In response to the fact that the Spartans can use the enemy weapons and vehicles well, that I think comes from one of several things, but first a side note.
The Spartans (as you know) are just humans with nano augmentations, like micofibril muscle enhancements, bone hardening enhancements, nervous system upgrades and such so really the would be more akin to true cyborgs. As such they are capable of living longer in a fight and thus will gain more chances to get experience using the Covenant weapons. Marines and Navy personnel generally die before they get the chance to pass on and develop technique and ability to use much of the equipment.
Also, there is no guarantee that the equipment is "Forerunner". I think I remember The Fall of Reach saying something about the fact that the Covenant take technologies and use them to thier own means. So the plasma rifle might not have started out as the plasma rifle. It could have been a plasma engine that was adapted and changed to be a weapon. Heck, the Humans do the same thing. They took the shields that they found on Covenant, and integrated them into the Mjolnir armor, and then improved on it.
There is also a good chance that, while not Human, the Forerunner race was similar in that they preferred the same general planet types (M class for those Star Trek fans). Thus Halo was built with an oxygen atmosphere. Reach was undoubtedly a Forerunner colony or controlled world.
Forerunner might be precursors of Humans, but I would like to think otherwise. And in so far as the Covenant "worship" the Forerunner, religion has been used for centuries as a justification for war so that those in power can expand thier domain.
I would certinaly like to hear what you have to say about 343 Guilty Sparks "proving" remarks.
