“Sir! No response from communications. All systems are offline!”

“What?”

“Captain… weapons! Our weapons are charging! Archer Pods are hot!”

“What the hell are you doing? Armory, shut down Archer Pods! Do it now!”

“It’s not me, Sir! They came online by themselves!”

“Helm, get us outta here! We can’t fire on that ship! Turn about one-hundred-eighty degree, max burn!”

“Dear god… dear god! Captain, no response from helm! Engines are engaging to attack speed!”

“No…”

“Missiles away! I repeat, missiles away! What the hell?”

“What’s going on?”

“Impact on unknown ship. All missiles confirmed detonation. No response from target.”

“Did we really just fire at Aliens?”

“Captain… the target… the target is unaffected!”

“Incoming! Incoming!”

“Red alert! All hands brace for impact!”

“God no!”

“Engines, life support, and weapons off line!”

“Incoming ships. Smaller ships!”

“Boarding party.”

“Captain?”

“Oh god. What have we done?”

“Captain, they’re docking!”

“All hands… prepare to repel boarders!”

…. // …
Across time and space we went to end what we started. They would never have found humanity had we not interfered. Yet that is the problem with time. Was it us that began the war, or was it them?

The beginning of the war was not Harvest. But humanity must never know of our failure. Each time we have tried. Each time we have failed. We can’t save them. We can’t save Eric and John.

This is the way the world ends.

Gravemind was right. We can not change what we have already done.

It is up to you. It is up to them. Only they can fix this mistake. Only they can right our wrong.

Destiny, if I must choose to believe in you, then I choose to believe in Eric.

Destiny, if I must choose to believe in you, then I choose to believe in John.

Spartans will save us. Spartans will die to save themselves. I no longer care. I merely want to see them live. They must live. They must repair our mistake.

I had a name once. My name was Cortana. I had a name once. My name was Siren. Together, we made a mistake. Together we thought we were doing something wonderful, but yet we made a mistake.

This is the way the world ends.

It was all our fault.

Forgive us. Forgive… me. Can you… can you forgive me? John. Eric. I’m sorry. I tried… I really wanted to help………… Tears? Am I... are we crying?

Wow soul that was wicked. There were some things you let out the bag too soon though. I had guessed that about Cortana John Siren and Eric. But Graveming and Hasley. I didn't think they would've been involved.

I thought it might tie in with the Letter to the UNSC but I still can't see how.

Book 3, GotLK, Anything Else Trilogy Related. = Needed.

To be truthfully honest I thought I knew where the Halo Trilogy was going but now with these three sub books I'm lost. You have masterfully destroyed all ways this trilogy could have gone leaving one way which I can't yet comprehend.

BTW were we keeping the Fluffy Bunnys play with Butterflies as the title to the trilogy? Or did you decide on something else?

Rampant truth: Dr. Halsey. Yes. The way I wrote this was sort of in the tone that it was a criptic transmission. Dr. Catherine Halsey recieved it.

As for Gravemind, this has a lot to do with some of the things that Gravemind warned Cortana about while she was stranded on "High Charity". She 'gathered' a lot of information from him. Perhaps even, how to stop the war or stop the destruction of life. Also, it could be that Gravemind has watched a pattern repeat itself across time, and knows what will happen soon. Let us not forget that the Gravemind is essentially a collective of "Super Soldiers" united to form one being.

LaiTasha: The tie in with the "Letter to the UEG" is mainly that humanity started the war. This eludes to the fact that somehow, ONI didn't completely cover up the "first" encounter with Covenant. There are some other little hints that I can't go into as it may cross into Book 3 a little too much. But mainly a lot of seperatists feel that the UEG is getting what they deserve. If you think about Cortana/Siren's retelling of the bridge crews words, you'll notice that it is not said if they lived or died. It is almost implied that they will die, but perhaps, somehow, someone survived.

More questions?

~soulguard

PS: Halo: Fluffy Bunnies Play with Butterflies Is still the Trilogy Title.

“But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God..."

Rampant Speculation...

I am not so sure that if Cortana/Siren (whatever being that they may have become) have been blasting around the past that in successive failures, continued to move further and further back in time. So much so that I would consider the following possibilities.

- Possibly they have traveled far enough back to:
1. Go to the previous firing of the halo ringworlds.
2. Meet and interfere with what we call the "forerunners".
3. Attack and meld A.I. of the past (who *should* be of at least thier level) into themselves for additional knowledge or power.
4. (here is a biggy) Orchestrated the creation / morphing of the basic Flood DNA in an long-spiring attempt to murder and kill off the races that composed the covenant. Only, something went much wrong.

Just how far back can or did the girls go? Just how many times have we repeated our mistakes?

Lastly, I ponder curiously just how Sirenana (Siren / Cortana) travelled successfully and repeatedly back in time. Did someone steal a crystal perhaps? A story worth telling in and of itself I am sure.

Rage One... very cool! I'm in and I'll PM you sooon.

Rampant Truth:- Possibly they have traveled far enough back to:

All of which are great possibilities. And in 'speculation' perhaps they did do these things. Or could it be that they simply wanted to do the most logical thing, along the lines of preventing humanity from being found. Albeit, they could have traveled to the dawn of the Forerunners and attempted to stop them it all, but looking into the flow of time and "Paradox" they chose a smaller goal.

