“But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God..."

"And yes, I will show how the lineage continues. Though it will not be what most of you think."

Care to give us a hint at what we should be taking a stab at? I am guessing you will run things by your own rules and keep things in line with halo/lineage and accuracy, but throw us just a rough idea of what we should make a guess at. It is much to broad for a casual (halo) reader to even begin to grasp :)

As to the commentary and theorizing on the flood. I kind of wonder if the effects of the flood / flood dna are targeted specifically towards certain races/beings (aka: humans, forerunner, etc.) during the theoretical phase in which the treatments using the flood dna were applied. Meaning to say, I wonder if certain races due to class, rank or other reasons had the "right" to be given the benefits of the treatment. As suggested by some authors, there were underclass races and leading races in the entire forerunner empire.

On the other hand, the more likely reality is that the "treatment" was for a sickness (ala Clark) or something that afflicked only the races that in current day (halo) are mutated or accepting of the flood dna.

It only gets more interesting with the concept that tinkering to the flood dna/creation was done by an outside party during the rule of the empire. An outside party, possibly not of the time.

hmm.. a hint. A hint about what you all may or may not be thinking. Fairly tricky.
I would say that if you are thinking that the lineage of the Reclaimers is based on the Reclaimers themselves, than there is prospect that you could be wrong. While if you are thinking that the lineage of the Reclaimers is based on humanity, than you might be wrong as well. A Reclaimer is a Reclaimer, as a human is a human. But in the end, a Reclaimer is a human and therfore, one might surmise that a human is a Reclaimer, so the Lineage might continue if humanity strives onward. Savy?

But moving onward, the idea of the Flood being designed based on certain DNA/gene is something that I also worked with in IIWYH. That the flood themselves are a combination of several strands of DNA from members of the Empire. I have yet to say if it were a cure (clark) or a weapon, but that is something I am hoping to touch on as Book 3 enters it's development.

So, without further adieu:
Book 3 update
With "Guardian of the Luminous Key" slowly reaching its end, my mind is slowly shifting toward preparing for Book 3. There are certain things that must be included in the story, and I'm going to share them with you.
* What are Siren and Cortana going to do against Truth's Forerunner Ship?
* Why is there a "Seed Installation" on Earth, and its connection to the Ark?
* The remains of High Charity streaking toward Earth
* Kelly's role as a "True Descendant of the Reclaimer's"
* The Mirratord's fate
* Eric, Rose and Melanie... a love triangle?
* Ackersons connection to retrieving the Earth Crystal, from the remains of Delta Halo.

Mind you, some of these things may need to be tossed out as Official Halo book 4 and 5 are released. We may learn more interesting situations that could affect the flow of the story.

Lastly, the title:
"Halo: Path of Reclamation"
Halo Side Trilogy Book 3

What do you think? It's a working title, and could change.

“But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God..."

I was hoping we would hear from you sometime soon Soul. I am going to have to stir over your description of the reclaimers. I think I understand what you are describing. Most certainly, whatever the original reclaimer (race) is, it is an add-on to existing human dna. Maybe not? Just how big is all of this... Like you said, it is not all inclusive to the rest of the human race. I am not sure of what to make of what the current Spartans really are.

After all, if someone *very much still a theory* created the flood through gene manipulation, why not a reclaimer?

"Reclamation"

"the recovery of useful substances from waste products"

"rescuing from error and returning to a rightful course; "the reclamation of delinquent children":"

"the conversion of wasteland into land suitable for use of habitation or cultivation:"

"Reclamation"

"the recovery of useful substances from waste products"

"rescuing from error and returning to a rightful course; "the reclamation of delinquent children":"

"the conversion of wasteland into land suitable for use of habitation or cultivation:"

Now, this is a section from GotLK part 6:
....
“Proof?” The master returned. “Proof of what? I was never permitted to enter the Ark or to absorb its knowledge, yet I do know the secret. There is no proof. My Son guarded the Ark, he told me its mystery. The flood have yet to come, and if they have not come, than we have nothing to fear. The Ark is being wasted. It is time for the Reclaimers to do their duty!”

Elena sat back, stunned. “But now is not the time … the world is not ready, and there have been no signs yet!”

“We are Reclaimers, Elena. All of us, from the Watchmen to the normal humans, we are all Reclaimers. Our duty is to rebuild the Empire, and that is why we were spared from the great cleansing.”

“You do not know the fullness of what is out there, beyond our world!” Elena sternly interjected. “Humanity is not ready to be reunited with the other members of the Empire! How much did my father tell you? Surely you did not understand it all.”

....

“For too long we have been ignoring our duty. This is what Lilith sought, yet she was too impatient to wait for the right time. In her day, humanity numbered only a few, but now we control this world. We have spread humans across the planet, though some believe that this small speck of land is everything, that this is the world, but we know the truth. We are ready to unite, Elena. Do not follow your mother’s path. Side with us and lead our armies as we begin our quest. It is time for the Reclaimers to rebuild the Empire.

