i accidentally uninstalled halo, so i reinstalled it and when i go to multiplayer, of course, the auto-patcher says that i need the newest patch, so i clicked OK(i done this about 7 times with no problem). this time, before i download the patch, the thing says "no digital signature" and then says that it might be unsafe to download this, so it automatically doesn't download it. this never happened before. i tried turning off windows firewall, but that didnt work. please help me.

i did try reinstallin twice and it didn't help. and i don't have problems downloading the patch. i just have problems running the patch. the patch doesn't run because this message appears: Microsoft Trust Chktrust Utility - secutity warning
Windows found a problem with this file
Name:_halopat.tmp
Publisher: unknown publisher

This file was blocked because it does not have a valid digital signature that verifies
it's publisher

this never happened before, i succesfully installed this patch several times before. i tried downloading the patch from different websites, but all of them have the same message.

Sounds like a menu pops up when it says that, right? I am almost positive there is an option to 'allow' it to run. I got it the other day installing a Battlefield Vietnam patch. It shouldn't completely block it, there's a button on the menu to let it work, either 'ok' or 'allow' or something.

Get one off of gamershell. Never gotten a corrupt file from them.

Otherwise, post screenshots of the problem. I can help you a lot better that way.

Try saving it to a file when you download it instead of opening it. Because it's in the temp folder XP may think it's some sort of malicious executable.

if that doesn't work, try running the autoupdate.exe in your C:/..../halo directory, instead of running if off halo. also, make sure your firewall allows the autoupdate.exe to acess the internet.

just download the 1.06 manually and see if that works. the link to the download page is in my signature.

none of that worked. i tried it all now, but nothing worked. i don't think the problem is with the firewall because i did this several times before and the firewall never blocked anything. the problem is that the certificate for the file is expired or it doesn't have a digital signature. can anyone of you guys please uninstall your halo and try reinstalling it, then do the auto update. anyone that has xp please try that

i don't see how a manual download of the patch wouldn't work. Can't you just save the new patch over the old one? I think it's called Strings.dll.

the file name in the screenshot doesn't seem right. The file should be called Strings.dll. It should just save right over the existing Strings.dll in the Halo folder.

the patch, when saved in the program files halo folder, is called strings.dll. If you look at the file in the folder, it has a number similar to a patch no. such as 1.00.6.612.

other news: the 1.07 patch is coming out soon. Check the new sticky.
