Ok, Wrath of Achilles recently brought up the first humans showed up 100000 years ago and GS is 101000 years old. which probably isnt a coincidence. I can further this theory by speculating that maybe in order to escape the halos the forerunner de evolved themselves into primitive humans. perhaps the reason they chose earth is that earth is their homeworld, however, the reason they didnt leave a whole lot of tech like they did on covie worlds was that they thought human/forerunners would be ready to use it when they discovered it themselves on other worlds, perhaps in starting from the ground up we might be able to fix technical bugs, mc's armor being better than forerunner copied elite armor is a prime example. If the humans weren't intelligent enough to be picked up by the Halo scanners they would be safe.

process: perhaps the forerunner used time altering effects on their DNA such as the Reach crystal to make their species go back in the evolutionary process, perhaps they hoped that humans might find the crystal and use it to restore their "godhood" which is why the covies wanted it so bad and why it was called the "discovery of the millenium" as well as mc being somehow destined to come in contact with it because as the greatest/luchiest human warrior he had the best ability to return the crystal to earth.

additional thoughts are welcome.

an okay theory but I don't think humans have anything to do with forerunners.

covies arent glassing earth right away, theyre invading it, which can only mean one thing, forerunner tech. Mombasa is in the area of some of the earliest human fossil remains. Which is probably the origin site of the forerunner "arc" Therefore it wouldnt be unlikely that covies are interested in the area thus the New Mombasa mission.

perhaps the covies know we are forerunner but see us as a sick, deformed, insult to their memory?

or perhaps the forrunner dont want to destroy the flood because they are simply a twisted form of forerunner

Humans have been around more than 100,000 years. Neandertals were around over 250,000 years ago.
Some even speculate that neandertals came from -blam!- habilis which was around 2 million years ago.

Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

I quote GameJunkieJim:

-blam!- Sapiens first appeared on this planet about 100,000 years ago HALO and presumably the others that would follow suit fired appx. same time People to point out, Halo would have killed everything. The strata of the earth would even support this, as scientist that believe we evolved from -blam!- neanderthalensis are still trying to find links but the record stops at around 100,000 years ago. See a pattern?

In still pushing the idea that because of the ring's effect on the surviving Forerunner, (or should I say those who were supposed to survive, come on if they can build the weapon why not be able to build something that can shield them from it), they had alomst complete memory lose or maybe even brain atrophy. They reverted to an ignornant beast almost and had to re-evolve. One might argue why not make a lot of these sheilds then? Perhaps there wasn't enough time due to the Flood spreading... also one may ask why would you make a shield that makes you turn stupid and lose your intelligence? Maybe this was a side effect, or a flaw they did not see. I doubt they relaly tested it since the Halo's were only fired once and so they had to build it with hopes it would work 100%, seems it only kept them alive... so it was sorta a success. I can't remember who, but someone pointed out why if we are the Forerunner why would the Covenant be after us? Well because the Prophets don't want to lose thier power. As of now they control the Covenant, they are the leaders, what would you do if you realized that the REAL Gods were found, would you not want to eliminate them so you can remain in power? This may explain why all of a sudden we were attacked... the Prophets got scared and want us gone before the rest of the races find out the truth and or before we re-discover ourselves.

or perhaps the reason they "destroyed themselves" was that it wasnt they who triggered the halos, perhaps some non forerunner, possibly flood, triggered it as a previous "reclaimer"

wait, doesn't halo just target things with sufficient biomass, not intelligence?

only if the genetic code of the biomass object is in the database like the index. perhaps the forerunner's ability to change their genetic code wasnt yet perfected and they wound up as early humans

And yeah, Opey could probably win that game without using his BR. Best SMG user in Halo.

Yeah, maybe the covenant know this and that's why they want to destroy us, because we are a deformed version of their perfect gods. Therefore, we are not worthy. They don't want to worship something that is inferior.

now that I think about it, maybe after achieving a monstrous result of genetic tampering such as the flood, they chose to use the crystal to make their genes regress rather than mess with them as they had the flood.

I doat the covies now were the forerunners

I'll just throw this in there...

When asked how long he had been on Halo, 343 GS remarked on page 238, "Exactly 101,217 local years."

When Eric Nylund, the author of Halo TFOR and FS, was asked how long a local year is in an interview at HBO, he replied: "The time it takes a planet to make a complete revolution around it's local star."

So, since Threshold's local star isn't our sun, that means that the time it takes for Threshold to make a complete revolution around it's local star would be completly different than the time it take Earth to make a complete revolution around our sun. This means that years on Halo could be much shorter or much longer than the years here on Earth:)

ah but perhaps part of how the halo ring maintains its climate is its distance from the sun, since it has an earth climate it would have to be roughly the same distance from earth earth to sun as halo to the threshhold sun and therefore have a similar rotation length

Technically, they maybe just invading Earth to take out the orbital gun generators. But forerunner tech sounds better :)

And to the original poster, it was 101,000 local years. We have no idea how long a local year is...it could be as long as an earth year, it could be a million earth years.

Not all stars are the same. Some burn hotter, some burn cooler. Some have higher gravity, some have less gravity.