The puzzle of the Reclaimers, at least in my tale, is very clear.

Now From IIWYH:
...
“I downloaded various things from your core. I must admit, the wealth of knowledge and the history of the human race; simply splendid knowledge. It is no wonder you and the reclaimers failed to maintain protocol. It appears that you had no previous knowledge of the Forerunners until the Covenant-Human war began. Somehow, you all forgot. It does appear that species 004, the prophets as you call them, were aware but it took them a great deal of time to find you and build an army. Even now they fear you, and worked diligently to build a force large enough to eradicate you all. The construct, Cortana, is where you learned about most of your covenant and forerunner knowledge.”

....

The hologram appeared at Catherine’s side, “Yes Doctor Halsey? I am quite busy with this Gravemind creature, but how may I be of assistance?”

“What was our status prior to being selected as reclaimers?”

“Species 011? Oh, you had no status. You were very barbaric, much like species 005; the Sangheili or elites as you call them. You were a war faring society when we encountered you and brought you into our fold.”

...

“As I was saying, you were test subjects for our various researches for many years. Soon we discovered that you had a purpose. Unlike Species 004, you were very adaptive to numerous environments. You could clearly think and solve problems. However, it was the destruction of your home world that caused us to view you in another manor.”
...

“No, Earth is alive and well. It’s our home.”

“That data is not present.” The Keeper repeated. “One moment, I will see if I can access the data from the construct’s memory. Ah yes, Earth… my word. Current star charts and recorded visual references reveal them to be the same world. Most intriguing that your world survived such a disastrous event. But there is no data present that explains how Earth survived.”

This is all present in knowledge so I don't mind sharing more info if needed. Basically, Earth was Destroyed, but Litran and Bitran used the Ark to Repopulate the world. As for the Reclaimers... they were the victims of a Forerunner "test", which occured after Earth was destroyed, and then given a "purpose". What is a species to do when their world has been destroyed? Remember how angry the Prophets (lawkeepers) where at the humans, a deep hatred for taking their place as the Forerunners favorites. Jealousy.
After all, the Forerunners studied humans and then watched their world die, so they perhaps felt the need to give them some form of apology... like welcoming them into the Empire, and giveing them more praise then some of the other species.

That's a lot to take in.

Questions?

Phoenix is dead, long live Phoenix!
Is it?

I go away for a while and look what happens.

Well my trip to Australia was not in total vain. I...
-Found a book store while Halo First Strike in it.
-Read chapter 5
-ate lots of chocolate.

Im not much of a theory person, But the points that you guys made were awsome.

Question 1
Soulguard did you get the title for GotLK from Halo-First Strike? It calls the captain of the Ascendant Justice the Guardian of the Luminous Key (...) I suspect from the epilogue (H: FS) he is the arbitor.

Question 2
How many more chapters for GotLK are there?

Question 3
How are you going to tie this in with Halo 3? Bungie is sure to go out of the way to fool everyone for the plot. Even though this is a side trilogy I have a fealing they will drop in a sentance like "The ark is the only facility on earth." to destroy you seedship theory.

Awsome chapters soulguard cannot wait for the next one.

Welcome back!

1) Yes. I thought the name was nice... and since the Elites worked with the Prophets, then they were no doubt talking about hte Crystals. Plus this gives us a bit more of a connection with the Covenant, or at least how the Covenant is structure.

2) Two more chapters (3 at the most, but not likely).

3) The seedship theory is... farfetched. But I have a "hunch" that things will pan out nicely. However, I did say that the Ark was the only source on Earth, however there is a Seed Installation underground on Earth... but like Catherine Halsey said in IIWYH, "It is much older than the Elite Inner Sanctum".... I'm eager to see how this will work out. But as of right now, I'm being hopefull that my side story is on track, and avoiding anything major.
As long as Bungie leaves the door open, I'm in the clear.

New development with the next chapter. It is complete, yet I find it somewhat of a hard read. It is very bloody and short. I mean reaaaaally short. So far, it is under 10 pages, which would make it the shortest chapter thus far. But this isn't the problem, the problem is the content. Very little happens here, but it all fell into place just as I had planed, yet when I read it I find that it is ... well... I don't know how to describe the sensation.

For the past two years I have not written a chapter that has made me feel this way. I have had bad chapters, stuff that I wish I hadn't written, but this chapter isn't bad or good.

It's an oddity that I've never encountered.

I'd really appreciate detailed reviews, cause I can't put my finger on it, but this chapter made "me" think... and as the creator of the story I was blown for a loop. I knew the story was going to take this path.. but well... I don't know what to make of it now that It is on print.

I'll let you all decide. Look for it within the next two hours over at FF.net

Phoenix is dead, long live Phoenix!
Is it?