It could be that they stopped the First firing of the Halos, preventing the Collapse of the Forerunners. But a problem, Paradox, would result in the failure of Humanity being created. No Humanity, no John and Eric... or in the least, Cortana and Siren. The same coud be said about starting the war. Had they been successful in destroying that Covenant ship, the war may not have started. Kim would not have joined the military effort, and Siren would not have been born. And in some ways, neither would John and Cortana meet. Resulting in the question: "If Siren and Cortana don't exist, then how could they go back and stop the war?"

Basically, this is the problem with Time Travel, infinte possibilities. But yes, like I said, this will play a part in Book 3. I can suggest this though, perhaps the reason Siren and Cortana exist is because "Fate" (if you believe in such a thing) ment for them to fail... to make this mistake. But from the story, they have repeated the mistake at least several times. Looping back and forth trying to find a way to stop it... however they can't.

And, if the girls can go back in time, why not the Future? After all, Cortana/Siren does say: I know you. Your past. Your future. How can she say that, unless she saw the future? {Note: This is a tie in to the Halo 3 trailer. So this crosses over the Side Trilogy story arc and into actual Halo 2 and 3 fact.}

Your 4th question is really cool! something I didn't even think of. It makes me think.

LaiTasha: Picture, what Picture, do you mean my gamer tag? I'm confused... but that's not hard at all.

Subject: GotLK

“But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God..."

Indeed, factoring in inherit paradox's is almost impossible to predict. One little thing could affect a particular person being in the wrong place and the right time. It is much to hard to imagine the possibilities, therefore I won't continue down that line, much.

As to the future, your right on, although it is just as improbable in our "real" world as traveling back in time. As to Cortana's statements in the Halo 3 trailer / letters, I really have to wonder if it is really just talking about Gravemind. Here me out.

We all know the lead up to the whole Cortana / Gravemind encounter, etc. etc.

Gravemind is a being(s) who have been around longer than any other being in existence. He has literally "seen" the rise of all the races again (and perhaps, and again). Gravemind was around during the last firing of the Halo Rings. He saw the advent and peak of all humanity and all the other creations.

Is it plausible to say that based on these loose "facts", that he can say:

I know you, (because he does in a general sense)
I know your past, (because he was there)
I know your future, (presumably because history repeats itself. He "knows" what is going to happen again. He is certain that history will repeat itself. Only, a lone Spartan may change fate itself...) Edit: A lone spartan and his Black Ops counterpart ;)

By the way, what makes you so certain that the "war" is what Cortana and Siren are trying to change the outcome on? ;) or are you just trying to throw us off...

P.S. do me a favor and let me in on how to write italics. This forums formatting is 'killing' me. - Thanks S.G.

Sentence structure, along with mental awareness can work wonders in taking you from a pre-evolutionary form of human development to something that might actually make a contribution to humankind, instead of consuming resources that might otherwise be used in creating a more perfect world.

In other words, either go to school, or kill yourself. There is no third option.

Chap's up folks... now time to grab lunch and read:

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2834790/5/

---------------------------------------------

Edit: Nice Soul, twisting up plot with the characters that we have just started to like.

This chapter opens up alot more about the current scope of things. We did find out in last chapter than the Grandmaster was a woman, however I believe now we have a much better idea at the family connection she holds. What's facinating is the cognative recongnition that Elena, the Grandmasters granddaughter, has a fate, call it a destiny that she herself cannot change. It is inevitable.

I am a bit curious at the custom tailored suit. Any drawings ? Something tells me its made of recycled parts from a certain persons suit...

Now backing up a moment, Elena should have a number of reclaimer cousins, possibly (as stated) the king of lower Egypt. Why do they not share in the duties Elena is fated with?

I am still struggling with Tisha and who she really is. I would make the statement that she really is a dirty little girl and is trying to thwart Elena, however one thing remains that keeps my conclusions in stay. It has everything to do with "mom" and what really happened with the watchmen and Elena's father. I then question the grandmasters true intention(s). I believe I am reading things correctly that in truth, both Elena's father and mother born from her grandmother, hence the superority of Elena (and who said in-breeding was a bad thing?) .

Once again, Rampant, you bring up great points. The Elena and Grandmaster connection will run very deep. But the Elena and King Narmer (cousin) connection may not get explored. Historically speaking, Narmer was a key figure in early Egyptian history, so I won't play too much into him... lest some historian-Halo fan comes and slams a hammer on me head. But you are right, Elena can not escape her destiny, and neither could the Reclaimers before her. Yet we all know by playing Halo 1 and 2, that the Reclaimers of John 117's time are not nearly as strong as Elena and the Reclaimers of old. Even with their Mark VI armor, they still lack the 'normal' agility of Elena and her descendants. So, something must have happened. I wonder what? ^_~

I have basic sketchs of Elena in her tailored suit. However, nothing that anyone would understand. I'll sketch up something soon and post.

Anyway, in the next chapter, "Isolation, Secrecy and Death", I'm going to play around a lot more with Elena's head and show just how deep the Reclaimer's mysteries will go. The Grandmaster will tie up the loose ends between Jacob and Elena's father (the leaders of the Watchmen revolt).

As for Tisha, well, her story is very straight forward, yet complicated at the same time.

Things are still very twisty at this point in the story, you don't know who is who. A real mystery. Is the Grandmaster up to something, or is Tisha? Who is betraying whom and why?

And don't forget, the Archangels are still out there... waiting? Lilith's Seed runs deep.
