I heard my friend say that the Pistol was unbalanced in MP because of time issues. He said that someone in Bungie even came out officially and said that the pistol was indeed not intended to be as strong as it is. Can anyone discredit or prove this?

Does he mean time issues as in Bungie didn't have time to propperly balance the pistol?
That would be quite a good explanation. Could also explain the underpowered needler (which by the way is a minted weapon for killing people in the back).

Yeah, thats what he meant. I think the Pistol is fine how it is, IMO, but others who aren't so Halo enlightened think its too cheap for its own good. It takes a lot of practice to get good with it. If you got the skills, use em. As far as balance goes, running up on someone with an AR and smashing them in the face will ALWAYS kill them in about 3 seconds flat. Its all about getting the jump on your opponent along with the footwork.

I think the pistol is too powerfull, I hardly ever see anybody (including me) use anything else which is a shame really as there is a good range of weapons.

I blame this not on the power of the Pistol, but on the inaccuracy and speed of the bullets on some of the other guns.

I'm guessing that the AR and shotty are the inaccurate ones and the plasma weapons, needler and (to a smaller extent) the sniper are the slow bullet ones. I think these are relevant weaknesses but the problem with the pistol is that it lacks any weakness (in the right hands) other than it being ineffective at long range.

How far is long range? I routinely kill people (especially on Hang 'Em High) from anywhere on the map no trouble. The hardest part is factoring in gravity, but that is easy, just stick their head (or the top of the blur) on the very bottom of the crosshair.

I'm talking about when only a sniper rifle will do. I agree that there is no open area on Hang em High that is safe from the pistol, that map is a respawning nightmare.

Yeah, I know what you are talkin' about. Besides sniper rifle though, it has the best accuracy, and if you don't shoot me quick with a sniper rifle and I see you, its all over.

If I miss with the sniper then I just run away, it's cowardly but the guy I shot at often takes the bait and I shoot in from a different position.

As for the pistol, it's been suggested that to make it more balanced it could have the scope removed, any thoughts on that?

I think it would be good, but 9 times out of 10 I don't even use the scope.

Yeah, if they shoot me out of the scope I hardly ever bother putting it back on. If it wasn't there in the first place it would lower the accuracy over long distances (in terms of the pistol) to a more reasonable amount.
