Beleive it or not, i've seen things that look like cheating but aren't. I have yet to see a cheater, other than the one person who seems to be able to shoot me through trees and rocks... but the die hard thing, i have had cases where i have no clue how i lived. I'll be honest, i'm not a big fan of the assult rifle. Perhaps if we could make it double the pistol's speed and make only 2 bullets needed to kill the enemy, now that, is an assult rifle. This thing they have... i'm sorry... this is an automatic peice of crap, no offence to bungie. The only good i've seen was on the so called modded maps where it takes 1 bullet of anything to kill. That's when the automatic flashlight of halo actually is good. If the plasma rifle would shoot just a weeeeeeeeeee bit straighter, then we could talk about these automatics, but it dosn't take an einstein to figure out that all some one needs is a semi good aim and the rocket rules all. I havn't seen a needler kill or a plasma pistol kill in ages. Though i did see some one get bashed to death with a plasma rifle. I suck with a ghost and only people who are ignoring shades get killed by them. And i think we all know that the shadow would be a nice little veichle addon to the multiplayer, right? This is just a few ideas for those working on CE maps. Having correct weapons would greatly change how the stats project works.

Also, if i ever get my programs to get internet access, i might be able to set up an EXE beta program to work with your project. Maybe get closer and closer to one that would look good and has a purpose. And inspire, if you're looking to make a name for yourself, find a way that we could download custom maps through CE like you can do with Call of Duty and a few other games. Saves all that trouble trying to find a site wit hthe map and finding the map on that after going through a bunch of registration mumbo jumbo just to play on a CE server for 5 minutes.

Punkbuster? i have heard CoD has issues with that... Explains alot... I noticed though that, "star trek: star fleet command III" may be old but you'd tend to think it'd have hackers. But no, no problem with hackers at all. And... it's pretty much open source. Dosn't take anyone long to figure out how to edit that, but what's really sad is some clan scraped a model because it was no good, sadder yet, it was a model that came with the game. Now that's sad...

Just to add to my comment...

The type of cheating that primarly occurs is weapons mods ie. making the pistol bullets super straight and super fast. Any good player knows the pistol does not fire perfectly straight and center every shot. Thus the three shot kill is hard to do even for the skilled. In addition 1 shot kills with the pistol just dont happen with a full sheild yet Ive seen it done.

Futher more the other hak thats been seen is "the glass sheild" this is the most hated. I encountered a guy using this ounce...here was the situation, Im on bloodgulch comin over the big hill, this guy comes out the portal immediatley I stick him with a plasma and empty my pistol into him...doesnt die, I dodge his fire while reloading and empty my pistol into him again...doesnt die (mind you the noise made when you make a hit was heard every shot). Keep in mind a plasma stick and a few shots will end anyone. Now I'm backpedaling trying to get my sheild to recharge. My team mate comes up throws gernades and uloads on him gets killed then I return with no sheild and get owned. At the end of the game the stats showed he had not died ounce the whole game. Every encounter was the same case. Cheap crap like this happens all the time.

I do realize when the server has a modded map, and one player is using hax, just so that I dont look foolish here.

Maybe you can intergrate a cheater detection into your stats program so that stats would be pure. Ontop of that with it being server side...then there would be cheat free servers that could claim they are (typicaly) cheat free. That would be amazing. Would probally get some players back into Halo PC

I'll try to find out more on known cheats, its kinda hard to find actual info on cheats other than having it happen to yourself. Most cheaters always use odd characters in their name, I've heard it makes it a bit harder to boot them from a server. Just to help ya know possible hackers ahead of time.

that so called never dies thing. I think ti's part of 1.7's errors i guess. It happend to me, i was the invincable guy, i wasn't invinsable, just damn lucky. After about a bunch of people fired eventually some one got me. I have done a few tests. The pistol isn't perfect, but neither is the sniper rifle. I did a few tests on modded maps, but the accuresy of the weapons were untouched. i killed more people with the pistole than the sniper rifle. Problem was, the ammo was invinate. That was also fun cause the missle launcher also had infinate ammo. it was really glitchy. Only the first 2 missles showed. All the others were invisable, making it all the more deadly. it was the BBT mods. I think the accuresy is hard modeled into "the core" as Taldren would say. (taldren uses that for sfc3 and modding that game)

Basically, anything in the core couldn't be modded w/o a huge download. Particulalry, replacing a DLL or exe file.