Soulguard, I know what you mean. This might not seem to be that great a chapter but after reading it I can't put it fully out of my mind. There was this quality, this mysterious, powerful quality that seemed to make this chapter more than it is.

Quicky before I go indepth. ~ “Poor child.” The man stated as he knelt at her side. “I have found here!”

I will split this chapter into four parts - pre falling - apres falling - Egypt - Conclusion

Pre-falling
This part of the chapter seemed a bit contrived, a bit over edited. I feeled as though Elena was a bit too weak here, in the last chapter elena killed 500 trained men very easily, whilst here she was finding it hard to kill 10 specially trained men. I found that it made Elena switch from the offensive (500 men) to defense (10 men) in the blink of a chapter start.
~ Mabey a small intro for this part?

Apres-falling
The memoirs whilst she was face first in the mud were all they needed to be, this is what made the change believeable. The tie in from the prievious chapters was amazing, the word choice made it very religious.
Elena's return to the fight made this chapter different, Elena had an ethereal yet possessed feeling that set this chapter apart. After much deliberation the animalistic characteristic is what kept me thinking about this chapter. The animalistic characteristic made Elena feal as though she was in another plain of excistance fighting with the angels. The death of the grandmaster though an anti climax was fitting, a fight would not have worked and her surviving would mean certain death for elena. Overall this part tied in with the symbols, themes and motives in GotLK, The religious aspects of this sub-story were present though not obviously.

Egypt
The third part of this chapter helped tie up some lose ends and gave way for the shocking conclusion. The tisha factor in this part fitted in with the pharoh and jacob showing the depth of her knowledge.

Conclusion
I loved the respect of Tisha, and the fact that she would pass into the afterlife as a queen. it was honourable. Then the shock, Elena isn't dead (there anyway) I didn't expect it. It allowed all sorts of questions to arise.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next chapter.

What I was trying to convey was that she had hit her "natural" liimit, and peeked in the midst of the battle. And that these men were essentially wearing down her stamina and toying with her. She had been fighting for nearly an hour none stop and her natural strength was already drained. I do intend to give a little more info on this in the final chapter ... if Elena is dead or alive.

Tisha has/will do a lot for the Reclaimer tribes as far as doing her duty, but ultimately she saught revenge for her families death, and the ripples she has started will last for a very long time. Her ability to inspect a situation and use it for her advantage was staggering, and in a sense she was the reason why the Reclaimer Watchmen war has ended. But again, more shall be revealed.

Update
Secretly I've been working on something for IIWYH... as I've told some of you, I started editing IIWYH about two or three weeks ago, and the joy of revisiting that story inspired me to draw up a group character page. It is only in the rough sketch phase at this point, but I'm working on it slowly. I hope to have it completly penciled and scanned by next week. It will show Eric, Rose, Kelly, Halsey and Simyaldee. Sorry, no Palab at this time... I want to do something even cooler for the Grunt Messiah. I'll post the pencil sketch and then the full color sketh shortly after.

GotLK, the final chapter is under works. It will be longer than the last chapter, that I promise, and will tie up any major loose ends from before. Plus, as I promised, it will also detail how the heck humanity has kept the Ark... as one of the worlds most closely guarded secrets.

Oh Yes... the ARK was found and has been protected for hundreds years. And ONI is corrently overseeing its protection. Let's not forget that in IIWYH, they had 2 doors to defend while they were trapped inside the ONI lab beneath New Mombasa...

"If I Were Your Hero" Chapter 1
...
Eric: “Okay maggots, let’s do this. Get inside the main facility and hunker down, this tunnel is the only way in from the building upstairs. Joe, take some troops and secure the back door, it’s our only escape route, but I don’t think the Covenant know about it. I want GP turret guns in this tunnel and hard shell’em. Get some bunkers out here. There’s some bugs at the door and they aren’t coming in, move, move, move!”

Just a little after thought to wet your whistle. Plus a sneak peek into the beginning of book 3.

The final chapter has been finished. As of now I am reading, editing, and touching up anything I may have forgotten. I think you will all appreciate the ending, as It ties things up nicely... including it's connection to "If I were Your Hero".

This isn't an action chapter, but very engaging. I think you'll all enjoy it.

All seems okay so far... I guess everyone is content.

Highland Brute: pretty good but how did the watchmen find the ark in order to bury it didn't elena send it away ? She did send it away. Yet, at the end of the story we find out that Narmer, is "somehow" manipulating things from behind the scenes. His grip over Egypt (mergeing upper and lower Egypt) makes him a powerful leader during this time period. He is also one of the Grandmaster's descendants. Under him are Jacob, and Michael. Michael was the Grandmaster's disciple and personal bodyguard, yet she was unaware of his loyalty to her son. The Ark was found as it was burying itself near the grandmaster's village. Michael knew of its location and since he survived the battle, he most likely told Narmer... and the rest is history.
