Sometimes i just don't understand it. Bungie has had a flurry of activity. Why not do everything at once? Put this stupid stats update on the auto-update we had a few weeks ago(or months, i can't even remember). Bungie gives us some sweet stuff, but thats just buying time to do things like this. IT projects work in a tiered pattern. You want to take down the right pieces at the right time, change them in the way that fits best, and then flick the switch back on and troubleshoot it for problems. I can't even imagine the hell they'd have on hand if they did all this at once. Not to mention, they have to manage their resources wisely, and I believe they're doing a fine job of that. They did the autoupdate one week, allowing most of the xbox live community 1 week to download it, and then the maps the next week. This kept the strain on their resources fairly low, since the autoupdate is small compared to the maps. As a result, the few people that still haven't updated their Halo 2 installation won't be putting much of a mark on the servers. If they had done it the other way around, it'd be a much different story.
I personally think they're just doing some defragging and other things to their servers right now, while the stats don't really matter. I can't really think of a better time than 3 days before stats get reset.
