So, i have recently come out of hiding. Mainly, due to boredom. I have not posted terribly much. However, a friend of mine mentioned me today that I should be banned because he thinks that all of my posts since my re-emergence border on spam. However, he thinks that the reason I have not been banned is because of my Mythic status.

Now, as I've not come to the forums for quite a long time(to me), I have no idea if this seems to be a plausible, prevalent phenomenon.

What do you think?

EDIT: argh! accursed character limit in the title bar!

Sometimes the elders of the forums seem to be given a bit more leeway by the moderators, this is true. This, however, doesn't mean that they won't be punished; it just means that the more minor infractions will sometimes be overlooked. Do something bad enough and you will always be punished.

EDIT: These members aren't given more leeway simply because they're Mythics or whatnot, it's generally because they have gained themselves some respect and the moderators in question know that they're generally trustworthy, intelligent people. A blowout here and there, thus, is usually able to be overlooked.

(This, by the way, is based on a collective knowledge of what mods have said in the past... this is in no way proof-positive accurate.)

My Best Bungie moment: finally beating all the Halo games on solo legendary.
My Worst Bungie moment: not seeing giant stuffie grunts in the Bungie store.

I hope they are not more tolerant, no matter your status everyone should be treated equally. If anything long time users should be punished harder because they have been around long enough to know the rules.

I would hope not. We are all members, and I've always spoken out against the whole title system in itself. I would be happy if we all were just titled as members. There is no need for special treatment.

Glad that Halo 3 garbage is dead, thanks to Reach.
Unfreakenbelievable!!

I, personally, trust Mythic status members more; well, anybody that's higher than a Honorable member. I don't even trust myself. : )

But, your history on this forum is a good reason to trust someone.

However, if a Mythic status member begins to troll forums, I am sure a mod would not stop at banning him. But, if you are a Mythic status member that does that, chances are you are trying to get banned just for fun, or derank your status.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but wishing doesn't make what you wish for true. Member titles are a gauge to the moderators on the trustworthiness of the member in question. I wish that they weren't there as much as you do, but wishing doesn't work, as I said before. They're here, and their side effects are going to remain as long as they do.

(Remember, this is based on what I've gleaned from a few moderators; I could be wholly inaccurate, and most likely am for several particular moderators)

The Frozen Minority; Bungie's real underground. The oldest members, the deepest controversy, walking infamy.

It comes down to this - is removing this person beneficial to the community? If someone posts amazing threads 90% of the time, then trolls 10% of the time, chances are I'll give them chances.... >_>

Most mythic members are long time institutions in the community, they're important to withold the sense of community and they're part of the experience. So that has a bearing sometimes.

But as soon as they cross the line, just like anyone else, they're gone.
---------------------------
That's how it used to be, actually. Back when I recognised the mythics and being mythic wasn't a blue title bar but reputation and influence. Now I don't really know mythic from regular.
The Ninja's of today are less involved with the actual community functioning; posting and contributing and whatnot. I feel much less weighted than I did in the past. Nuking threads in 2006 would lead to people blocking each other over MSN, ugly XBL encounters and destruction of friendships - but now I'm distant enough, unknown enough to not step on toes.

So no. We were always pretty impartial, or tried our best to be (inb4 snide comment by elmicker or Shai), but it's easier nowadays.

I haven't seen a Mythic member blacklisted.

Because they don't do anything to deserve that.

Batzer was just blacklisted the other day,and he was Mythic.

Although there was something fishy to me about it,his post was way out of character.

Some moderators tend to be more lenient towards members who they like more(from what I have heard), and other moderators don't care who the members are, and what title they have. They merely take into account the ban history of that particular member, and act from there.

Totally. Being Mythic is like having a ban-proof-vest. I haven't felt the swift boot of justice since donning my blue robe. You should try it.

It's been a while, Kilroy. :) Returned to tell us that polygamy is actually awesome? :P I kid, I kid. Come back to TBC a while sometime.

Many months ago, I did something dumb and, I don't want to say any names but... a very old dude did not hessitated and banned me straight away. So no, they don't and should not take in consideration what title you have when it has to do with the site's rules.

@Helveck

Just an Average Joe...

Since you've already had your answer, there isn't much reason for me to reply but oh what the hell...

If someone is a new member and they break the rules, it might be considered more so of a good idea to be a little more strict with them, than say someone who is is Mythic member. Why? Well like Pezz said, basically if you're a more senior member, and you make one slip, oh well, here's a warning, but you ultimately know to not repeat chronically... Whereas, if someone is new, and they're educated early on, bans and warnings are more effective issued to them, to someone of more seniority and experience around here.

But then you have the whole issue of the double standard type thing... Which to be frank, I think is necessary in some cases, or well not necessary but acceptable I suppose... Depending on what rule is broken or how severe, it may be pointless to warn or ban a long standing member, while at the same time it may be necessary to do it to a new member because they simply do not know, or have a history already.

If I was a Mod, I will admit, I would be slightly more lenient with more senior members, but after one warning I would not hesitate to ban them, because they would then simply be abusing the sort of trust you have given them in expecting them not to make a habit of whatever rules it is they are breaking...
