Hey all.
My friend (whos name will remain secret for now) was recently banned by accident (not saying who by either), and appealed for his ban to be lifted, which it was.
However, because of the ban, he lost his Heroic status. To some, it seems like nothing, but you have to admit it would be annoying to lose a title you worked for. Anyway, I was wondering if this could be implemented:
When a user is mistakenly banned or appeals for a very valid and fair reason, then should their trust rating be set back to just before the ban?
When unbanning someone, wouldn't it be a good idea to have an option (for moderators only, duh) to revert their trust rating to before the banning? It would mean that, for example, if a user posted in a topic that was being heavily flamed, but their post was fully relevent, but they were banned and lost X title by mistake, then they could get that title back easily and fairly (which was basically what happened in my friend's case).
Obviously this would only be used for accidental bans, and for those which are appealed for a not-so-serious offense.
Thoughts?

Despite their joking around in this thread, every Forum Ninja I know is very careful about issuing accidental bans for precisely the reason that Dropship Dude posted in his OP, as well as the reason I posted above (the member title "prefixes"). But accidental warnings and bans do happen anyway, especially in very fast-moving forums and threads. We try to avoid them, and we correct them as quickly as possible when they do happen. But it is unfortunate that, currently, even an accidental ban still counts against a user's trust rating.
I would like to see this idea implemented at some point, but accidental bans are such a rare occurrence that I would not think that it is a "high-priority" item for the web team.
