Subject: Why did these "combos" stay in Halo 2? [QUESTION]

Jump feet first into hell!

Hello everyone.I played all halo three games , although never played halo 2 multiplayer (well some ten games some three years after its release) .

So i wanted to ask some of you that have been following since the release.

Why were all these combos such the double shot and BXR left into the game?
I read in a site the they appeared after the first update. If so , that means that they could be removed the same way the got in.

Is it something bungie liked? Are you supposed to be a cheater if you use them?

They had been in the game since the release. The double shot wasn't discovered until after the update and the BXR was useless until after the first update.

They couldn't remove them because they were too embedded into the hardware of the game. Trust me, if it all it took was a simple update then they would be gone.

Um, because combos are seriously awesome? H2 would have sucked without them. That's one of the reasons H3 isn't that good.

Combos widen the skill gap.

Wow. You're ridiculous. Button-mashing? My guess is that you just didn't like it because better players owned you with them. If they take no skill, then I want to see you quad-shot someone in the face.

Buddy...if I wanted to play a game where rapid button combos decided the outcome of a game or match-up, I would've played a fighter, not an FPS.

The Button Glitches in Halo 2 are cheating, plain and simple. Hell, the ToS basically spells them out as glitching and cheating.

It didn't widen any skill gap- it just gave asshats a new way to grief other players.

Despite what Bungie said about the combos, they are not cheating. The combos did not make the game a fighter, they added depth and variety to it.

Seriously, most of the people who played the game an average amount knew the combos and could do them if they wanted to.

You obviously have some sort problem with the button combos, and I'm not going to even try to figure out what it is. You are not normal and have a skewed perception about video games and possibly reality.

Or I read the ToS and listened to what Bungie said about them. Not only does the ToS basically spell the button glitches out as being cheating, but when the game's developer basically comes out and says "Yeah. These button glitches are cheating. Its a bit too hard to fix them without possibly breaking something else, so do your best not to use them." you should take notice and have the decency to not use them.

And yes, I played more then enough to know what the glitches were-I did however go out of my way to avoid learning how to do ANY of them to be able to claim plausible deniability. I don't cheat in games of any kind-and I don't have a skewed perception of reality.

Wow. Bungie suck-up eh? Anyway, mastering button glitches such as the double shot was what made Halo 2 a great and BETTER game than Halo 3.

No. Its called "honor and integrity". Its this little thing where you don't do things things that are wrong or underhanded even if you could get away with them simply because they are wrong, even if everyone else is doing them. Sure I could've done the glitches in Halo 2 with ease-but then I would forever lose the right to say "I don't cheat" and I would forever be a hypocrite for doing something I admantely ty to dissuade people from doing.

Of course in an era where sportsmanship and honor are going out the window simply because it doesn't serve people's needs I can see why people would have an issue with this.

RIP Halo 2

Ah, the classic argument of whether it's cheating or not. Still hasn't gotten old after four years.

Oh that's just priceless.

Despite the people who both designed the game and enforce the rules defining it as cheating, your personal subjective whim overrules it. Hah! You kids are a riot.

Defibulator

Button glitchers should have their consoles smashed over their own heads, and then rammed up their ass. After that, their parents should toss them out into the street to be run down by a four year old on a tricycle.

If it's so bad, then why do every single MLG player use them?

Just remember this is a GAME and button glitches did widen the skill gap. I would love to see them re-introduced to Bungie's next game.

  • 04.04.2009 7:34 AM PDT

Button glitches are in halo 2's engine and are impossible to patch.(same with super jumps) If they could have been patched it would have been done long ago.

Combos make those with little skill appear skilled. The truth is, you're cheating, and if you think having to use glitches and cheating in matchmaking makes you better, you really are delusional.

Bungie plays a different game than what some other people play. What Bungie deems is fair play can be considered the opposite by other players and vice versa. In the end it's the players who are playing the game not Bungie or some ToS that ultimately decides what's accepted.

Except the ToS pre-empts everything in every game ever. Since you have to agree to the ToS before you can ever play online at all, what the ToS deems as fair or not fair is the deciding factor, not player opinion.

And since the ToS also says that the developers of the game have power over what may and may not occur in their games, when they say something is cheating, the it is cheating. There is no little technical loophole out of this one.

Leaving cheating feedback is all the recourse you have and ultimately the players leave that feedback so it is player opinion.

This is how you can tell somebody is a good Halo 2 player......because they recognise combos widen the skill range. Thank you x Encounter x for not being and idiot and realizing how much of a better game Halo 2 is.
