I have always played Halo with the Southpaw control scheme. I also play Boxer. Does anyone else play Southpaw or Boxer?
I learned to play fps's on consoles with the N64 and most of the games had you aiming with the left thumbstick and moving with the your right thumb. I kept playing that way after Halo and the Xbox came out in November of 2001, by switching Halo's control scheme from Default to Southpaw. I have tried switching and playing default by aiming with the right stick and moving with the left but it's awkard and just doesn't work for me. I also find that your active trigger finger can interfere with your right thumb, whereas aiming with my left thumb is more steady. A few fps's to come out on the Xbox have not allowed the ability to swap aiming/moving with the thumbsticks. Those games I can not play, at least play with ease. I hope Halo 2 still allows the Southpaw setup. It will also be interesting to see if they still allow Boxer, where melee is assigned to the left trigger, since you can now dual wield. Most friends I know also play Boxer, which comes in handy on an enclosed level like Chill Out with shotguns only. If anyone at Bungie reads this please let me know if these options will still be available.
I wish every game developer allowed full customization like Free Radical did with TimeSplitters 2, where you could map any function to any button, stick or trigger on the controller. It seems like such an easy thing for a game developer to do, yet so few allow such freedom. I wish Bungie would do this - how about you guys?
