Even though its a simple enough trailer it still beatrs any trailer I have seen for Halo 2 and 3.....I dunno...just seems more "epic"
Definitely not. H3's trailers definitely are at the top.
In terms of graphical jiggery-pokery yeah they are nice...the Starry Night trailer was good but I thought the whole diorama adverts were a little OTT. Made it seem a tad corny. They were meant to describe the desperation and scope of the fighting. None of which the game even came close to.
Halo CE's adverts bring out the true feel of the game they are representing, in game footage a good deal of simple but effective storyboarding and a good thumping soundtrack...all of that leaps out of the screen and says "PLAY ME" Agreed.
H3's adverts were good technically but offered very little of what the game was about or what was in it, the diorama situation confused a lot of people when it showed the MC being captured by a Brute and the subsequent hype with the "Arms Race" and "Landfall" trailers (although superb) still showed nothing (or very little) of in game footage. These were meant to lead up to a massive fight. In addition, the company that made the diorama had no knowledge of the actual game's plot.
Ok, you can argue that H3 had a lot of coverage in the magazines and on the net, but adverts shown on TV should at least have a large section dedicated to real time in game footage, not cop out with "representive of in game footage" in small text at the bottom like a lot of newer released games.I have to agree. I want to see part of what I'm getting at the end result. A good example is Mass Effect. The commercials were stunning. And the game was almost as good looking.
I just think that the advertising for H3 was just not simple enough and perhaps "Arms Race" and "Landfall" should have been slightly adjusted and pushed more towards the upcoming ODST release as it showed ODST's in heavy action..Again, this was all meant to lead up the release, increasing in adrenaline each episode.
Whereas in comparison the Halo CE trailer was simple and effective and mirrored the game itself, the H3 advert campaign was like a pizza wth too many toppings on it...I disagree. The CE trailer in the OP is simple ad effective, giving a great look at the end result. The Halo 3 trailers were all meant to lead up the the game, making people want it more. It's just a different(more enticing) strategy.
