Not too long ago, someone thought that shotguns on Wizard, and Heavy weapons on Blood Gulch made for good CTF matches. That person is clearly wrong.

I sent an email to Bungie's halo pc email, which was recieved (confirmed by the auto mailer), but subsequently ignored. Since you don't acknowledge it, I'm posting it here so you can't ignore it as easily.

Proposed Map Cycle, with changes where appropriate
Vehicles are identical for each team
No other changes are needed in my opinion to the game type except for those stated - everything else is fine as it is.

Blood Gulch
WEAPONS: Normal weapons settings, like other maps
VEHICLES: 1 LAAV Warthog, 1 LRV Warthog

Sidewinder
No Change

Timberland
No Change

Death Island
VEHICLES: 2 Shades, 1 Scorpion, 1 LAAV Warthog, 1 LRV Warthog

Ice Fields
No Change

Danger Canyon
No Change

Gephyrophobia
VEHICLES: Same as now, but remove the banshees

Maps to remove:

Infinity
WHY?: The map is not particually popular, and the banshees
make games frustrating

Wizard
WHY?: Too small for a fun CTF game. The weapons are also
not much fun, as they provide repetitive play

Reasons for Changes:

Blood Gulch
WHY?: Banshees annoy most players. The weapons are 'noobish',
requiring no skill, cause massive lag and low FPS, and the
game is very repetitive

Death Island
WHY?: Banshees are again annoying, allowing players to make
quick captures with little chance of stopping them. Reducing
the number of Scorpions, reduces 'tank camping' - where
players park in the ocean and assault a base with tank fire -
because not only is there only one tank, making it more valuable
but because it means less shells come in, making the stratagy less
effective, there is also not another tank to cover them.

Gephyrophobia
WHY?: Again, the banshees make the game annoying. Due to the lack
of effect that small arms have against them, they are very difficult
to shoot down. Also, it annoys players since they are considered by
many (including myself) to be 'cheap', and requiring little skill.

You do state a good point but no one high in the Bugie or Gearbox levels will pay attention.
But also if you dont like that server then just leave that server. Most servers in Halo are dedcated servers. I and a whole bunch of others are in the low 6 -12 people zones. If you havent noticed. And all those dedcated have no admin there unless someone reveals themself. So there ya go.

You can't remove Blood Gulch from a map cycle - it's BLOOD GULCH!

Actually, rockets on Blood Gulch CTF isn't that bad, although it's nowhere near as good as on Hang 'em High.

Of course, because going round blowing people up time after time is really rewarding and fun. The low FPS that all the rockets cause is also fun, I just love when I can see a rocket coming, and 10 seconds later it finally hits me.

I'm sorry, but you're in a minority, and if you enjoy such boring, repetitive, unskilled games, then surely there are other places instead of on quality, high-speed servers (of which there are few).

I never asked for it to be removed. I asked for the weapons and vehicles to be switched.

I would like to see the tanks and shees gone from BG. They take no skill and too many times there are people camping at bases spawn killing. That really just kills the game for me and many others. I really get mad when a team will score once then go on to just spawn kill the rest of the game. Whats the point? In my opinion, the most pleasurable way of winning is never getting into anything but the occasional ghost/wart.

The advise is good- but impossible to implement. I'd follow these rules and game types for those maps, but others.... can't be sure. Fair games are sometimes not fun for losers.

That's not newb crap. Just find a way to deal with it. For rockets, get to higher ground. For banshees, use a shotgun or assault rifle. (Power in numbers...)

I agree with Murazor...find a way to deal with it. Those advocating change tells me that they either can't or don't want to find a way to handle different situations. There are effective ways to deal with these situations...just figure them out. Besides, the only way you'll up your skill is to force yourself to adapt to challenging circumstances.

*hopes he doesn't hear the "My skills are fine, those are n00b tactics and are unfair!"*

Ok.......when you are at BG and keep spawning on top of the base, how exactly am I going to get a chance to A) get the shotgun B) actually use my AR? Spawn killing with the banshee is extremely popluar for some reason. What I havent seen is spawn killing with pistil, sniper, shotgun, assult rifle, ect.

Bull-blam!-. Besides, your post clearly shows that you have either A. Not played on Blood Gulch on Bungie's servers, or B. Not read my post thoroughly.

I can deal with the rockets, it's just that I'm sick of doing so/ It's no fun, which, forgive me if I'm wrong, is why we play video games in the first place. Also, I never said that n00b tactics were unfair (though running people over with the banshee comes close to that), but that they are cheap and require no skill, just like the blood gulch map.

