"The Bloodied Gulch"

Sergeant Felix Grade 2 was pinned. This was fifth attack by the Covenant this week. His cover was melting beside him, and he felt his teammates anxious breath beside him. He turned to Private Samson.
"Are the charges ready?" Felix asked.
"Hooked Up and Ready, Sir" Samson replied.
A pelican flew overhead and landed about 100 yards behind their position. "C'mon, that's our ride out of here!" Felix said. They got up and quickly sprinted toward the pelican, whose hatch was slowly lowering. "Squad, move out!" someone shouted. Felix heard the familiar explosions of grenades going off beside him. "Brutes!" screamed Samson. Felix heard the shouts of the brute commander's to the grunts and jackals. "Hurry up!" The screams of marine shot by one of the Jackal's plasma weapons rang through the air. Felix finally reached the pelican. A few moments later, Samson joined him, kneeling against the pelican, firing at the oncoming brutes.
Private Grade 2 Leon was running as fast he could toward that pelican. He knew that if he reached it, everything would be alright. He could smell the food at home base, greeting him at the narrow escape from death. He would enjoy his meal with his buddy, Frankie, who was running behind him. He was almost there. Just a little bit way to go. The words of his mother rang in his head, Stay safe, okay? Almost there. He remembered his first day in the army, and how he almost quit it was so hard. But when his colony fell to the covenant, he knew what he was doing was right. Back on Earth, where his parents resided, he knew he was a hero. He was a defender of humanity. A couple more feet to go. All these memories washed away when he saw the familiar green of the pelican in front of him. Slowly, he uttered,
"We Made it Frankie, We are here!" He did not, however hear a reply. "Frankie?" Leon turned around. He did not see anyone. "FRANKIE!" Leon called out in the distance. "Get in the bird, son." Felix said. "No.no I have to find Frankie." Leon ran back out in the battlefield. He saw a green silhouette in the distance. He ran as fast as he feet could take him. He remembered now. As much as he liked to think, his parents did not make it off the colony. They were there when it was attacked. Now they are not. He could not lose Frankie. Not now. They shadow of death loomed about. He finally reached Frankie, who lit up with brief happiness upon seeing his lifelong friend, quickly changed to despair.
"What are you doing here?" asked Frankie. "I came to save you!" cried Leon. "It is too late for me..." Frankie replied, with a quick glance to his dismembered leg. "NO! No, I won't leave you here. I can't. I won't. I just can't!" "No, I will not let you get rid your life for mine!" A shout of Brutes could be heard in the distance. "Run! NOW" "I can't leave you brother!"
Felix sat at the bay of hatch. "They are not coming back, sir," said Samson. Felix looked down. "I know Samson." An awkward silence hung in the air. "Radio for lift off." Felix felt the pelican rise up off the ground, and begin sailing through the air.
The brutes hovered over Leon. Frankie had died when the brutes shot their first grenade. Now the shattered remains of his body was in their grasp. The brute grabbed him and held him in the air and said,
"Human scum. Scourge of the Prophets. You deserve no mercy, for in the end, only the Covenant shall stand." With a loud roar, the Brute drove the spike of his weapon into Leon, and he fell to the ground.
"Sir, its time to light the fireworks." "Do it," Felix replied. Nuclear Havok mines went off around the area, and the position was destroyed.
Felix laid on the cold grass, next to his brother. The Brute hovered over him still, chanting orders. Suddenly, a loud bang was heard, and Felix felt a wave of energy flush over him. And with a small smirk, he said, "I am coming home mom."

Chapter 2 :Trinity Base

The sun was setting on the horizon. Over the mountain tops a neon green signal lit up the sky, in a brilliant shade of blue and pink surrounding it. A similar glow radiated from a large metal structure, signaling the ok signal. All around the base green lights showered the sky for a few brief moments. The succession continued, until a red light exploded into the air, seemingly disrupting the peace. Then, the alarm rang.
