The hunters have less armor then elites and they were taken over, and you could see infectious flood on the backs of Hunters. And don't forget, there wasn't grunt or Jackal flood either.

How do you know all this? You can't tell which flood from which except by there gun which you don't know if they picked up one.

Yes you can actually tell one flood type from another, you can obviously tell the marines and if you have read the book, you know that that thing hanging off the back of the top of the other kind of flood that you can shoot off is actually an elites head.

Grunts and Jackals were possessed into Carrier Types, so yes Grunts and Jackals were both possessed.

The best explanation why the Flood never possessed the Hunters are, either they did possess Hunters, but they look the same as Elites possessed or they were too scared to possess one of them beasts.

Or **FS Spoilers** they have some weird nerve condition like Sergeant Johnson, making it impossible for the Flood to take them over.

Negative, Sgt.Johnson got that nerve condition from having too many Plasma Grenades stuck to him, and i don't think Hunters would get tagged by there own Covenant and when we encounter a Hunter and tag em with Plasma Grenades we kill em in the end.

Well hunters are like big bags of jelly with armour so it wouldn't be possible to posses them as they are too useless.

Purely Conjecture but the Hunters are seemingly some form of gelatinous life form. Perhaps they have a neurological system that is incompatable with the Flood's vector of infection. Maybe it would take more time as the flood would have to adapt themselves to the task of transforming a Hunter.

There also exists the possibility that the Master Chief just, plain simply, didn't encounter a Flood transformed Hunter though they did exist.

It could be a characteristic of their species. Johnson didn't have any plasma grenades stuck to him, if he did, he would be dead...again. FS says he used an entire "crate" covie grenades that he found, which basically made his nerves fire off randomly.

Well on the level were you have to rescue Keyes from the flood their were plenty of hunters and infectious forms so scratch off not encountering one.

in First Strike he says, "I guess they didn't like my taste"

Cortana says its because he has a syndrome because 90 some % of his body was covered by plasma

In response to Mjolnir 22's statement: "Well on the level were you have to rescue Keyes from the flood their were plenty of hunters and infectious forms so scratch off not encountering one."

That is why I threw my statement it out afterwards. We don't know how long incubation period is for a flood transformation, nor do we know how intact the host body must be in order to be assimulated nor do we know why they were "gathering the bodies in the corners" as Cortana stated.

Actually its pretty obvious that they are gathering the bodies for food.

I don't take anything as "obvious". I'm too much of a facts and physics man. Heck, to me it seems "obviously" to be some form of nesting instead of food gathering. Hence I try and be clear that I'm playing out conjecture and not facts.

Why in the hell would they nest in bodies when they have been locked up by the Covenant for studying? they are gathering those bodies because they are hungry and need to eat to survive.

They might of been too strong for the flood to mutate, (just a guess)

In response to Mast3r Chief:

I don't understand what you mean when you say "when they have been locked up by the Covenant for studying?" The Covenant accidentally unleashed them from their captivity aboard the Halo installation.

Secondly, how do you know that they need to eat to survive? There are many lifeforms that do not. They might just burn their own biological systems out in a desperate attempt to infect other lifeforms.

According to Cortana they "feed" on other sentient life forms which is further elaborated upon by 343 Guilty Spark who states that any creature with a certain level of intelligence is a possible host. This does support, though does not prove my theory.

If they did "eat", then "destroying their food" as Cortana put it, all sentient life in the galaxy would not stop them. Mere organic sustenance could be derived from any form of fauna or flora.
