Do you mean the VCR remote does not work on the VCR or you mean the TV remote does not work on the TV?
Do you have, like, a cable box or does the cable just hook directly to your VCR?
Can you watch TV through your VCR now (regardless of a remote)?

Years ago I had this setup and I had to use 2 remotes. I had to get the TV to ch 3 but 4 works if 3 does not. When I turned on the VCR the VCR remote would not work until I pressed the TV button (or Aux. button, I can't remember) on the TV remote. This released the TV remote and I could then use the VCR remote to change channels on the VCR. Then I could watch TV using the VCR as an auxillary unit but I could only play games and record said games if I also put the VCR on ch 3 or 4.

You should be able to use 1 remote but try the TV button or Aux. button as soon as you think the VCR should be working. Also, experiment with the 3 and the 4 channel combination thing.

Try to get to the point where you said it's almost a picture and sound. Then experiment with channels 3 and 4 and the TV button on the remote. The button may also say TV/Video or there may be a separate button for TV and Video or there may be a 'Mode' button. One of the combo's should work.

Is your VCR physically part of the TV or is it a separate box?

My VCR is seperate from the TV, yes. My TV only has buttons for channels and the volume is a knob which also turns it on/off. The VCR channel goes from 2-80. When its set on 2 Halo will crawl up the screen and wave while going up the sceen. I know you can run the xbox through the VCR, correct? There is a video in/out jack on the back of the VCR as well as audio in/out. I can hear the audio very faintly if i turn the volume way up. The yellow cable goes in the video in correct?

You should read my post above (3 posts above mine) again. I used to have your exact setup 10 years ago.

Yes, Xbox works through the VCR.

I think I'm SOL for this TV is doesn't work on the channels. My remote for the VCR is dead even after new batteries in. There is only one remote and that is the VCR remote. I think I've have to convince my dad to get a new VCR for the TV and go from there. My other questions above still stand.

From what shows on your screen, I wonder if your TV is PAL. All Xbox 360's (in the US, at least) use NTSC. When trying to use NTSC video on a PAL TV, this always happens to me. Does this happen with ALL inputs to your VCR, or just the Xbox?

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

Why does everyone hate Halo 2? Maybe its because its the worst game ever next to mario.

Lol! You seriously need an entertainment upgrade.

  • 04.06.2009 5:18 PM PDT

The only hope you have for this and your gaming future is to get new equipment.

1) Your TV possibly only supports PAL. Unless you plan to import EVERY ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM from Europe (where they mainly use PAL), give it to charity.

2) VCR's are the most obsolete electronic I keep in my house. The only time I ever use a VCR is to convert between component and coaxial, which is what you use it for, but your PAL issue ruins any chance of use for that purpose.

The bottom line: GET A NEW TV!