The sun had finally set, and all around the guard towers soldiers ran to their posts. Shouts screamed from every quarter of the base. The gates were rushed to be closed. Loud alarms tormented the air as the base went on lockdown. A lone recruit, named Mahdi, came up to Felix rubbing his eyes. "What is going on?" asked Mahdi. Felix turned to the recruit, and studied him with judgmental eyes. After few seconds had past, Felix finally replied, "8 patrols were sent out today. Only 7 came back." Mahdi was caught by surprise. This planet was in the middle of nowhere. How could an attack come here? It was impossible! It was improbable! Or was it. Felix continued after a long, drawn out sigh. "It hasn't been the same here since we were stranded" Stranded. The
words echoed through Mahdi's mind, triggering a flash of memories.
7 Hours after the events of chapter 1

The pelican screamed through the air as it headed for the base. Covenant forces were seen all over the ground; stranded soldiers helpless in avoiding their doom. Felix screamed to Samson, "Get this pelican to the base, NOW!" A loud screeching noise was heard overhead. Samson, desperately trying to allow himself to be heard over it, yelled, "WHAT IS GOING ON?" Felix looked upon the soldiers sitting in the pelican. They did not deserve to die. They deserved more. He turned to Samson with renewed vigor. "COME ON!" he shouted, "If the covenant want a fight, lets give it to th-" His sentence was cut short when a plasma wave from a covenant scarab rang through the air, ripping into the fuel tanks of the pelican. Samson uttered a cry and said, "We can't hold her." Felix replied, "Do it! There are only a few more miles to the base!" Felix could see the large towers echoing gunfire in the horizon. The scream from the dying pelican grew louder. The hatch door bursted open. The loud scream of Marine rang as he fell to his doom. The pressure surmounting the situation intensified. Samson let out a long cry. Felix turned to the windshield and everything went black.
Everything hurt. Felix couldn't move. He summoned all his strength just to open his eyes. The sky was littered with black smoke and parts of burning metal. What had just happened? It was as although he had just awoken from a cruel dream. He turned his head away from the sky and to his right. He wished he hadn't. Corpses of those who had been on the pelican lay scattered around the ground. His first thought turned to Samson. Suddenly Felix found the strength to slowly get up. His vision narrowed as blood pooled over his eyes. He was bleeding. It didn't matter. He had to find Samson. As he stood up, he collapsed once more under the immense amount of pain. Where was he? He turned and found the remains of what once was the cockpit. He saw a lone body where the windshield was. Samson? Felix slowly walked toward the area. He immediately recognized the face to be Samson. Was he alive? He kneeled over next to the body of his friend. Was he okay? In a low tone filled with pain and regret, he called out Samson's name. Samson was unresponsive. "You are going to be okay buddy." Felix hoisted Samson over his shoulders, and did a quick look for the camp. He saw one of the gun towers. Felix began his long arduous walk toward camp.
When he reached the gates, he immediately strolled to the medical bay. He caught the attention of the medic there and pointed to Samson. The medic gave Felix a confused look, and quickly uttered, "I am sorry to tell you, but your friend is dead. Moreover, where did you say you crashed?" Felix uttered the coordinates in a low reply. "I am truly amazed. From the looks of it, almost all your ribs are broken, your leg is shattered, and you still managed to walk 8 miles?" Upon hearing this, Felix collapsed unto the floor.
The Interceptor showered the sky with missiles as it fired on the Covenant onslaught. It was the only hope for escape from this desolate planet. Felix arose from his medical bed. Samson was dead. The covenant would pay for that. He stepped outside into the middle of camp. It was midnight. And yet everyone was still ready.

2 Weeks Later

The battle had been continuing for some time now. Felix met a different friend, named Kingspore, who was assisting him in some battles after his recovery. Essentially, he was his wingman. The covenant forces attacking Trinity Base had intensified after the past 2 weeks. They were relentless in their efforts to try and eradicate all human presence from this planet. Felix, in his position providing covering fire, was doing fairly well to stop the Covenant from advancing. Kingspore was proving covering fire alongside Felix. The two were working well together, exchanging ammo when needed. Suddenly, a loud screeching roar was heard in the distance.
