“But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God..."

Even with their Mark VI armor, they still lack the 'normal' agility of Elena and her descendants. So, something must have happened. I wonder what?

Uhm, Cortana/Siren. We will leave that one just rest.

Aside from some rampant speculation, I would venture two guesses:

- Gene mutilation through direct or indirect alteration or muddling (ie: having babies with someone who botches up the gene)* *which according to the current story, may not be possible.
- The Spartans of "today" are (GASP) not direct decendants of Elena or her Grandmother. Perhaps another lesser line of gene pool from shall we say, lilith's Seed or John is an Archangel as you refer to them. Only thing is, I do not have the facts on where each "family tree" is rooted from.

*Now* back to the rampant speculation stuff, If the latter were true, then it is quite possible through either extrapulation of John's DNA or through information posessed in the Forerunner A.I., that a "Super Spartan" could be birthed. It is completely possible that the true bloodline already runs thick in some yet-unknown character. Besides the fact that Dr. Hasley has been off tinkering with things for a while now.

While the circumstances are unclear, it seems both yourself, Soulgaurd, and Mr. Clark have come to the same conclusions regarding the original Spartans, both pre and initially post Halo firing. I do not find it a cooincedence that this is the case.

Love the Mystery and thick plot. Please feel free to take us on an even deeper whirlwind of twists and false truths. Despite our curiousity, keep your kitties.

Thanks SG, once again.

i think that it was just time. after a while it would be harder and harder for reclaimers to get married and have kids with other people of direct desecandt(sp) of clones from the ark, and when they started having kids with normal people the blood line was "watered down" so to speak, so each kid was weaker and slower. Of course this was at first not noticeable as time went on they were soon just seen as people who were very strong, but not abnormally strong.

excellent chapter and as bingbat said the gene pool would have been waterd down over time even if they were all originally pure then genetic mutation would have been enough over that much time to alter their strength and agility

and yeah good chapter when will the nxt bit be ready ?

Hmm. everyone seems to be getting very close... very close indeed. How close? Well, by the end of this story, you'll know for certain.

Look forward to the next chapter on Friday.

Also, if any of you haven't joined yet, The Mirratord is actually starting to grow. I have also begun adding a Duty Roster for the Side Trilogy Mirratord memember. Listing all of the Elites (and Grunts) that are currenlty assigned to the Mirratord. The list spans both IIWYH and SFFH.

And before you ask, the Mirratord group also provides more than my story. There are other fanfic writers as well.

Anyway, more soon.

“But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God..."

I am almost certain in any case that the unique contributing gene or dna sequence that allows super ability and strength was completely synthesized and fabricated to perform a specific task. Not only does this have an effect on the physical, it actually programs the very core basis of the individual. It may or may not have any direct effect on the mind of those born with the gene, as evidence by the archangels, but I wonder about those with the particular strand of humans who are protectors of the ark and later the Spartans.

The big looming question is WHO created or altered the gene/dna that created the super beings that were and now are the Spartans?

Even the purpose of doing so is shrouded in mystery. I still lean towards forerunner (whomever the original race was) being the gene tinkerer's. I believe the largest reason for doing so would be for targeting a races unique ability's for different tasks or purposes, in which some humans were selected for some kind of soldier status. Perhaps the "Marines" of the Forerunner.

I am curious as to what other effects the DNA tinkering (and with what other races) has had. Perhaps living forever has its downsides…

None the less, I keep an open mind, including the fascinating idea that our friendly computer program may have had a role in all of this.

So many possibilities eh? Great stuff SG!

no offence but isn't it stated in iiwyh and gotlk that the forerunners alterd the human genome and created the super soldiers and that we humansare descended from a mix ofarc clones and these super soldiers

so dosn't that answer ur question

i just skimmed through a chapter in IIWYH and i found something interesting. Halsley and Elder V-something were interagating the clone of prophet mercy. mercy was saying his usal speal about how human are inferior and concluded his stament saying that elites were the strongest species in the forerunner empire(thats been paraprashed, badly). The forerunner construct then said that actually, species 001 were the strongest in brute strength.

And this brings me to my new, far-fetched theory: the hunters were the original forerunners. Unless for some odd reason the forerunners decided not to put clones of themselvs in the seed ship and accepted extinction the hunters are the only logical explanation within the known species of the universe. while it is possible the forerunners have been reproduced, but they haven't been found i think that with all the exploration they would have been found.

If you read them together... it is somewhat alarming! It has sent a chill down my back when I was reading each post.

But then, if you read what bingbat has noted, the Foreunner construct stated something about specie 001; the Forerunner were the strongest. Yet if you read this, you will see something of what I am getting at about what the Flood are and how they relate to Humans:Halo: "If I were Your Hero" p334

“Please, tell us what you mean by, the flood are everything. Tell us just as you told me earlier.” Catherine walked closer to the hologram and leaned against the wall.

“The flood are an evolution of all combined life throughout the empire, with only a few exceptions. Their DNA is the direct result of a genetic mutation and eventual evolution of all members of the Forerunner Empire.”

“I don’t understand.” Captain Monroe blurted. “Is it saying that… we are the flood?”

The hologram turned to face Captain Monroe, “Yes. Species 011, Reclaimers, are also a part of the genetic makeup.”

Keep it coming... this is getting good.

well does this mean that brutes cant be infected by the flood? becuase the brutes were brought into the covenant by the prophets and were not mentioned, if i recall correctly, to be in the forerunner empire. Becuase Johnson was not infected by the flood becuase the amount of radiation in his body, it could mean that flood can only infect humans/elites/anything with a similiar gene makeup as the specie's who created the flood genes.

Actually that is a very good question, bingbat. So far, according to game and novels, there have only been Elite, human and grunt forms of the Flood.

It is often speculated (rampant) that jackal's are also immediately turned into Carrier Forms like grunts, but there has been no solid proof of this. I believe that Jackal's, Brutes, Drones, and Hunters.... somehow were excluded from the flood gene makeup. However, if you think back to the Prohpets Mercy and Regret, they also avoided becoming flood forms. Regret was assimilated by Gravemind, and Mercy was attacked, penetrated but not "taken".

Speculation could very greatly. Brutes could be later evolutions, meaning they did not evolve until after the Halo's fired... but the Prophets?? A good question.

Wait a sec...you're saying full pages, typed, 12 point font, single spaced? And its 454 pages?! wow...in a way, that's amazing, and in another, it's pretty damn nuts when you think about it.

Haha, totally. 12 font, single spaced (except for chapter breaks, double).

It blew my mind when it hit 400 pages, and the story just kept going. But a lot happens in the story, so those who have read it can understand it's length.

The main characters go from New Mombasa - Egypt - Mars Orbit - Elite Homeworld - and back to Earth.

Sounds wild, but people oddly enough liked it. lol

Yes it is, Highland. And by now, it is well hidden from the eyes of the world, though soon enough, I will reveal what happened to it.

And how it was found ...

.... in 2552.

Whoops... I think I just spilled a secret. I'm bad at giving hints.
