It's not that unattainable actually. First measure the length of ethernet cable you need from the modem to your Xbox, be sure to give a little slack. Next, go to your local electronic store and tell them you need a ethernet cable at least this many feet long. Maybe you'll be lucky and they'll have one in stock. If not, then they can have one custom made and sent to the store for you to pick up more then likely. As for protecting the cable, you can go to your local hardware store and buy wire covers in different colors and styles that can run the length of your walls.

They do. Part of my job for the Air Force is networking. They'll make them hundreds of feet long if necessary.

And unless you have 2 NIC cards on your computer, the XBOX is not plugging into that. It is going to plug into your modem (and unhook your computer) or a router (so you can use both computer and router).

OR

Get a Wireless Gaming Adapter. If it's a 360, there's ones made specifically for it. Or, if it is a regular XBOX, you can get one made by a networking company such as Linksys. Price will range between $80-$100 typically. If you do this wireless adapter, you will also need a wireless router.

And of course, you need an XBOX live subscription which is $49.95 a year.

Ah, yes. I forgot Xbox makes those. That may be a cheaper option depending on what hardware you already have.