Felix looked up, only to be blinded for a few seconds. What he had seen was a huge fireball coming down at them. What he wished he hadn't seen was the outline of a Covenant Scarab. The wandering eye of the main cannon found the base almost instantaneously after landing. A cool wind swept dust across the battlefield. For a few moments, everything stood still as the beam gathered energy. Then, before Felix could even blink, the beam of light flashed coming hurtling at them at immense speeds.
Felix picked himself from the ground. He looked around, and saw Kingspore with his hands over his ears. The plasma had melted a huge portion of wall protecting the base, and set off a few explosions that was near Kingspore. Felix could not console his partner into calming down. This was most likely due to the fact that Kingspore was deaf, and would likely continue to be so for the next several hours. Felix decided it was time to switch tactics. He signaled his partner that they were moving out. Kingspore reluctantly agreed, picking up his assault rifle and followed Felix to their next destination. They traveled back inside the base, into the hanger, where they found a warthog sitting, waiting for use. Since Kingspore was deaf, he was in no position to gun or drive. Therefore, he took the passenger seat. A man waiting in the shadows walked up to the duo. He told them his nickname was Jake. Not wanting to waste more time asking questions, Felix took the gunner position and Jake started up the Warthog. After allowing the engine to start, Jake asked, "Where are we going?" Felix responded, "We got ourselves a bug to squash."
Jake raced the warthog out of the base leaving a trail of smoke behind them. The Interceptor was clearly visible in the sky, radiating its glow of escape and promise. Getting his mind back on track, Felix noticed that Kingspore had picked up a rocket launcher before they had left. Good, they might need that later. As they entered the main road, Felix noticed a large convoy heading toward the scarab's position. Felix quickly uttered into his com, "Join up with that convoy. We're not going solo yet." Jake complied, and soon their warthog was surrounded with two tanks and a Hornet following closely overhead. The convoy leader shouted into his general COM that the Covenant Scarab was only a few minutes away. Felix quietly whispered to Jake to get ready to move on his signal. A soothing quiet fell over the convoy. They knew it was coming. They felt it in their gut. All of a sudden the convoy lead shouted, "BANSHEES! In all directions!" Felix turned his turret around and saw that this was no exaggeration.
The Banshees were fast. Their warthog, with jagged of pieces of metal sticking out, had made it out of the ambush. Their fellow convoy members were not so lucky. The Hornet went down first, crashing into one the tanks destroying both immediately. The other tank was covered in plasma bombs before the turret even turned. There was never even a chance. The warthog was reaching its top speed with only a few moments away from the scarab. Suddenly, mountains of dust were kicked up in front of the warthog. ****, Choppers! There wasn't Time to take care of these! Kingspore had already noticed, and started to take aim with his rocket launcher. Felix lined up the sights, and opened fire.
The choppers were zig zaging behind the warthog to prevent a clear line of fire being laid down upon them. Felix wasn't strong enough to move the heavy warthog turret to follow them. Without notice, a cloud of dust and smoke appeared in Felix's eyes. He turned, to find Kingspore's rocket smoking. He turned again to find the two choppers burning in a heaping pile of molten metal. Felix was relieved, only to find that the Covenant scarab was becoming enormous as the distance between them was steadily decreasing.
Jakes screamed over the warthogs loud engine, "How are we planning to take this monster down?" Felix scouted the area. "Head for the hill next to that overpass. Go full throttle!" Realizing Felix's plan, Jake couldn't help but crack a smile. Kingspore, whose hearing had just returned, wished it hadn't. The eye of the scarab noticed the approaching warthog, and began charging its beam. The warthog took off the ramp. The beam fired. Felix couldn't help but let out a shout of terrified angst. The Beam melted the bottom half of the warthog just from the proximity of the heat. Fortunately, it missed. Barely. Without giving another thought to the situation, Felix shouted, "JUMP!" as the warthog hurdled into the hull of the scarab's mass.