Everyone who's ever played Rocket CTF on Hang 'em High has loved it. There's nothing boring or unskilled about it - you try scoring when you've a bunch of rocket-wielding bastards chasing you. Plus judging the lead you need is a real skill.
You should really try it before you criticise it (assuming you haven't tried Rocket CTF on Hang 'em High). A game with lots of good snipers, however, IS boring.

There's a good solution...and one that doesn't require Bungie/Gearbox to alter the "Game of the Year" to fit your standards.

I play on the fastest servers, which would be Bungie's. As I stated previously, such good servers are few and far between, which is why I brought this up in the first place; if there was somewhere else to go that offered equally good or better pings, I wouldn't bother with this.

And since you two don't really have an understanding of what's going on (the game isn't altered, and Gearbox isn't involved - if it were, I'd have taken this to their forums instead) I would keep quiet.

I've played rocket slayer - not too disimilar to CTF, on Hang 'em High, which wasn't too bad, although the point was somewhat irrelevant; we're talking about removing the rockets from Blood Gulch. Blood Gulch is unsuited for rocket CTF; large amount of explosions (and their various calculations) have to be done at once, and this actually slows the server down; when the game speeds up again, I'm not out of sync with everyone else - they're all where they were prior to the slowdown. If the game slows down that much, even on a dedicated server, it's not a good game.

Ok, so it might provide plenty of opportunity to practice leading with the rocket launcher (something I'm pretty good at anyway, having practiced a lot both in SP and MP), but all it does is make gameplay repetitive. There's something about blowing up someone for the 50th time in that game that doesn't make it fun anymore ...

Any comment on removing Wizard?

For one, I live variety, so keep everything and add more settings. Mwhahaha...

But quite seriouslt, they should change all the games of race to be cumultive scoring instead of minimum... no one EVER wins on Bungie's races, since someone doesn't score or joins late...

Just a simple suggestion......if you have the bandwidth to do it with, host your own dedicated server. Much easier than whining for everyone to conform to your rules. The Bungie servers are the most popular, so they SHOULD change everything around once in a while to cater to everyone. People host their own servers for a reason. And about the lag, if you host your own server, you won't get it, unless your machine sucks to begin with.

Of course, you seem to be quite the connoisseur for the "perfect" Halo match.

And yes, I have my own server, and I change it around to be fair to everyone.

I can't afford to set up a dedicated server, And I can't host my own game because gearbox didn't bother to configure Halo to run from behind a router.

if you've got the machine to do it, you can run the ded. server and the game on the same system.

you can run halo from behind a router. all you have to do is open the right ports on the router. in which case, it would be impossible for gearbox to be able to open the ports on someone's router anyway.

Can't, Halo only uses my network IP address instead of my true one. Forcing my true IP address means I can't play online. Great job gearbox.

I think the addition of the big guns and vehicles add for variety in the game and should never be removed... the more stuff to kill with the better. If all you can do is make whiny noises about being killed by a banshee instead of using your noggin to find a way to take the guy out, in my eyes your the nOOb. Nothing satisfies more than taking a spawn camper out... hell its the challenge that makes it fun right? Personally I don't want to be running around with a pistol the whole game. Time to get off your complaining ass and kill the guy thats got a rocket pointed at you. Oh... I guess that would be me...... RUN!

Again, there's no way gearbox could make that work. I you are playing behind a router, external dsl or cable modem, or anything like that, the IP address of the computer will NEVER be the same as the IP to the outside world.

All you have to do is point the PORT requests from the outside world (default for Halo server is 2302 and Halo client is 2303) to an IP on your LAN, that's it. Bungie, Gearbox, Microsoft, and anyone else you want to blame can't setup your LAN for you. You have to do it yourself. Or better yet, try searching on Google to find one of the HUNDREDS of Halo server guides. Or is it google's fault that they didn't make them easy to find? Crazy noob.

I don't have a problem with the tanks, sometimes with the banshees but I don't complain I just deal with it.
1)The tanks.
They dont last long against a sniper on top of base or anyware else because they can't see very far. Use plasma grenades and move around them so the slow gunturret can't get you.

2)Banshees.
Just shoot them down begin with the pistol then the AR up close and if possible attach a plasma grenade and blow them up. Remember to move strafe around them so they cant hit you. Then laugh at them when you one man defeated a banshee or tank just like that. It makes you feel alot better...