Actually, i'm looking at the blood gulch weapons and i see "ball" and "gravity rifle". What the hell are those? I'm guessing the ball might be the Oddball skull cause it does have the flag as a weapon. Anyway... bungie'd get ticked if they saw how i found that out. I have tools in halo for messing with the game and stuff but i don't "hack". Cheating isn't actually "hacking" in an online perspective. Hacking would be making the tool and what the tool does. The player is just plain cheating.

The gravity rifle is one of the weapons that didn't make it into the final release.... I think.

Not to steer the thread back on topic, but I've discovered a few things about Perl and I am currently looking into using PHP since the documentation on PHP is far superior to what I can find on Perl. I'd love to do an exe, but I'll probably write the program in PHP, so I'll be using a CLI and probably a windows control tab to run the program every so often - Maybe every 10 or 15 minutes. I could then link the PHP script to a MySQL Database and - Oh F-ing A!

Quasi-Real-Time Stats running serverside. How sweet it is....

Although, somebody finally responded to a post I made on the Java Boards, so if all else fails....

The site has been updated. I may take an indefinite break from the Maw soon. If that happens, you can find me and any updates or discussion about the stats project on http://www.halomaps.co.uk in the forums there.

Have you thought to use the stats in the Game Lobby somehow? Thats how CSPORTS does it. If you can get it working so it records kills and points/time, though, I think your program will be much better.

You mean have the stats show up in the server info in the Gamespy lobby? Doesn't it already show that? The program will record kills/ points/ time, etc... It will all be uploaded to a central MySQL database and the stats will be online - like H2 - just not as detailed...

Well... Depending on what you use it for, like posting stats or just checking them during games, the way you can access and use it will vary...

What I meant was that you might be able to use the data sent to the gamespy lobby to get some of your stats. Although if you are getting the info from the carnage report it would be more of a hassle.

Well, i see how that could get annoying, but one thing you could do which you'll have to check out yourself since i don't have a halo capable comp right now is allow console on your computer and type in the command box:sv_players. All i remember about it is that it does allow you to see their tk's and if i can remember... how long their respawn time penalty is.

Good idea, chewy - I don't know how I'd do it, but that's nopt a bad idea - the way it's set up now, though, I'd be able to count TK's and suicides, but gamespy only shows the score.

If some one could give me the source code to a basic web browser (that's compatable with all HTTP servers like IE and Mozilla are unlike more free source codes for browsers) in C++ i might be able to work with it. Also it'd be nice to have some comment tags to go with the source code so i know what each function does and what's happening in the program. I found some non fully compatable http clients that just have absolutely no comment tags where you need them. I have no idea where the URL imput is. (i wanted to make it so it automatically goes to a particular URL at startup w/o using anything like home page.)

Here's a way to tell if it's what i'm looking for. If it has alot of "/* text here */" or "// Text here", has URL imput, is in C++, and can go to both http://kohlrak.shorturl.com and www.buddyprofile.com. Usually the basic web browsers that aren't fully compatable work with 1 but not the other. If it works with both it's most likely fully compatable. (note: i'll still take it if it displays kohlrak.shorturl.com differently than your commonly used web browser does. That would only mean that it can't process certain tags that common browsers can. I can fix that. I just want one that'll download web page files from both domain names and has comment tags and URL imput line. (AKA address bar.))

Many things outside this project, but for this project i'll remove the address bar and have it auto set to a specified URL when you're done. On startup, it'll go to the PHP page. Later on we can develop it to come with images and such ahead of time and you could run this off of a simple text file or database that will act like a DLL file. Basically, partially open source, but the source is on your site and we can't edit the URL. therefor, it can't be exploited and there is your stats project on their screen.

Yes, I planned to use a MySQL database to keep all the stats and use PHP to serve the web pages based on the stats. That would al run server-side so that nobody could fool with it. Kohlrak - you seem like you've been pretty interested in the project. I'm in the process of some radical changes - and I'm going to be moving the website soon. PM me your contact info and maybe you and I can chat more about the project outside the boards...