Jake turned his head. He noticed unfamiliar purple paint. The scrab! Jake quickly scrambled to his feet. He noticed a pile of covenant bodies near him. Where was Felix and Kingspore? He walked into a corridor, hoping to find his companions. What he found was a room with a Covenant Brute inside, wielding a grenade launcher, with a razor sharp blade on the end. Jake stood stunned. His pistol! Jake whipped the pistol from its holster on his leg, and fired two shots at the Brute. The Brute seemed to just chuckle. Jake dropped his pistol. What was he to do? The brute then collapsed in front of Jake. What just happened?
Felix couldn't help but crack a smile as his battle rifle was smoking. He motioned Jake to follow him as Kingspore held his Rocket high in cover. They moved to the back of the scarab toward what appeared to be a power source. Felix took a long look. Finally Kingspore suggested, "I think we should destroy it." Kingspore tossed a plasma grenade that stuck to the core. "Its time to go!" Kingspore shouted. The trio ran to edge of the scarab. The scarab began to buckle as explosions were occurring all over it. The trio jumped from the edge unto the ground, and hit it with a loud thump. The resulting explosion caused such a force that they were pushed several feet back.
Kingspore opened his eyes. They did it! They blew up the Scarab. He looked up to the skies and saw the Interceptor. Finally, they could leave this place! Just then, a flash of white light showered the sky in radiance so bright, it left one blinded for a few moments. The Interceptor was in pieces. No.They were stranded here! Kingspore could not believe what he was seeing. There was no way out. No escape from hell.
PRESENT TIME
Mahdi was recalled out his flashback by the yelling of Sergeant Felix. Felix was shouting, "All hands, man your battlestations. Get those warthogs up and running. I want a pelican on patrol now! Keep my eyes open. We will have no sneak attacks today." Mahdi was wondering what was all the fuss about. Then it hit him. There had no been Covenant presence on this planet for months. That means that if the recon patrol didn't come back, there must be Covenant here. Mahdi was quickly called aboard one of the Pelican patrols, so he grabbed his battle rifle and complied.
The Warthogs wheels raced across the ground, crunching rocks under the smooth rubber of the tires. The vehicle quickly swerved in an effort to throw off the pursuers. Seth and "Hippo" shot the ghosts that were following them. These elites would not let up! One of the fuel tanks exploded on the ghosts, sending it careening into the other. Double Kill! Ismo gave a quick congratulations, and then followed with, "We are not out of the woods yet, we still need to." His sentence was cut off as the warthog lost control when it was hit by a plasma blast from a wraith.
Seth woke up to mind-shattering pain. There was not a bone in his body that did not ache. It hurt to even think! He crawled behind the warthog, and found Ismo and Hippo already waiting there. The wheel was spinning violently behind them. Seth painfully uttered, "We have to keep moving. They will find us if we stay here." Ismo shook his head in disagreement. "We have to wait. Base has already probably sent out" "You really think we are going to be rescued? If we want to get out of here, we need to find our own way out. This isn't some fairy tale, Ismo. This is real." A silence beset the group. "I am not going to sit here any longer. If you guys want to come or not, fine." Seth grabbed his assault rifle, slung it around his back, and moved further into the forest.
The pelicans ravaged the skies as it ripped it apart through its immense speeds. Mahdi sat on a bench, contemplating their next move. He was interrupted when the pilot yelled, for everyone to look. A burning warthog could be seen, and the smoke was leaving a trail. The pilot signaled they were going to land. Mahdi waited for the hatch doors to open. The cool night air rushed into the Pelican. Sounds from the lush forest were heard all around. A screeching noise was heard. Mahdi stepped outside. A battalion of Banshees were heading toward the site. And they had seen them.
